Medicine Hat School District No. 76 How do our programs meet the developmental needs of all children? • Curriculum is integrated in all areas through projects, learning centres and purposeful play. • Children have the opportunity to participate in activities and develop projects that build on and extend their current interests. • Children have the opportunity to work cooperatively with other children in small groups and whole class activities. • Services are provided for children with learning differences in inclusive educational settings. • Programming is provided for students who are learning English as a Second Language. Kindergarten Programs OPPORTUNITIES FOR PRESCHOOL CHILDREN... Medicine Hat School District No. 76 has a commitment to providing a variety of choices for parents and children. These programs provide invaluable oppportunities for early intervention under the direction of Alberta Education and Medicine Hat School District No. 76 Early Childhood teachers. Early Learning Programs are offered at a number of elementary schools for children, 2.5 to five years of age, with assessed developmental and communication delays. These programs also provide an opportunity for registered community children 3-5 years of age and children with exceptional needs to play and learn together in an educational play-based setting. Kindergarten will be available at various school sites dependent upon sufficient enrollments as half-day or full-day alternating programs. Each child will be assessed a fee for materials, nutrition and transportation (fieldtrips). Children are actively engaged in early literacy and numeracy activities and develop strong basic skills in all areas. Our kindergarten program offers a Reggio-inspired, play-based learning environment. Children are encouraged to explore their world through creative learning opportunities. Depending on Kindergarten registration numbers, morning or afternoon programming will be offered. An optional daily nutritious snack and lunch are available free of charge. Ross Glen School 48 Ross Glen Rd. S.E. An Early Learning Program is offered for kindergarten, community children and children with assessed developmental delays ages 21/2-6. George Davison offers alternating full-day Kindergarten Programs and 1/2 day programs depending on interest. Children are introduced to Phonographix, a very successful reading program that is used throughout the school. Supervised lunch is provided free of charge. Before school care is available at 7:00am and after school care is available until 5:45 p.m. each school day. Dragons and Butterflies, a private daycare operator, located on the school grounds and is one option for child care on Kindergarten students’ non-attending days. An Early Learning Program is offered for kindergarten, community children and children with assessed developmental delays ages 21/2-6. We offer full-day alternate day Kindergarten Programs. The programs are Monday, Wednesday, and alternating Fridays or Tuesday, Thursday and alternating Fridays. A supervised lunch program, as well as a Before and After school program is available. The programs run from 7:15-8:15am and from 3:00-6:00pm and are available on a pre-registration/pre-paid basis. We offer two exciting alternating full-day kindergarten programs which include an introduction to early literacy through the Scholastic Balanced Literacy Program. Classroom instruction is based on the latest brain-based learning research. An Early Learning Program is offered for community children and children with assessed developmental delays ages 21/2-6. Webster Niblock School offers an engaging Kindergarten program that endeavors to meet the needs of all children through a variety of instructional strategies. Children will participate in hands-on experiences in an atmosphere that is warm and welcoming! Webster Niblock offers an alternating full-day kindergarten program (Mon/Wed - every other Friday; and Tues/Thurs. - every other Friday). Supervised lunch is provided free of charge.
