SUNDAY GROUP MEDITATION 5:00 PM, in the Sanctuary QUIET MORNING Saturday, April 30 9-Noon (Teaching is at 10:00 AM) DEACON GAY ROMACK ARIZONA RECIPIENT ST. STEPHEN AWARD FOR DIACONAL MINISTRY With the full support of Bishop Kirk Smith, the criteria for the St. Stephen’s recognition award were shared with all deacons within the Diocese of Arizona. As a community, the deacons were asked to raise up their sisters or brothers in diaconal ministry by submitting a nomination form complete with a description of the ministry. Three nominations were received and the final ballot was sent to the deacon community for their selection. Responses were anonymous and a comments section was provided. A sample of the comments received included: “Deacon Gay is out and among the women in prison, a much needed Diaconal presence and representative of the Church and Christ to those whom many in society have written off and forgotten about. She is deserving of this recognition.” Every diocese elects an outstanding deacon and they will all be recognized at the Triennial Association of Episcopal Deacons Conference in Minneapolis this June. Opportunities to Serve FAMILY PROMISE - Transitional Housing for Homeless Families In the beginning of our long history of working with homeless families, there was resistance. People were fearful of having “those people” at our church. Strong leadership and compassionate hearts prevailed and gradually a shift occurred. Now when we host our families and hear their stories, the hands and feet of Christ are at work providing meals, safety, comfort, and friendship to families who need support. This outreach ministry requires a strong and compassionate coordinator. We are grateful to Leslie Bieler for her amazing leadership in coordinating this ministry for the past couple of years. Thank you, Leslie, for your care and concern for the families and volunteers. Lorelei Lange will be the new coordinator and is already getting organized for the next session June 19-26. Lorelei and her husband, Judson, moved to Arizona last year from New York and have found a home at St. Peter’s. Thanks to all who participate in this ministry. FINANCE REPORT SP Kids & Students JOIN THE FUN THIS SUMMER! Last year we had 135 children here at St. Peter’s for Vacation Bible School, and we’re expecting a similar number of eager young campers this summer (July 11-15). We’ll need plenty of volunteers to shepherd groups, teach lessons, direct games, lead crafts, etc. We need people of all ages, with a variety of talents! Please sign up at the SP Kids table today! For safety and insurance purposes, volunteers must have completed the online course, Safeguarding God’s Children, before the beginning of VBS. Speaking of Volunteers .... We are in need of volunteer teachers and assistants in several of our Sunday school classes. Please see Debbie Quick if you’d like to help. January to March Revenue Expenses Surplus ACTUAL $125,907 $122,999 2,908 Since we instituted the new policy of pledges without a signature, we are monitoring closely the pledge income and praying that this will be successful. If you are going away this summer, please consider paying your pledge before you leave or set it up with your bank to auto-pay. It’s important that we all make every effort to keep our pledge current. Thank you, The Finance Team All teens are invited to come and watch the movie God’s Not Dead 2 on Thursday, April 21 at the Palm Valley Theater. This activity will take the place of our regularly scheduled TNL meeting. Any students who need a ride should be at the church by 6:15 PM, otherwise feel free to meet us at the theater before the movie starts. Tickets are $7.50, and the movie is rated PG-13. For questions, or to RSVP, please contact Deacon Michael or Selena Guzman.
