About the Kidney Foundation of Canada and what we do An estimated 2 million Canadians have kidney disease, or are at risk, particularly people with high blood pressure, diabetes or heart disease. But with few warning signs or symptoms, kidney disease often goes undetected – until it’s too late. The Kidney Foundation of Canada helps people to manage, delay and, in some cases, even prevent kidney disease by raising awareness of treatment options, appropriate lifestyle choices, and the importance of early detection. Through public initiatives, we are increasing understanding of the vital role kidneys play in overall health, disease warning signs and the rewards of organ donation. We’ve helped turn a once fatal disease into a manageable and treatable one. But today, with kidney disease on the rise, our challenge is greater than ever. Thank you for supporting this special event – without your help we wouldn’t be able to continue supporting those living with kidney disease in Ontario and across Canada. *A Charitable donation tax receipt will be issued to all players who provide contact information. $290 includes: • 18 holes on Angus Glen south course • power cart • driving range • grab bag • prizes • lunch & dinner For more information call Brian Noad at 416.670.3784 or Email [email protected] or visit www.funwithfunds.ca to print a registration form. After 3.5 weeks of struggling to gain weight and showing signs of failing to thrive, I was transported to SickKids Hospital where I was diagnosed as having a ‘dysplastic left kidney’. The doctors explained that I was born with only a portion of the left kidney, I was in serious renal failure and that my best chances for survival would eventually be a kidney transplant. SickKids assisted mommy and daddy with learning how to best care for me, by working very hard to help me gain the weight I needed in order to receive a new kidney when the time was right. At the same time, I was able to be ‘little’ and learn all the things I needed to develop into the big boy that I am today. By seven months of age, I finally needed the help of dialysis; which mommy and daddy learnt to do in our own home for the next 2.5 years. This helped my body to be cleared of toxins that often made me very ill, lacking in energy, and limiting me in the activities children normally do during that stage of development. It has been almost one year since we received our much awaited call, and because of one very special donor, I now have the strength and unlimited opportunity to discover what life should be like for a 4-year-old. Almost all of my tubes are gone; with the exception of my G-tube, while I continue the learning process of how to enjoy solid foods. I will now be able to participate in all water activities and can proudly say that I recently graduated from ‘Turtles’ and will be a ‘Salamander’ in my swimming classes this spring. Mommy and daddy say that they often have a hard time keeping up with all the energy that I have today, but would not trade these moments for anything in the entire world. Hayden Scott Knight Special guests joining us for the First Annual Kidney Classic will be Stu Jeffries and Colleen Rusholme from 97.3 EZ Rock. Wake up with Stu and Colleen weekday mornings from 5 to 9 a.m. Their recent 3-day radiothon in support of SickKids Hospital was a huge success and was instrumental in us hearing Hayden’s story. We are very fortunate to have Stu and Colleen join us for the day, as well as Hayden Knight and his family!!
