Jorge Acevedo
THE WORLD
on april 21/22, 2016
Jorge Acevedo is lead pastor at Grace Church, a multi-site, United Methodist congregation in Southwest Florida (Cape Coral, Fort Myers Shores
and North Fort Myers). Grace has grown weekend attendance from 400
to over 2600 in the past 15 years and is recognized as having one of the
most effective recovery ministries in America with over 700 people involved weekly. Grace added two additional worshiping communities in
2003 and 2008. Jorge is the author of Vital: Churches Changing Communities and the World (Abingdon Press, 2013) and co-author of The Heart
of Youth Ministry (Bristol Books, 1989) and Sent: Delivering the Gift of
Hope at Christmas (Abingdon Press, 2015).
Dr. J. Kabamba Kiboko
Changing the world seems like a BIG,
seemingly IMPOSSIBLE job.
Except... it’s NOT.
So, how do you do it?
ONE LIFE AT A TIME.
CHANGE the WORLD is designed to eliminate our big
“buts,” providing the tools, information and inspiration
we need to change the world ONE life, ONE community
or ONE special point on the globe at a time - regardless
of church size, location or budget.
(Turn to p. 7 to learn more about the ROOTED training and networking event)
1
Preacher, scholar and author Dr. J. Kabamba Kiboko was the first clergywoman to be ordained elder in the Southern Congo Episcopal Area of the
United Methodist Church. She has cross-cultural educational and pastoral experiences in both the Democratic Republic of Congo (DRC) and in
the United States. Dr. Kiboko, who holds a Ph.D in biblical interpretation
(Old Testament), serves as lead pastor of Forest Chapel United Methodist Church. Her writings include “A Tapestry in the Disanga: Building
Beloved Community from a Congolese Perspective” in A New Dawn in
Beloved Community: Stories with the Power to Transform Us (Abingdon,
2013).
Mike Slaughter
Mike Slaughter is the almost four-decade dreamer of Ginghamsburg
and the spiritual entrepreneur of ministry marketplace innovations. His
life-long passion to reach the lost and set the oppressed free has made
him a tireless and leading advocate for the people of Sudan. His books,
Change the World - recovering the message and mission of Jesus (Abingdon Press, 2010) and Christmas is Not Your Birthday (Abingdon Press,
2012), embody what it means to take the church into the world rather
than coaxing the world into the church. His newest book, The Christian
Wallet: Spending, Giving, and Living with a Conscience (Westminster
John Know Press), was released in January 2016.

TRACK 1
Loaves & Fish Ministry: because
everything you need you already have
People want to change the world; they truly do. They just don’t
always know where to get started or may let a scarcity mentality
hold them back. In this track, explore how to grow adults, students
and children into disciples who not only believe they can change
the world one life at a time, but then actually do it. This track also
provides great ideas on how to serve your local community in
meaningful ways, no matter your church size, while also reaching
the wider world that Jesus loves.
TRACK 2
Simple Org: right-sizing structures
for movements that soar
Simple organisms - and organizations - multiply faster than
complex ones do. And, let’s face it, require less money. Discover
how to organize, budget, team and lead to exponentially multiply
the mission.
TRACK 3
Design On A Dime: a mud ‘n spit theology
for media, marketing and environments
The Church has never existed in a better age for reaching more
people with less financial investment. Creativity, connectivity
and technology can position every faith community, regardless of
church budget, to reach out with significant impact. These breakouts explore how to use whatever God has already placed in your
hand to share communications, marketing, stories and environments that engage new people, while also serving your church
family with excellence.
You may choose to “cross over the tracks” if you like!
You do not need to select your breakouts ahead of time.
