After a 2 month hiatus, I can finally put together an article
and Susan can put a newsletter together. Between computer
problems and a poor internet connection while in Florida it was
very frustrating to try and put a newsletter out.
Glad to be back in Michigan for a few months, as many of
you already know we purchased a 5th Wheel to leave on site in
Florida for our winter home. Towing the trailer with two bikes and
all it takes to set up a home back and forth was getting old and
expensive.
With that said hopefully everyone survived the winter in
Michigan. We were able to get together with the Howey’s a few
time in Florida, it was nice visiting some fellow chapter members.
In addition we and they attended some chapters in the Ocala and
Inverness, Florida area.
One thing I noted was that we are not the only chapter that
has difficulty putting rides together and getting member
participation. Didn’t make me feel any better about the situation
but on the other hand not the only chapter having problems
makes it easier to deal with.
Ben G. has put together a tentative ride for June 25th to
Manistee, Mi. this is scheduled to be an overnight ride with a stay
at the Microtel Hotel in Manistee, because he has 6 rooms
reserved in his name or use GWRRA. (3 rooms) have 2 QB at
$143.10 + tax/night and (3 rooms) 1 QB at $125.10 + tax/ night.
The phone number is (231) 398-0008 to reserve your room. They
will be available from now to May 25th, after that you'll need to
find other lodging arrangements. We can discuss this at the
meeting This Saturday. Jerry has done some further looking for
rooms in the area but they all are in about the same price range.

We will have camping, vendors, entertainment, games, food, and seminars. It will be a fun
weekend with lots of "Gun Smoke" fun.
On another note there is a ride to the North Wall in Ontario that honors the Canadian
Forces that fought in Viet Nam, I for one plan on attending this year.
Looking forward to seeing everyone this Saturday at Fritz’s Restaurant at 9 am.

Hello Everyone,
I have great news for you.........Spring is officially here!! How do I know for sure?? I saw a
Mckenney wandering around in there yard the other day..... LOL Yes John and Sue have
returned from the sunshine state and have probably brought back a few of our other
chapter members as well. Welcome home everyone, it will be nice to see all of you again.
This roller coaster weather ride we have been experiencing is certainly getting annoying
as one day you are in short sleeve shirts and the next your winter coat. Hard to plan
anything past one day just because nothing has been consistent in the weather
department.
How did my spring turkey hunters do this year?? I was successful again this year with a
nice Tom. It weighed 21 lbs., had a 9 5/8 in. beard and one inch spurs. Picture included. I
hope those of you that hunt were able to bag a bird as well and the season is still going
on, so you still have time.
Looking forward to the riding season as always and hope to put some miles on the bike
before to long. Just waiting for Mother Nature and my schedule to connect to have some
fun. Ben G. has put together an overnight Casino ride that will be discussed at our next
gathering. I will let him present the details at that time however, anyone that is interested
in going should try and make the meeting.
That's about it from this end so I will look forward to seeing you soon!!
Sincerely,
David L. Manier

Motorcycle Two and Three Wheels Group Riding April 2016.
As a rider educator for my chapter and being sort of an odd ball with ownership of a 3 wheel
Spyder by BRP in and Honda Goldwing (GWRRA) organization that has many more 2 wheels riders
that 3 wheel riders. The age of the riders and the experience of time riding is a huge gap, especially
now that women are now drivers vs being co-riders.
The 3 wheeled bike are twice the width of many 2 wheelers and require a larger foot print on
the road so a modified stager patter has to be adapted, along with spacing since we cannot roll up to
the driver in front as easily. Then you complicate matters by adding trailers that truly require more
spacing to panic stop, if necessary. This is something that all chapter riding organizers will need to
consider and make a positioning layout for these bikes. Now to consider totally new riders to the
group ride and where are placed based on their bike type.
The adoption of 3 second rule on staggering for 2 wheelers, doesn’t work for 3 wheelers as
well, but it could be a 4 second rule and now trailers, 5 second on them? As you now see keeping
the group close together is rather difficult, especially if there mixed. If we break the drivers based on
bike style and have more than one group then this may maintain a reasonable organized group ride
and is more presentable.
Many drivers are not equipped with broad communication (CB) and a few have helmet to
helmet partner communication, now this is where all riders must be familiar with hand signals and be
able to recognize them and there meaning along with activating them too. Over the past three months
I have been sending out information on group riding and each rider responsibility within the group and

the road captain duties along with tail gunners. As groups start growing larger or ride with other
groups it’s imperative that we have captains and gunners for both style bikes.
As the new season starts it’s up to us to step up and get certified to do these duties, if nothing
else than have the confidence that you can perform the duties in a pinch.
