Newsletter Editor Glenn Hessee underwent cataract surgery at the Duke
Eye Center on October 23. The amazing procedure took only 40 minutes
and a new lens was implanted in the right eye dramatically improving
vision. The left eye will be rejuvenated on December 11.
Construction News
McGraw Hill Construction predicts that total construction starts will rise
6% in 2013. The forecast was released this week at it’s annual Outlook
Conference in Washington DC. The construction industry will continue
it’s slow climb out of a deep recession, but the recovery remains
vulnerable to factors as the cloudy federal fiscal picture. The gain will
follow a 5% increase for 2012.
Charlotte and Raleigh earn high scores in the Urban Land Institutes latest
Emerging Trends In Real Estate forecast report. Charlotte came in at No.
17 in a ranking of 51 U.S. Markets to watch for overall real estate
prospects. Raleigh was ranked at No. 11 and was the only other North
Carolina city listed in the report. The Raleigh Durham area is a hub of
education and has an affordable cost of living with substantial job growth
from a diverse employment base stimulating the economy. The
importance of the housing market as a backbone to the commercial
market is visible with another projected increase in housing prices of 1%
for next year. RDU is one of the few metro areas to emerge out of the red
since the recession.
