• Connecticut referendum or election advertising must, by law,
include the name and address of the person placing the advertisement. Advertisements being placed by a group must include the
name of the treasurer of the group and such organizations must
be registered with the appropriate town clerk. Referendum, election and political advertisements must be pre-paid.
• The newspaper cannot guarantee that an advertisement will
appear on a specific page or a specific position on the page.
Position requests may be granted subject to availability and at the
sole discretion of the publisher.
• Service Charges – Orders must be placed before deadline.
Advertisements composed for publication, but not run on
the original insertion date, must be run within 30 days, or
the advertiser will be billed for 50% of the cost of the space
ordered.

All new accounts are to be prepaid until credit has been established.
Credit shall be allowed at the sole discretion of the publisher.
Accounts in arrears will be refused further advertising until such
time as balance has been paid. Duplicate bills and tear-sheets will
be provided on request. Bills not paid when due may be charged at
1.5% per month on the unpaid balance or 18% per annum. A service fee will be charged for all returned checks. All transient, “Going
Out of Business,” and political advertising must be paid in advance.
“Going Out of Business” advertisements must show the closing out
license number in the ad.

General RATE POLICIES
Advertising accepted by Hersam Acorn is subject to all terms and
conditions contained herein. Eligibility for retail rate is at the discretion of the publisher.
• Contract advertising and applicable contract rate is governed by
the publisher. The publisher reserves the right to cancel an advertising contract due to failure of an advertiser to meet the terms of
the contract.
• The publisher reserves the right to change the rates stipulated
herein on 30 days written notice.
• All display advertisements are measured and billed on the standard basis of one-half inch and full column inches.
• The word “Advertisement” to indicate paid advertising will be
printed across the top of each advertisement that simulates newspaper reading matter.
• The publisher reserves the right to revise or reject any advertisement.
• The publisher shall not be responsible for the omission, in whole
or part, of any advertisement or for any typographical or other
error.
• The publisher’s liability shall be limited to the amount paid by
the advertiser for the first insertion only, and in no event shall the
publisher be liable for consequences.
Credit TERMS
Non-Profit RATES
All advertisements on behalf of and paid by a non-profit, charitable or religious organization and appearing without commercial
signature will be given a 10% discount off the open rate. Taxexempt number must be presented on the organization’s letterhead.

Ad PROOFS
Hersam Acorn’s award-winning art department is well equipped to
produce creative ad layouts at no additional charge to the customer.
A “spec ad” may be requested one week in advance of appearing
in paper (deadline Wednesday 5pm). The customer may make
design/typographical changes at this point. An “Email Proof” or
“Fax Proof” may be requested the week the ad is running as well,
but only typographical errors can be changed. No design or
copy changes will be accepted.

Technical GUIDELINES
We accept Acrobat PDF, InDesign CS, QuarkXPress (6.5 or lower),
Illustrator and Photoshop. We do not accept Microsoft PowerPoint
or Publisher. Electronic files can be submitted via email, CD or our

Spot color ad cost is $175 per paper.
Four-color ad cost is $550 per paper.
Section B is a weekly section that appears in our Eastern
newspapers. Section B focuses on a different special topic
each week. Some of the topics to be featured include: Home,
Health & Fitness, Education, and Real Estate. Contact your
account executive for a complete list of topics and deadlines.
Section B will also incorporate the area arts coverage, classified section and automotive pages.

CALCULATING AD COST
Number of columns wide x inches high = size of ad in

Hersam Acorn publishes fourteen Answerbooks throughout
the year. They contain answers to questions on dozens of local

The following rates are based on signed contracts for a commitment to a minimum number of insertions during a contract year. Rates are extended based on conditions set forth in
the signed contract. Failure to reach the agreed-upon number
of insertions will result in being back billed at a higher rate.
Pre-print rates apply to single-advertiser sections only. All
multiple-advertiser sections will be charged at the group column inch rate. All pre-printed sections are accepted subject
to publisher approval.

• The minimum insert size is 5” by 6”.
• All inserts must be folded so they are no larger than
11” by 11”. Inserts larger than the required size will be
refused or the customer will be charged for folding.
• All inserts must have a packing slip or bill of lading
showing quantity shipped, papers ordered, and the name
and telephone number of the printer.
• Postal regulations prevent us from running pre-prints
containing a postal indicia.

• Contract advertising and applicable contract rate is governed by
the publisher. The publisher reserves the right to cancel an advertising contract due to failure of an advertiser to meet the terms of
contract.
• The publisher reserves the right to change the rates stipulated herein on thirty (30) days written notice.
• All display advertisements are measured and billed on the
standard basis of modular count.
• The word “advertisement” to indicate paid advertising will be
printed across the top of each advertisement that simulates newspaper reading matter.
• The publisher reserves the right to revise or reject any
advertisement.
• The publisher shall not be responsible for the ommission, in whole
or part, of an advertisement or for any typographical or other error.
• The pubisher’s liability shall be limited to the amount paid by the
advertiser for the first insertion only, and in no event shall the publisher be liable for consequences.
Credit terms
All new accounts are to be prepaid until credit has been established.
Credit shall be allowed at the sole discretion of the publisher. Accounts in arrears will be refused further advertising until such time
as balance has been paid. Duplicate bills and tear-sheets will be provided on request. Bills not paid when due may be charged at 1.5%
per month on the unpaid balance or 18% per annum. A service fee
will be charged for all returned checks. All transient, “Going Out of
Business” and political advertising must be paid in advance. “Going
Out of Business” advertisements must show the closing out license
number in the ad.

NEWS
• Vermont referendum or election advertising must, by law, include
the name and address of the person placing the advertisement.
Advertisements being placed by a group must include the name of
the treasurer of the group and such organizations must be registered
with the appropriate town clerk. Referendum and election advertisements must be prepaid.
• The newspaper cannot guarantee that an advertisement will appear
on a specific page or a specific position on the page. Position requests may be granted subject to availability and at sole discretion
of the publisher.
• Service Charges - Orders must be placed before deadline. Advertisements composed for publication, but not run on the original
insertion date, must be run within 30 days, or the advertiser will be
billed for 50% of the cost of the space ordered.

Non-Profit rates
all advertisements on behalf of and paid by a non-profit, charitable or religious organization and appearing without commercial
signature will be given the 52x rate. tax-exempt number must be
presented on the organization’s letterhead.

Ad proofs
The Hersam Acorn Newspapers art department is well-equipped to
produce creative ad layouts at no additional charge to the customer.
A “spec ad” can be requested one week in advance of appearing in
paper (deadline Wednesday at 5 pm prior to publication date). The
customer may make design/typographical changes at this point. An
“Email Proof ” or “Fax Proof ” may be requested the week the ad is
running as well, but only typographical errors can be changed. No
design or copy changes will be accepted.

We accept acrobat pdF, indesign cs, QuarkXpress (6.5 or lower),
illustrator and photoshop. We do not accept microsoft powerpoint
or publisher. electronic files can be submitted via email, cd or our
