About Let hbridgeABOUT LETHBRIDGE
Lethbridge residents enjoy a comfortable, dry climate with warm summers and mild winters. In fact, Lethbridge has the mildest Canadian climate east of British Columbia and
Southern Alberta enjoys the greatest number of hours of sunshine per year in Canada.
Its proximity to the Rocky Mountains provide Chinook winds which warm in winter and
cool in summer.
Lethbridge is Alberta’s third largest city, with a population of over 70,000. Even growth
has allowed for well-planned streets, parks, recreational facilities, and business and
residential neighborhoods – making Lethbridge a remarkably easy city to navigate.
Lethbridge is currently enjoying record construction rates in both commercial and
residential sectors which is evidence of its vitality.
Lethbridge has also often been voted one of the cleanest and prettiest cities in the
country. In September 1999, Lethbridge entered in the World in Bloom" Competition
and was awarded a total of 5 blooms out of a possible 5 with special recognition for
"coulee conservation" in the Communities in Bloom International category.
Few cities the size of Lethbridge have as many opportunities for recreation. Parks, lakes,
golf courses, fitness centres, swimming pools and sports facilities make it the ideal place
to host virtually any sport or physical activity. From equestrian trails in Pavan Park, to fishing in several city lakes, almost any activity can be enjoyed in Lethbridge.
With the friendliness of a small town, but the opportunities of a large city, the diverstiy of
opportunity is enhanced by the University of Lethbridge, Lethbridge Community College
and the Research Station. The citizens of Lethbridge welcome visitors with pride in what
it has to offer. On the cultural scene: Lethbridge is home to the Yates and Sterndale
Bennet Theatres, Sir Alexander Galt Museum & Archives, the Southern Alberta Art Gallery,
Nikka Yuko Japanese Garden, Fort Whoop-Up Interpretive Centre, the Bowman Arts
Centre, and the University of Lethbridge Performing Arts Centre and the University of
Lethbridge Art Gallery.
The Downtown is the heart of the Lethbridge cultural scene and it houses many
restaurants, coffee and cappuccino bars, bistros and nightclubs. It boasts one of the
biggest revitalization zones around, with over 700 businesses in the area, making for
many kinds of activity with a variety of special events, many of them in the summer in
the city’s urban heart – Galt Gardens.
Lethbridge is also easy to access for visitors. Being located at the crossroads of four
major highways, and with many daily scheduled flights through the Lethbridge airport
connecting to Edmonton via Integra Air and Calgary via Air Canada Jazz, Lethbridge
visitors have a variety of travel options to choose from and a variety of things to do.
To the west, spectacular mountains lure visitors and locals to Waterton Lakes National
Park. Driving southwest to Waterton from Lethbridge, the mountains rise above the
prairie in a sudden and spectacular sweep. To the north, foothills smooth the transition
between prairie and the mountains, and to the south, travelers are greeted by the beauty
of dryland prairie, agricultural lands and softly rolling hills. The U.S. border and Montana
are only 1 hour away.

ABOUT LETHBRIDGE
Parks
The City of Lethbridge maintains 4,300 acres of urban parks. This system of parks has been
developed along the beautiful Oldman River as it meanders through the city in a deep
wooded valley. Residents are often seen walking, jogging, roller blading and cycling through
the parks and trails in almost every type of weather. Some of the lakes that are located
within the city’s parks are stocked with fish, including trout. As well as the parks, 70 green
strips, small playgrounds and fields are located in various areas throughout the city.
Nestled amongst the cottonwoods and coulees of the Oldman River Valley and framed
beneath the magnificent High Level Bridge, the Helen Schuler Coulee Centre introduces
visitors to the 81-hectare Lethbridge Nature Reserve. The Centre itself provides a variety
of programs such as nature walks, self-guided trails, exhibits and children's programs on
a year-round basis.
Henderson Lake Park located on Mayor Magrath Drive and South Parkside Drive features a
60 acre man made lake with concessions, picnic areas and playgrounds. The park has a
variety of trails for walkers, joggers and cyclists. A campground is located next to the park.
Nicholas Sheran Park located in West Lethbridge, was first introduced as a regional park
concept in 1969, was positioned and constructed in 1974. The original design of the park
was based on concepts that have functioned beautifully for the past 20 years and have
also created opportunities for change as the park matures and the community grows.
Museum
Lethbridge is also home to the Sir Alexander Galt Museum and Archives where guided and
self guided tours, frequently changing exhibits, and numerous special events and programs
bring 100 years of Southern Alberta heritage to life.
Nikka Yuko Japanese Garden
The Nikka Yuko Japanese Garden, located adjacent to Henderson Lake Park, is a summer
tourist attraction in which visitors are given the opportunity to experience Japanese culture
as well as viewing the breathtaking gardens.
High Level Bridge
The High Level Bridge completed in 1909 is the longest and highest of its type of
construction in North America, extending over 1.6 Km across the coulees to Lethbridge.
It is 314 feet high.

LETHBRIDGE CURLING CLUB
911 6th Ave. South, beside the Civic Ice Centre
The Lethbridge Curling Club was one of the first organized Curling Clubs in
Alberta, having celebrated its 100th Anniversary in 1995. It has a proud tradition,
and has been home to many provincial and Canadian champions over the years.
The Lethbridge Curling Club has levels of play to meet everyone’s skill level, from
the casual or recreational curler, to those curling in regular leagues and for the
ultra competitor, a super league where the curlers play for cash every week. This
includes Mens, Womens’ and Mixed leagues as well as Seniors Daytime leagues.
The season runs from early October through March and you may curl as often
and in as many leagues as you have the energy for. All you need to join the club
is complete a membership application, and if you are not already with a team,
we will help place you on a team.
In addition to our regular evening or Adult leagues, we offer a couple of Junior
Leagues. One is a developmental league and the other geared to the more
competitive junior curler. The developmental leagues main purpose is to develop
our young curlers. During the early part of their season, the majority of the ice
time is devoted to developing technical skill, with time set aside to include off ice
training. The competitive league is fashioned after the evening Super League with
teams playing for weekly cash prizes.
Services
In addition to our leagues we offer ice rentals from one through ten sheets.
We have a full service lounge with all the amenities. As well, our concession
(leased out) provides a full menu and catering is available.
During the off season the club is available for bookings for private parties, and
has been used for meetings and conferences.

ABOUT LETHBRIDGE
Miscellaneous Facilities Skate Park
Lethbridge is excited to own one of Alberta’s premier multi-purpose skate parks.
Located directly north of the city’s BMX track - at 7 Avenue and 7 Street North in
Dave Elton Park, the skate park is an 1850 square meter play area of contoured
concrete that features a bowl and concrete obstacles, most of which are six to seven
meters in height. The concrete area is surrounded by trees and bordered by a
grassed spectator/picnic area. The multi-purpose skate park is operated under the
City of Lethbridge parks system, and open to recreational users at no charge.
Built in 1999, the multi-purpose skate park caters to youth and young adults who
skateboard, inline skate and trick bicycle ride. Hours of operation are from sunrise
to sunset. The park does not have lighting, and therefore does not lend itself to
night-time activities. Year round use is limited only by inclement weather; the park
doesn’t officially close, and can attract users January through December.
BMX Track
The Lethbridge BMX Track is a dynamic, challenging track, located at 724-7 St. North
at the northwest corner of the Dave Elton Park complex.
Built to facilitate riders from 3 years on up, the track opens around the first week in
May and stays open through September. Tuesdays have traditionally been race
days, with opportunity for coaching time and practice on Thursdays. For more
information, go to the Lethbridge BMX website www.lethbridgebmx.com
Disc Golf
Disc Golf also known as frisbee golf, is played much like golf, but instead of a club
and a ball, players throw plastic flying discs at a series of specially designed basketlike targets. All you need is a little bit of time, a disc or Frisbee, and Lethbridge’s
eighteen hole disc golf course, located in the west Lethbridge, Nicholas Sheran Park.
The course, a legacy of the 2001 Alberta Seniors Games, is accessible to the public
at no charge, on a first come/first serve, walk-on basis. If your group or organization
wishes to reserve the course for a function, booking may be done through the City
of Lethbridge Community Services booking clerks-320-3011.
Hole number one, and a central directory sign explaining the rules of disc golf are
located just south of the park depot and parking lot on McMaster Boulevard.
Golf cards are available at the Community Services office located on the third floor
of City Hall.

the area’s famous coulees. As well, a large number of green strips, small playgrounds and fields are located in various areas throughout the city. This. coupled
with a wealth of pools, sport fields, and arenas, makes Lethbridge ideal for holding
major sport competitions.
The City of Lethbridge has developed a system to help organizations host events
within the City of Lethbridge. If the event or some aspect of the event is to be held
in or on a city park, roadway or public open space, a special event permit is
required from the city’s Leisure Services Department-3rd floor, 910-4 Ave. S. (403)
320-3011. These registered events, in receipt of a City of Lethbridge permit will take
precedence over all unregistered events, should a conflict for use of space arise.
The City of Lethbridge encourages and supports this type of participation within
the city by providing services such as delivering bleachers, and picking up garbage.
A Community Event van and a show mobile are just two of the ideas that may be
useful to your organization.
More information or answers to your questions or
concerns is available by calling 320-3011.
TRANSPORTATION:
The use of buses provided by Lethbridge Transit in conjunction with smaller
passenger vans, courtesy of local car dealerships, has provided effective
and efficient shuttle and transportation service when Lethbridge has hosted
other large events in the city. Major arterial roadways link the downtown
core to all hotels and motels as well as most city facilities.
DINING AND SHOPPING:
Well over 100 restaurants, from fine dining and trendy eateries to fast food
outlets and coffee houses are found throughout the city. After-hours clubs
and pubs cater to all tastes; there are establishments offering
pleasant, intimate surroundings, high energy rock and roll, country, and
English style pub ambience.
The city is southern Alberta's shopping mecca, featuring seven shopping
centres and vibrant downtown area with ample parking and quick access.
Because Lethbridge serves as the hub for a trading area of about 275,000
people, the city has more retail and personal services than would normally
be found in a city its size.
