Opening REMARKS
Welcome, welcome, welcome! Before we begin, we have a very special bid for you, brought to you all the way from Salem MA. The time has come to select
one courageous College or University for the honor of representing District NEACURH in the Building Block of the Year Award! The Omega Zeta Epsilon executive board held the annual eboard advance to discuss new initiatives, goals and budget for the upcoming year. Discussing the past of the organization and the
new members that we added and the old that graduated, we knew this was the year of change the organization needed and deserved. During the advance we
focused on five goals that we could accomplish this year. OZE is excited to say these have been accomplished!!

Leadership
Involvement
Attendance at Conference: OZE has been in attendance at all NEACURH and NACURH conferences this past year. We have been increasing our numbers
of NRHH members that have been attending since last year. Last Minis we had 4 members that attended conference. For NACURH 2013 we had 6 of the 8
delegates on our delegation that are NRHH members. For NEACURH Regionals 2013 we had 2 attend and for Sub-Regional meeting we had 2 members attend.
Conference Support:
Omega Zeta Epsilon assisted with helping plan and set up the NEACURH Spring New England Sub-Regionals hosted by Salem State University.
Monthly Moose Calling:
Members of NRHH have been actively submitting articles and top 10s to the Monthly Moose Calling. This is the first year we have been actively trying to
encourage members to submit to the MMC.
OTM Voting Committees:
One member of Omega Zeta Epsilon is currently serving on the NACURH OTM voting committee. We also have three active members in NRHH serving on the
NEACURH OTM voting committee. The involvement on these committees was strongly encouraged this year and unfortunately some of our members were
turned down to sit on these committees this year.
Pins and Certificates:
Omega Zeta Epsilon orders all pins and certificates from the NSRO. Our 8 “Outstanding Leadership Service Pins” are given out at the end of the year celebration that is hosted by NRHH and RHA in April of every year.
Inductions
Since last NEACURH Minis conference our goal as an organization has been to reach out to more student leaders that are not involved in Residence Life. As
an organization we sat down and realized that a large portion of our applicants and inductees are either a resident assistant (RA) or an academic mentor
(AM), we knew we had to spread our mocking jay wings. We needed to be the “women on fire” and figure out how to light the fire for other student leaders
living on campus. Last Spring we had the highest number of applicants OZE has ever seen. We had 22 applicants for 10 open positions. Of these applicants
we reached others on campus that had other positions on campus than RA and AM. This past fall we had 6 applicants apply for 2 open positions. The two
new inductees were both involved outside of Residence Life, showing that our goal has been reached to broaden our horizons and be more inclusive to other
student leaders.
“Of the Month Awards”
Our chapter this year wanted to increase our regional winners and continue to grow in writing Of the Month Awards. These awards are a huge hit on our campus because along with a certificate the winners of campus wide receive a OZE orange pen. These pens are always a fun recognition prize along with the print
out of what the nominee said about the person or event. This year our numbers of writing OTMs has stayed rather consistent around 100 OTMs being submitted. However our Regional Winners has increased from 10 to 16. The amount of quality OTMs has increased drastically as well. The President and OTM Chair
this year made an initiative to present at RHA and other groups and club meetings on how to write a quality OTM. Since this new initiative our OTM’s this year
have drastically changed for the better. The presentation will now be presented in the future for others to learn how to write OTM’s.

Scholastics
The growth of scholastics this year has become one of our skills in our repertoire, making us a valuable tribute for Building Block of the Year. Although we
are not perfect, we have gained a lot of strength in this area and we are ready to take on the other districts that want to challenge us in the game. We have
gained new initiatives this year that set us apart from the other tributes for this award.
You got the D(eans List)
Our new initiative to recognize our residents on campus that have received over a 3.25 G.P.A. or deans list. Every resident in each residence hall received a
door decorations/ certificate for receiving deans list. Attached to the certificate is the application for NRHH letting residents know that since they have over
the GPA requirement for NRHH they should look into applying. This recognition project has been the first time recognizing people living on campus with deans
list in the entire span of Omega Zeta Epsilon.
Pen Pals
This initiative we started in the fall semester and it was a success in the first few weeks of starting. Unfortunately when we wrote our letters to the students at
Salem High School who were at risk of dropping out of school, the students decided it was not something they cared about and gave up on us. We have been
diligently working on getting a new school to work with and have almost finalized a location.
Tutoring
We have offered numerous districts for our members to help out the students in our community. We have been given three opportunities to tutor with different programs throughout Salem and the neighboring area.
Raising our GPA
The requirement for induction has been looked at this year to increase for the next academic year. We have decided to raise the GPA to a 2.75 because as an
organization we have decided that it would make us more of a prestigious organization and more people on campus will be interested in wanting to be a part
of the organization.
New Position
We have just updated our rules of the game for the upcoming academic year. Attached in the bid is the new constitution that has been approved for next year.
We are extremely excited to be having this new position for next year since we have never had a person in charge of scholastics.
“Scholastics Chair of Omega Zeta Epsilon shall be responsible for creating and implementing tutoring programs within the Salem Community. They shall be
responsible for creating the Dean’s List for each residence hall. They will be in charge of creating the recognition for residents making the Dean’s List. They
will be in charge of the Pen Pals program. They will be in charge of any other Scholastics programs that are determined each year. They will preside over the
Scholastics Committee. They will hold at least one office hour per week and write at least one OTM per month.”

Service
For Salem State University’s NRHH, Service is one of the main pillars that show our strength and dedication to the organization. Every event that has been
planned has been discussed on how it could be improved from previous years. NRHH commits a lot of time to their service pillar and strives for it to grow at
any opportunity possible.
SERVICE SATURDAYS
An event that has been adopted from Salem State’s Residence Hall Association to our organization, is Service Saturdays. Every other month there is an event
held in one of the residence halls on campus on a Saturday. So far, NRHH has held events in both of our freshmen halls and our sophomore building. In October, Peabody Hall participated in building a 4 foot sculpture made of recycled water bottles taken from their recycling bins to show them how many bottles
are used daily and discuss facts of recycling. During the month of December, Bowditch Hall wrote letters to ‘Santa’ that would be given to Macy’s Make a Wish
Foundation for where every letter written, $1 is donated to the Make a Wish Foundation. NRHH was able to write up just under 100 letters to be given.
OPERATION HOLIDAY CARDS
Along with making sure residents are involved and active, events are brought back from previous years and made bigger. For example, Operation Holiday
Cards for Troops has been an NRHH event for multiple years and this year, the number of cards that were made and shipped had doubled from last year. But
NRHH won’t stop there; we have also been collaborating with other groups on campus and have been participating in their events that have been planned.
Salem State University’s NRHH aims for any opportunity to not only better their community, but also better themselves as an organization and strives to
improve service in any way.
MLK DAY OF SERVICE
An event NRHH participated in was the MLK Day of Service where volunteers separated into four groups to help with four different activities. Two groups
stayed on campus to write letters to troops overseas and help with project Linus, where the other two groups separated off campus and either went to
LifeBridge in Salem, MA to help either in the kitchen or thrift shop, or went to the Northeast Arc to clean classrooms and toys children play with. The event
was very successful and allowed NRHH to collaborate with another group on campus and get our name out there to possibly work with other organizations in
the future.
ROCK-A-THON
The Rock-a-thon will be held in early March and is an event that has been on campus for three years. The Rock-a-thon is an event that raises money for the
Vh1 Save the Music Foundation, which allows music programs in schools to be saved and kept in the curriculum. Last year we raised around $900 for VH1
Save the Music Campaign. This year we are hoping to top that amount!!
PREEMIE PLUNGE
The Preemie Plunge is a new service initiative that we had taken from Rhode Island College last year and have been planning since this past summer. We
have finalized our plans to host this program at Forest River Park a local park that is within walking distance from Salem State’s campus. This new initiative is
an event where participants jump into the ocean to raise money for chidren needing help at the Children’s Hospital in Boston. Our goal for this program is to
raise over $1000. We are collaborating with not only other groups and clubs on campus but the City of Salem as well.

Recognition
Omega Zeta Epsilon strives to recognize its members and groups on campus who are going beyond the expectations in improving the lives of those living on
campus. Every Tribute deserves recognition. Recognition empowers tributes to push through adversity and continue forward in the games. We believe that
recognition has the power to inspire leadership within those who feel that they are not a leader which is why we have several recognition projects.
Biweekly Recognition
Throughout the year, we create biweekly recognition projects to recognize individuals and departments that proved their greatness. As an organization, we
aspire to recognize those who hide behind the spotlight. A few departments that received a biweekly recognition project include: University Police, Shuttle
drivers, and the on campus Dunkin Donuts employees. These recognition projects highlight the hard work that these individuals have brought forth to the
Salem State community.
Swag
In January 2014, the members of Omega Zeta Epsilon received their first recognition since their induction: SWAG! We want to recognize the members of our
organization for the dedication to the four pillars; as such, we gave them swag so they can promote OZE to the rest of campus to inspire others to become
part of the top 1%.
ConGRATS
In Spring 2013, Omega Zeta Epsilon adopted the ConGRATS project from Northeastern’s NRHH as an initiative for “group recognition award for terrific service.” This project recognizes groups and clubs on campus that went above and beyond the expectations of the student population by creating programs for
the betterment of the Salem State Community. Several of the groups recognized include: Multicultural Student Organization, Weekend Warriors, ISA, ASA.
Members of OZE surprised these groups on campus with a handmade card and a platter of cookies at their meetings. ConGRATS proves to be a successful
recognition initiative as these groups deserve the praise that is sometimes missing.
Every member of OZE has the characteristics of a Tribute. We are warriors that represent each residence hall on campus and we all strive to work together to
recognize the hard work of all of those in the Salem State Community.

Omega Zeta Epsilon Chapter
of the National Residence Hall Honorary
at Salem State University
CONSTITUTION
(Revised February 2014-Effective May 4, 2014)
Article I: Name
This chapter of National Residence Hall Honorary shall be known as Omega Zeta Epsilon.
Article II: Affiliation
Omega Zeta Epsilon shall remain a fully affiliated chapter of NRHH.
Article III: Purpose
The purpose of this organization shall be to provide recognition for those students living in the residence halls of
Salem State University who have provided outstanding service, exceptional leadership, or extraordinary scholarship in
promoting the residence hall system by using the four pillars of leadership, scholastics, service, and recognition.
Article IV: Sponsorship
Omega Zeta Epsilon shall be sponsored by the Salem State University Residence Hall Association.
Article V: Membership
Section 1: Membership Requirements
A. Candidates for Omega Zeta Epsilon must have resided in the Salem State University residence halls for at least one
year prior to their active membership.
B. Candidates shall have exhibited outstanding leadership and service to the residence halls.
C. Candidates shall have a minimum grade point average of at least 2.75 on a 4.0 scale. Members inducted prior to
Fall 2014 must maintain a 2.5 on a 4.0 scale.
D. Candidates must be in good academic and judicial standing with Salem State University.
Section 2: Types of Membership
A. Active members of Omega Zeta Epsilon shall be defined as Salem State University students, residing in Salem State
University housing, who fulfill the above requirements and have been chosen by the Selection Committee to become
a member of Omega Zeta Epsilon
B. Honorary membership in Omega Zeta Epsilon is designed to recognize people including, but not limited to, housing
personnel, instructors, college or university staff and those who have demonstrated outstanding support and service
to the residence hall students. Individuals who could qualify for general membership, with the exception of graduating
seniors, cannot be inducted as an “honorary member.” The number of honorary members a chapter shall be able to
induct per academic year will not exceed ten percent of the chapter’s membership cap (i.e., if a chapter has membership cap of 50, it may induct up to 5 honorary members a year). These members do not count in the 1% cap.
C. Alumni/ae members of Omega Zeta Epsilon shall be defined as former active members, who have left Salem State
University or the Salem State University residence halls.
D. An Early Alumni member of Omega Zeta Epsilon is a member that is still living on campus but can no longer meet
the chapter membership expectations. These members do not count toward the 1% membership cap.
Section 3: Nomination of Members
A. Nominations may be submitted during the designated nomination period to be predetermined by the current
President. All nominations will be considered when a position on the active membership list is vacant.
B. Nominations must be made on the forms approved by the chapter.

C. Nominations may be made by:
1. Active Members of Omega Zeta Epsilon
2. Executive Officers of the Salem State University Residence Hall Association.
3. Residence Life personnel at Salem State University including, but not limited to Resident
Directors, Residence
Life Central Office staff, and student staff.
4. Self-nomination with noted recognition from one of the aforementioned positions.
Article VI: Selection of Members
A. The evaluation of nominees will be determined by the selection committee of Omega Zeta Epsilon.
B. The members of Omega Zeta Epsilon will meet to select new members during the fall and spring semester and as
deemed necessary throughout the year.
C. The active membership of Omega Zeta Epsilon shall not exceed 1% of the designed capacity of students in the residence halls or twenty members, whichever is greater.
Article VII: Executive Structures
Section 1: Selection of Officers
The officers of Omega Zeta Epsilon shall be selected by a majority vote of all members present at the last meeting of
Omega Zeta Epsilon in the Spring Semester.
Section 2: Officers & Duties
A. President of Omega Zeta Epsilon shall conduct and preside over meetings according to Roberts Rules of Order,
Revised. They are the National Representative to all National Residence Hall Honorary business meetings and events,
unless a proxy is appointed. The responsibilities of the National Representative shall be defined by the National Office
of the National Residence Hall Honorary. The president shall call meetings, delegate responsibilities and assigns tasks
at their discretion. They shall serve as the representative to the Residence Hall Association or appoint a designee(s).
They will hold at least two-office hour per week and write at least one OTM per month.
B. Recognition Chair of Omega Zeta Epsilon shall conduct and preside over all meetings in the absence of the President. They shall take the place of the President in the event that the position of the President becomes vacant in the
middle of the term. They shall preside over apparel planning, weekly recognition projects, OTM parties and any special awards determined each year. They will teach OTM education to various groups on campus, send out OTM thank
you cards. They will also be responsible for sending campus winners to the Regional Associate Director for NRHH on a
monthly basis. They will preside over the Recognition Committee. They will hold at least one office hour per week and
write at least one OTM per month.
C. Community Service Chair of Omega Zeta Epsilon shall preside over the required class community service projects
and coordinate the BetterWorldBook drive. They shall also preside over all other community service projects and
social/educational programs determined each year. They will copreside over the Community Service/ Induction Committee. They will hold at least one office hour per week and write at least one OTM per month.
D. Scholastics Chair of Omega Zeta Epsilon shall be responsible for creating and implementing tutoring programs
within the Salem Community. They shall be responsible for creating the Dean’s List for each residence hall. They will
be in charge of creating the recognition for residents making the Dean’s List. They will be in charge of the Pen Pals program. They will be in charge of any other Scholastics programs that are determined each year. They will preside over
the Scholastics Committee. They will hold at least one office hour per week and write at least one OTM per month.
E. Administration Chair of Omega Zeta Epsilon shall be responsible for taking minutes of meetings and prepare, with
the assistance of the other officers, all chapter reports as required by Article 9. The administration chair shall file of all
meeting minutes and agendas and be responsible for new inductees’ binders. They shall also be responsible for paying
chapter dues and be responsible for all monetary transactions associated with Omega Zeta Epsilon. They will hold at
least one office hour per week and write at least one OTM per month.

F. Advertising and Public Relations Chair of Omega Zeta Epsilon shall act as a liaison between Omega Zeta Epsilon
and its publics (students, faculty, organizations, residents of Salem, etc.). They will be responsible for the image of the
organization among its publics. They will be responsible for photography and video recording of events throughout the
academic year. They will keep social media accounts up-to-date with information and photos. They will be responsible
for any media contact with the organizations publics. In addition to public relations tasks, They will be responsible
for the advertising for the organization including flyers, brochures, and bulletin board information. They will also be responsible for communicating with and coordinating articles for the Salem State Log and Monthly Moose Calling. They
will hold at least one office hour per week and write at least one OTM per month.
G. Inductions and Membership Chair of Omega Zeta Epsilon shall be responsible for updating applications and membership lists. They will act as a liaison between current members and alumni. They will also be responsible for coordinating the inductions ceremony; including choosing the keynote speakers and any honorary inductees. They will also
manage the OZE listserv. They will copreside over the Community Service/ Inductions committee. They will hold at
least one office hour per week and write at least one OTM per month.
Section 3: Terms of Office
A. The term of office for the executive offices of Omega Zeta Epsilon shall be one year beginning and ending at Spring
Inductions.
B. If a Chair on the Omega Zeta Epsilon Executive Board becomes vacant during the semester, it will be the discretion
of the Executive Board and advisor whether to fill it immediate with a member of Omega Zeta Epsilon, or leave the
position vacant until the end of the semester.
Section 4: Impeachment Process
Member of the Executive Board may be removed from office through an impeachment process. An official request
to begin the impeachment process, along with the reasons behind the request, must be submitted to the NRHH
President along with 3 signatures of active NRHH members. The impacted Executive Board member must be notified
one week in advance of the meeting where the letter will be considered, and must be provided a copy of the official
request. At the meeting, the individuals bringing the impeachment request forward will present their rationale, and
the Executive Board member will be provided the opportunity to defend their actions. Members in attendance will
conduct a secret-ballot vote, and 2/3 vote will be required in the affirmative to impeach the Executive Board member.
Section 5: Advisor
A.
The advisor for each year shall be chosen by the incoming executive board prior to the new academic calendar
year.
B.
The advisor shall be someone in Residence Life who has experience with NRHH in the past or has worked with
Salem State Residence Life for at least one year.
Article VIII: National Dues
Omega Zeta Epsilon will pay the required dues in conjunction with any affiliation requirements as outlined per year to
the NACURH Information Center in order to remain an affiliated organization.
Article IX: Chapter Reports
As mandated by the NACURH Information Center, Omega Zeta Epsilon shall submit to the NACURH Information Center a list of new members, the names of officers, the name of an advisor, a copy of a revised constitution (if amendments were made), a re-affiliation forms, membership dues, and any other pertinent information as requested by the
NACURH Information Center.
Article X: Amendments
Amendments to the Omega Zeta Epsilon Constitution must be approved by a two-thirds vote of its active members.

Game Budget
July 19, 2012
To the Residence Hall Association Executive Board,
First, I would like to thank you for considering the Omega Zeta Epsilon chapter’s request for funding for the 2013-2014
academic year. We are excited at the opportunity to continue growing and expanding our efforts on campus. When
the incoming executive board met to discuss goals for the organization, it was clear that there were high expectations
of what we would like this year to look like. This includes maintaining general member involvement and continuing to
increase our invisibility on campus. For the 2013-2014 academic year, we are proposing an allotment of $7,732.
This upcoming year we plan to conduct and participate in numerous Days of Service inviting the whole University
community to participate. We plan to continue our newest initiatives such as a fall induction with a full luncheon, as
well events that we sponsor such as the “Of the Month” (OTM) process and parties, and weekly recognition efforts
to various offices and services on campus. There are only a few increases you will notice below. These are due to our
goals for this upcoming year. We are creating new initiatives to better serve our community. Also we are focusing now
on all four of our pillars instead of forgetting about one. In order to better serve our residential student body we want
to increase our amount of community service and gain more involvement by initiating service Saturdays once a month
rotating through each residence hall. These funds will assist in laying the foundation for the success of the Omega Zeta
Epsilon chapter this upcoming year.

Our budget reflects $3.87 per resident. This is a $1.35 increase from the previous year, but will allow for NRHH to

National Residence Hall Honorary (NRHH) serves to recognize the contributions that students make to their college or

member of NRHH at any one time. NRHH members are inducted for life, and serve as role models within their communities for emerging leaders looking to have a positive impact on their residence hall environments.
