2015 Welcome Letter
Distinguished members of the press,
Hot August Nights has played an important part in the lives of locals
and visiting car-enthusiasts for 28 years now. As we prepare for our
29th year, the incredible entertainment, beautiful cars, and
consistent growth of previous years leave quite a legacy.
After my five years as Executive Director of Hot August Nights, it's
unquestionable that it's had an amazing impact on my own life.
Nothing makes me prouder than seeing northern Nevada’s streets
filled with classic cars and lined with smiling faces during the event
and knowing that my team and I helped bring everyone in the
car-loving community together. It is with a heavy heart but
considerable hope for the future that I make 2015 my last year
running this event and pass the torch to my successor, Mike Whan.
I want to personally thank you, members of the media, for always
giving this event the coverage it deserves. You've helped us grow
Hot August Nights and its great reputation for years, and we simply
could not have done it without you.
Your continued support is greatly appreciated in making 2015
another fantastic event.
Thank you,
Tony Marini
Event Overview
From the moment you hear that first engine roar to life, you're hooked. Excitement revs up,
and the love affair red-lines. The Biggest Little City shifts into high gear for Hot August
Nights, when hundreds of thousands come to pay tribute to the exquisitely powerful
automobiles and electric-guitars lacing music of the '50s, '60s and early '70s—a
combination so classic it may as well come with a poodle skirt and strawberry malt to share
with your sweetheart.
The world's premier classic car event, Hot August Nights showcases more than 6,000
vehicles from this golden era of design at events all over Reno, Sparks and Virginia City. It's
impossible to miss the white-walled tires, fins, flares and chrome accents cruising the
streets or parked, ready to be admired at Show-n-Shines, free concerts, nightly cruises,
Drag Races & Burnouts, AutoCross and many other community events.
Visitors from all over the world and locals alike thrill at the sight of these beautiful beasts
revving up, racing and high rollin' about town. From the Big Boy's Toy Store—a massive
event where enthusiasts can find the latest parts, accessories, and technology for their
street rods, hot rods and muscle cars—to the third annual Barrett-Jackson Cup™—a
Show-n-Shine classic car competition with over $100,000 in cash prizes available—it's a
motorhead's dream.
Nothing goes with classic rods better than classic rock 'n' roll, and this year's event has it in
spades. Ride the curl with Grammy-nominated Papa Doo Run Run's surf tunes, put the bop
in the bop shoo bop shoo bop with Lil’ Elmo and the Cosmos, and get ready to turn back
time with Billboard chart-toppers Blood, Sweat & Tears; Hotel California "A Salute to the
Eagles;" Paperback Writer “The Beatles Experience;” Sonny Turner’s Platters; Peter Noone’s
Herman’s Hermits and more. These events and many others are free, open to the public and
not to be missed.
Hot August Nights gets bigger and better every year, and with only one left to go before
we turn 30, this year promises to be quite the blowout. Join the party, and be a part of this
internationally-renowned event as Reno and Sparks play host to some of the planet's
hottest rods, best tunes and happiest classic car fans you'll ever see.

Barrett-Jackson Cup
For the third consecutive year, Hot August Nights, Barrett-Jackson, The World's Greatest
Collector Car Auctions®, and Reno’s downtown properties are teaming up for the
Barrett-Jackson Cup™ offering more than $100,000 in cash and prizes, and making it the
largest prize purse of any collector car competition in the world.
The Barrett-Jackson Cup brings out the cream of the classic car crop every year to compete
in a three-day Show-n-Shine during Hot August Nights. Renowned judges, including Bobby
Alloway, Pete Chapouris and Bob Millard, will pick a total of 25 cars from the “Barrett-Jackson
Cup Show-n-Shine,” Aug. 5—7 from 4th Street in downtown Reno. Differing from years past,
all 25 cars will be brought to the auction site at the Reno-Sparks Convention Center on
Saturday, where they will be displayed for final judging. The top five finalists, also known as
the “Reno Five, will be announced from the block at the close of auction. The Ultimate Best of
Show winner will then be awarded the coveted Barrett-Jackson Cup.
This event showcases some of the region's—and the world's—most exquisitely restored and
maintained vintage vehicles. It's a must-see for car enthusiasts and lovers of design alike, and
there's nothing like seeing these beauties in person. Don't miss it.
