September SVTN Net Report
Missed the LMARS Meeting?
Yet another record month for the Seminole VHF Traffic Net,
logging 603 check-ins and 42 messages. All of this just
inside of 565 minutes. As far as I can remember this is
about as good as it has ever been, thanks to all of the
amateur radio operators taking a few minutes of the day to
log in to the net. Thank you so very, very much.
If you missed the LMARS meeting, or even if you were
there, check out http://www.hamradio.world/
Brought to you by the Lea Family.
We have many new folks checking into the net as well as
our old standbys. It takes both to grow the net and allow it
to teach by example. Our biggest challenge right now is
learning how to not “double” with each other during the
check in period. From experience it should seem that
waiting just a couple of seconds is a wise idea rather than to
push the talk button as quickly as possible when check-ins
are called. We’ll all get better at it with experience. And
the experience will help you deal with other nets you may
want to join in the future or during an emergency situation.
Thanks to Ben ARS W4QED for bringing this to our
attention.
Some nets have very formal check in procedures. Some
actually call for stations by geographical area. Others have
a list of registered members and call for check in by call
signs. There are lots of ways of organizing the check-in
process. We may consider some as the future brings more
participation so that we can get to the traffic more quickly
and get back to doing other things. Stay tuned.

Again, thank you all for your participation. Please join us
any evening at 7:15PM Local Time currently on the 147.090
Repeater (standard+600 offset and 103.5 tone).

The VoIP SKYWARN/Hurricane Net (VoIPWX) attracted a
number of visitors, according to net managers. "On
board Saturday afternoon, in addition to WX4NHC at the
National Hurricane Center, stations representing a num
ber of FEMA regional offices and the National Response
Coordination Center monitored the net for actionable
intelligence to be used to plan recovery operations," said
net Public Affairs Officer Lloyd Colston, KC5FM. The net
also activated on October 3.
