Dear Friends,
San Juan Diego Catholic High School (SJDCHS) is celebrating ten years of providing
outstanding, Catholic, college preparatory education. I am pleased to present this Annual
Report with a summary of the school’s progress throughout the years.
10 FACTS TO KNOW ABOUT SJDCHS
 SJDCHS was founded in Austin in 2002. The Diocese of Austin, led by Bishop
Vásquez, provides tremendous support to SJDCHS.
 SJDCHS is the only school of its kind in Texas—a Diocesan, Catholic, college
preparatory high school with a Corporate Work Study Program (CWSP). 100%
of students participate in CWSP, which provides students with four years of
professional experience and future career possibilities.
 100% of SJDCHS students receive college acceptances. This year, 85% of the senior
class will be first generation college graduates.
 SJDCHS opened an eighth grade academy this year to assimilate students into the rigors of the college preparatory
curriculum. Over 95% of the eighth graders will matriculate into the high school for the 2012-13 school year.
 Since its opening in 2002, SJDCHS is serving its highest percentage of families in need, with 67% of current families
qualifying for free/reduced lunch. SJDCHS is still committed to serving ANY family, regardless of race, religion or
socioeconomic status.
 SJDCHS raises over $700,000 annually in order to continue serving all of those who otherwise would not have access
to this extraordinary high school program.
 Sound financial management and a strong development program enable SJDCHS to maintain financial stability.
Corporate sponsors, individual donors, and over 35 foundations have contributed to SJDCHS.
 84% of SJDCHS students are Hispanic and 60% of the student body comes from public schools.
 SJDCHS attracts and retains outstanding teachers and staff, 61% of whom have master’s degrees.
 SJDCHS recently established an alumni association with its 200+ alumni. Alumni give back to the SJDCHS community
professionally and through volunteering.

HISTORY
Archbishop Gregory Aymond recognized the acute need for
Catholic college preparatory education in Austin, Texas and
opened San Juan Diego Catholic High School (SJDCHS) in August
2002. SJDCHS is modeled after Cristo Rey Jesuit High School in
Chicago, and is commonly known as “The School That Works!” To
date, the school has graduated seven classes of students.
CORPORATE WORK STUDY PROGRAM (CWSP)
The CWSP of SJDCHS provides students with professional
experience and subsequent career possibilities while offering the
opportunity to earn part of the tuition for their college preparatory
education. Each student is part of a team of four students who share a
full-time, entry-level position in the corporate world. Every student
works five eight-hour days per month. They develop practical job
skills and experience in a variety of industries, including law, health
care, technology, education, real estate, finance and non-profit
services. Students are formally reviewed on their performance
four times per year. In addition, students are supported in the
program through an intensive summer training program and
personal coaching administered by CWSP staff. Teamwork,
time management, personal responsibility, organizational skills,
computer applications, written and verbal communications, and
basic business concepts are integral components of the learning
experience provided by this program.

San Juan Diego Catholic High School (SJDCHS) received full
accreditation from the Texas Catholic Conference Education
Department (TCCED) in 2010. The TCCED is assisted by the Texas
Catholic Conference Accreditation Commission and is part of the
state-approved Texas Private School Accreditation Commission.
SJDCHS is a member of the Texas Association of Private and
Parochial Schools, the National Catholic Education Association,
the Texas Association for College Admission Counseling, and The
College Board. The school is also represented on the board of the
National Catholic College Admission Association.
DIPLOMA
All students of San Juan Diego Catholic High School fulfill
requirements for the Distinguished Achievement diploma (30
credits) of the Texas Catholic Conference Education Department.
