CAPTAIN’S CABIN
BEST FOOT
FORWARD
K
rishnapatnam Port always
believes in putting its best foot
forward in every endeavour it
takes up. The port has been proudly
involved in various poignant stances,
starting from developmental activities
at the port to serving the community.
Krishnapatnam Port has always been
in the forefront for being unique and
innovative in its initiatives to bring
refreshing advancements to the port
and its surroundings.
One of the novel undertakings of the
port this year was the inauguration of
the CVR Links by Shri Suresh Prabhakar Prabhu, the Hon’ble Minister of
Railways,and Shri M. Venkaiah Naidu,
the Hon’ble Union Minister for Urban
Development, Housing & Poverty Alleviation, and Information & Broadcasting,
on 24th July, 2016. The CVR Links is
an 18 holes links golf course connected with the sea, making it the first
of its kind in India. This golf course is
modelled after the world famous St.
Andrews Golf Course and is completely
a class apart from all other golf courses and all other ports in the nation.
CVR Links is a symbol of the merging
of two passions of our M.D, Shri C.
Sasidhar, his business prospects and
his passion for golf. This golf course is
a platform for ensuring long and wellfounded relationship between the port
and its associates and clientele. This
initiative is a step forward in ensuring
the establishment of friendly relations
among all customers and also bringing
together every person under one roof,
for their fervour for golf.
Another great achievement accomplished by Krishnapatnam Port was
the inauguration of the CONCOR’s Port
Side Container Facility on the same
day as the CVR Links. The CONCOR
(Container Corporation of India Limited) is a market pioneer in providing
containerized logistics services for export/import and domestic businesses.
The CONCOR has signed an MOU
(Memorandum of Understanding) with
the government of Andhra Pradesh
to develop Multi Modal Logistics
Parks (MMLPs) at the locations of
Vishakhapatnam, Krishnapatnam and
Kakinada. The Port Side Container Facility was inaugurated by Shri Suresh
Prabhakar Prabhu, the Hon’ble Minister
of Railways and Shri M. Venkaiah
Naidu, the Hon’ble Union Minister for
Urban Development, Housing & Poverty
Alleviation, and Information & Broadcasting. The occasion was also graced
by the presence of several concor and
other government officials. The inauguration of this facility at Krishnapatnam
Port was like a boon for the port and
its customers as this initiative will help
to promote trade and industrial growth
in the region, along with expansion
and growth of the port. This additional
container facility will also help to maintain the quality and safety of the cargo
and ensure swifter movement of cargo
from port to the destination.
The two events that has set all new
standards for the port also helps to
place new benchmarks in the maritime
business and makes Krishnapatnam
Port a forum of opportunities and
surprises. With the CVR Links course
and the CONCOR, the port has opened
to the world a whole new array of
avenues of exploring and expanding, to
wade through the waves of success in
the port, and beyond.
Best wishes,
ANIL YENDLURI

KOLOS:
A BREAKTHROUGH
IN ARMOUR
BLOCKS
Navayuga Engineering
Part of CVR Group, made
structural innovation by
creating a stable and
strong armour block which
has won patent.
T
he Navayuga Group is a multidimensional corporate organization, with a diverse portfolio under
its canopy such as infrastructure
development in roads, bridges, metro rails,
marine works, IT/ITES companies, ports,
power plants, steel etc. Besides various
port projects, the group is poised to embark on building of more ports on the east
coast, thereby elevating itself to becoming a ‘Port Specialist’ - the one of kind
enterprise in the country. It has already
established grounds for its cutting –
edge breakthrough in structural innovation, by establishing new kind of armour
blocks called Kolos, for which it has been
awarded a patent.
Breakwaters are constructed in the sea to
dissipate the energy of oncoming waves,
so that the waters in the basin in the lee
of the structure are tranquil, to further enable a smooth, swift and hassle-free vessel operations of loading and unloading
of cargoes increasing the efficiency with
which the port activities are carried out.
Navayuga Engineering Company developed the new type of armour block called
Kolos. According to the initial results, its
stability is considered the highest in the
world. The methodology adopted is to
pulverize the wave energy and send it in
various directions. Efficiency of the block
is generally characterized by its Hudson’s
stability number or KD value. The block
has excellent interlocking characteristics,
which means it doesn’t act individually
but are locked together due to the advantage of its shape. Hudson’s formula is
used world wide for measuring the weight
of the armour block required for a particu-
lar wave and breakwater scenario.
The designing of Kolos involved intense
research structural in engineering and
were tested for strength and durability
by IIT Madras. The Navayuga Group was
granted the Patent for the invention entitled as Armour Block for Breakwater and
Coastal Protection, for a span of 20 years.
The construction of Kolos has been
conceptualized by incorporating structural
transformations and improvements into the
already existing armor units called Dolos.
The commencement of the construction of
the Kolos was majorly due to the structural
flaws of the Dolos. By the establishment
of the Kolos, the shank length has been
considerably reduced by 21.4%, thus the
material can be used to compensate for the
thickness of the legs of the Kolos.
At Krishnapatnam Port, both the Southern Breakwater of 2kms and the Northern Breakwater of 1.5kms is randomly
wizened in two layers of Kolos. A damage
level of 0.5% is allowable in the design of
the Kolos armor layer without inflicting
damage to the under layers of the breakwaters. A single Kolos can weigh from
1.5 – 12 tons each.
The Kolos helped to shield the breakwaters of krishnapatnam port from the
devastating cyclones that had hit the
shores of Nellore. These armour blocks
were used for both the breakwaters of
Krihsnapatnam Port. They were also used
in the construction of breakwaters for the
cooling water intake for the APGENCO
power plant at Nellore.

locations, with the assistance of the port EHS
Department.
This only showcases and evidences how the port and its employees are
deeply passionate and serious towards
the cause and so well aligned to a common goal of making Krishnapatnam Port
a ‘garden port’.
T
he celebration of the
Vana Mahotsav was initiated in the year 1950 by
the then Union Minister
of Agriculture, Kulapati Dr. K M
Munshi. This occasion is always
celebrated in the month of July,
which is the month for the onset of
monsoons. This initiative on the part
of the government was not only to
ensure a better and cleaner tomorrow,
but also to inspire and motivate thousands of others to plant more trees.
Following the footsteps of the leaders
of the nation and aligning to its vision
of being a green port, Krishnapatnam
Port has taken up this initiative as a
part of its Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR), of giving back to the
community, environment with a focus
of creating sustainable ecosystems.
This particular Green Drive promoted
and encouraged by the port plays an
important role in not only conserving
the bionetwork of the region but also
to sensitize the people regarding
the importance of keeping and protecting our environment. The port
has always believed in providing a
safe, a secure work and living atmosphere
to all who are under its vast canopy.
Bearing this in mind, the celebrations of
the 67th Vana Mahotsavam commenced
in and around Krishnapatnam Port, from
29th July, 2016.
With an aim of planting 1 lakh saplings
during the event, the port has outdone
One of the major establishments of the
port under the Vana Mahotsavam Program has been the setting up of nurseries. The port has successfully put up 3
nurseries in the area adjoining the port,
with a total capacity of 20 lakh saplings/
year. The Krishnapatnam horticultures
provide sapling to Krishnapatnam Port,
the surrounding villages, NGOs and the
Nellore town.
Krishnapatnam Port has been successful
in bringing under this programme many
people residing in the villages, near the
port and also motivated them to join
the port in the plantation activity. The
villagers were also given fruit trees to be
planted around their houses.
The port has also undertaken the project
to set a green belt along the roads that
run from the port’s entrance to Venkatachalam, connecting the National
Highway, medians, traffic islands, government buildings, towns like Nellore and
many more. The entire plantation drive
along the roadways is being provided
with tree guards to sustain the trees for a
longer time. The port is not only providing protection to the existing mangroves
but also developing new ones. 50 acres
of specified land of the port has been utilized for this purpose. Fish bone channels
have also been dug up to provide tidal
water and organic matter to flow into the
low lying areas, to ensure the survival of
the mangroves.

Government ministers, Customers, business houses, Sports stars, Celebrities and
many such eminent figures visiting the
port are made a vital part of this initiative.
Every delegate is welcomed and invited to
plant a sapling on their name. Exclusive
gardens have been set up for delegates
like the Japanese Garden for the Japanese Delegates, The Andhra Pradesh
government MLAs and MLCs have been
allotted gardens as separate districts
in the state, called the Telegu Vanam. A
beautiful garden, with a fountain has also
been developed along the Buckingham
Canal, called the Kalam Garden, with the
statue of the Late Former President APJ
Abdul Kalam, in the centre of the garden.
The Statutory Officials like the APPCB,
MoEF, Defence, Forest Department, Irrigation Department, Customs etc, also plant
saplings during their visits to the port.
the Customs department has established
their own garden, called the Customs
Garden. The customers who visit the port
are also encouraged to plant saplings and
be a part of this Green Drive. One of the
important participants of this drive are
school students. These students are from
the schools set up by the CVRF and these
children have shown great enthusiasm
and energy in planting saplings in and
around their schools and localities. Regu-
lar awareness programs
are conducted for
students teaching them
the importance of the preserving
the ecosystem, by planting trees.
The port, since its inception, has been
keenly taking part in ensuring a safe and
sustainable environment. The port has always emphasized on the vitality of maintaining a clean and green atmosphere,
by engaging in activities like increasing the green belt around the port area,
the usage of renewables, non-polluting
energy sources, wherever possible and
also setting up sprinkler systems – Atomizers, first of its kind - an advanced mist
sprayers that controls and subsides the
amount of Suspended Particulate Matter
(SPM), in the air, along with the conservation of the mangroves in the region.
Krishnapatnam Port has set a target of
planting 10 million trees and saplings in
the vicinity of the port and has already
been successful in planting 2.8 million, till
date. This Green Drive will help decrease
the existing temperatures by 2-3 degree
Celsius, and will also set a good example
to the many industries around the port, to
be a part of this great endeavour.
Through this Green Drive, the port not
only helps establish a sustainable and
healthy environment but also brings the
entire community to work for the cause
of saving and conserving the region’s
biodiversity.

K
rishnapatnam Port is a modern,
high-productivity, deep water
port, founded on the Build, Operate, Share and Transfer (BOST)
concession, for 50 years. The port was
opened to the world on 17th July, 2008,
after the completion of the 1st phase, in
a record time of 18 months. The opening
up of the port was a huge turning point,
not only in the development of the region
around the port, but also in contributing
to the growth and development of the
economy of the country.
12 PORTFOLIO / SEPTEMBER 2016
The port has, from its inception, been
handling various types of cargoes including coal, edible oil, gypsum, fertilizers and
many more. The port has very recently
also been successful in handling project
cargo. Project cargo is a special type of
cargo, most often of odd sizes. Project
cargoes mostly include machinery or
parts of big equipments, building and
construction materials like pipes, cranes
and even complete roofs. Project cargoes
also can refer to different equipages used
in energy plants, like turbines or rotor
blades for generation of wind energy. This
type of cargo is always of great value.
Because of its sheer size and value, the
handling of project cargo becomes that
much more risky and precarious. Thus,
project cargoes require a very careful
and proficient handling, with the use of
specialized transporters, heavy lift cranes
and special terminals. At present, the
Krishnapatnam Port is very well-equipped
to handle project cargoes of all types. The
port is full of advantageous prospects
such as its strategic location, which helps
in the easy import and export of such
huge cargo, good network of roadways
and railways to ensure safe and swift
transportation, the port also has a huge
land base at its disposal. The port is
also an all weather port, thus ensuring
continued services, all throughout the
year. At present, the port has 10 berths,
out of which one is completely dedicated
to handle Over Dimensional Project Cargo
(ODC), with a load bearing capacity of
12 MT /sq. Mtrs, which is the highest for
any berth, in any port in India. Various
equipments have also been installed in
the port for handling such massive cargo,

spread across a huge area, according to
the needs of the customers. Along with
the highest load bearing capacity berths,
advanced infrastructure and well maintained and safe storage place, the port
has facilitated for well built roads for the
transportation of such heavy cargo, in and
out of the port. The well spaced and broad
roads are a convenience for transportation of not only the project cargo but also
for easy movement of other cargoes and
trucks, in and out of the port. Alongside
all these developed and best in class
infrastructure, the port also provides the
highest degree of customer satisfaction.
The entire operation of import or export
is completely looked after by the efficient
and able professionals at the port, who
provide all kinds of assistance to the
customers for a hassle-free handling.
Starting from the customs to the delivery
of the cargo to its appropriate destination,
in case of imports, and from the clearance
of all formalities to the shipping off of
the cargo, in case of exports, is all taken
care of by the port personnel. APGENCO
is one of the clients who has imported
their single largest piece of cargo (heavy
machinery), weighing 407 MT. It was
directly unloaded onto the trailers, using
port shore cranes.
The port has a huge number of clientele
who are highly satisfied with the expertise
and the safety adopted by those who
handle project cargo, and are constantly
patronising the port.
Thus, we see how Krishnapatnam port is
an essential avenue to undertake several
more project cargoes, with its array of
beneficial facilities, world class infrastructure, customer friendly services and
efficient handling of the cargo. The port
has the swiftest turnaround time, which
makes the entire operation highly cost
effective and also saves on a lot of time.
The handling of project cargoes will give
the port a huge opportunity to expand and
explore its strengths and also to enable a
sustainable and progressive growth and

he V.V.I.P visit of the eminent media persons of the District level,
to Krishnapatnam Port was a very
important event as it marked the
introduction of the port to all the media
personnels, on a first hand basis. The
event was housed in the Conference Hall
of the Daspalla Hotel. We had approximately 100 people participating in the
event, with representatives from different
local newspapers and media houses, accompanied by their families.
The event was kick-started at 10.30am
with the arrival of the guests, followed
by a detailed introduction of the party to
Krishnapatnam Port with the help of a
PPT, presented by a member of the CR
Team. The presentation provided a wide
and circumstantiated perspective about
the port and its activities to all who were
present. The occasion was then graced
by the welcome speech given by the CEO
of Krishnapatnam Port, Mr. Anil Yendluri,
who further threw light on the vast prospects and achievements of the port. He
also highlighted how the port is not only
functional as one of the most progressive private sector ports but how it aims
at making the region one of the most
advanced regions in the nation. After the
welcome speech, one of the guests of
the party was called upon to share his
experience of being associated with the
port. This was ensued by an open house
discussion with various proposals made
from the audience. The audience actively
participated in asking the CEO regarding employment opportunities provided
by the port and the upcoming projects of
the port. The audience was also keen on
proposing the inclusion of a journalism
related course as a part of the skill building program under the Krishnapatnam
Port. The recommendation to continue
the Green Drive adopted by the port, even
outside the port premises and also the
spreading of awareness about the port to
people in Nellore town and the adjoining
districts, was made by the guests. The
guests also took this opportunity to con-
gratulate the CEO and the team of Krishnapatnam Port, on the remarkable job
that was being done. In the open house
discussion we saw Mr. Anil Yendluri say,
“Growth can be of two types. Growth with
jobs and growth without jobs.” Through
this, Mr. Anil Yendluri emphasized that
the port believes in growth with jobs and
thus various avenues for the generation of
jobs, is being set up by the port. He further
spoke about how the sectors of tourism,
hospitality and the setting up of power
plants can help engender more opportunities for employment. He also mentioned
the prospects of the port to establish
Imported Timber Processing Zone in the
vicinity of the port along with the setting
up of cashew industry. Both these future
enterprises of the port will not only help
to train the local people in the specific
trade but will also provide an opportunity for getting jobs, and bettering their
livelihoods. The CEO also mentioned the
innumerable initiatives taken by the port
to promote quality education through the
Navaneeta Public School and also provide
many skill development programs through
the institutes of tailoring, Navayatha, fire
and industrial safety training, welding, security and driving training programs. The
port also has plans for setting up training
programs dealing with solar technology.
After all the dignitaries had their lunch,
they were taken on a tour around the port.
All the guests were shown the berths of
the vessels and were also taken for a boat
ride, till the breakwaters of the port, and
back. The dignitaries were also made part
of the Vanam Manam program of the port,
and each of the guests very eagerly took
part in planting saplings for the Green
Drive. The CVR Building followed by the
R & R Colony was their next stop.
The main objective of this meet was to
bring the various representatives of the
media sources together, under one roof,
and make them aware of the activities that the port indulges in, along with
making them aware of the port itself. The
participation of all these eminent media
personnels in the plantation of saplings
in the port made the occasion even more
special and memorable and also helped
to make all aware of the huge initiative
taken by Krishnapatnam Port, to make the
port the first ‘Green Port’ in the world and
strongly establishing the CSR Initiative in
the minds and hearts of many.

INFRASTRUCTURE RAIL SERVICE
LAUNCH OF BI-WEEKLY
HOT CONNECTION BETWEEN
BENGALURU AND KPCT
RAIL SERVICE
This hot connection is fastest for import clearance and also
significantly reduces transit time for exports
C
ontainer Corporation of India Limited (CONCOR) – a Government
of India Undertaking, has commenced rake service (two rakes
per week) from ICD Bangalore to KPCT
and is thereby providing hot connection to
the Vessel for exports from Bengaluru and
also the fastest connection for imports
clearance into Bengaluru.
The service which is currently live will run
2 rakes per week from ICD Whitefield to
Krishnapatnam, catering to the intense
demand from business houses in and
around Bengaluru.
The initiative has been strategically put in
place to enable shippers and consignees
in and around Bengaluru to avail a safer,
reliable and time-efficient alternative to
road movement.
On every trip, the train transports 80
containers - in other words, 80 huge trailer
trucks are removed from the roads to
Chennai.
Speaking on this Concor group general
manager Dr. Anup Dayanand Sadhu said,
“With the exclusive rail rake, we will
be sending cargo every Tuesdays and
Fridays. In fact, for the first two trips (on
April 15 and April 19) we were overbooked, with both the rakes going full. The
rake takes the less-congested route via
Gudur.”
The service has scheduled an export

and Friday and an import departure from
Krishnapatnam on every Wednesday and

cantly reduced the transit time of export
commodities. With this Service, CONCOR
is providing very attractive train connections with the transit time of just 16 to
20 hrs from Bangalore to KPCT for the
shuttle connection and the same vice
versa. The connectivity has carried a total
of 106 TEU and 117 TEU of exports and
imports respectively to and from Bengaluru. Stating that the ICD in Whitefield is the
largest dry port in the country, Mr. Sadhu
Dr. Anup Dayanand Sadhu, Group General Manager,
CONCOR addressing the gathering
from CONCOR said, “It has a full-fledged
customs clearance unit and handles
cargo bound towards the east coast of
the US, Saudi Arabia and Europe.” He said
till now, cargo was being sent from Bengaluru to Chennai port through container
trucks. But off late, there had been a lot of
congestion at the Chennai port as well as
the city.
“There are complaints from
exporters and importers in
Bengaluru that the containers
do not make it to the ships at
Chennai port on time or reach
Bengaluru in time. The break
in linkage has been costing
the exporters and importers a
lot of money,” he said. According to the Union government,
Chennai port handled 37.41
million tons of cargo between
April and December 2015, and
the greatest concern was the
increasing container volume at
the harbour.
It was in this backdrop that shipping
companies started looking at the upcoming Krishnapatnam port, which is 180 km
away from Chennai. Exim trade saw an
interesting change when Maersk, one of
the major international shipping players,
got an exclusive line at the port with connection to the port of Salalah in Oman.
He also added that the consignments
reached Krishnapatnam port in 10
hours’ time (covering a distance of 486
km). From there, the consignments got
attached to cargo ships and reached
Salalah within five days. “In all, a consignment bound for Europe from Bengaluru

the rakes return to Bengaluru within 24

The newly launched service will immensely benefit the heavy cargoes which
otherwise face regulatory issues due to
the weight restrictions via road transport.
The move has brought cheers to nearly
150 export houses in Bengaluru, the
catchment area of which is around 200 km
in radius and includes consignments from
Hosur, Ramanagara and Chikmagalur.
The service which is expected to meet the
best standards in terms of time and cost
rendering a congestion free dedicated
cargo facility, has been availed and applauded by many of its customers which
includes Volvo, Toyota, Synthetic Packers,
Schenker India, DHL Logistics, ABB India
and Aditya Birla among others.
In addition to reliability and time efficiency,
this is also expected to help the customers
to save on each container and also eliminate the chances of pilferage, which has
been a major issue in case of road transits.

T
he Indian Maritime history dates
back to the 3rd millennium BC.
Our nation has proudly shared
a long and prosperous trading
relation with all other nations globally.
Around three decades ago we saw how
the Government of India owned and controlled 12 major ports on both the eastern
and western coast region have become
the gateways to the world. But post
globalization changed the entire scenario
of the port world that brought dramatic
changes. Encouraging investments in the
early 1990s, for promotion and growth
of the ports, the Government of India
decided to employ the Public-Private Partnership (PPP) model in the port sector.
One remarkable feat in the port sector,
was the Maritime India Summit, which
was organized for the first time from
14-15th April, 2016, just after the celebrations of the National Maritime Day in India
on 5th April, in Mumbai. This Summit did
not only result in business agreements
worth Rs. 82,905 Cr, but also was instrumental in bringing to the forefront the major role played by ports to ensure faster
and sustainable economic growth. The
National Perspective Plan of the Sagarmala Project, released by the Honourable
Prime Minister, Sri Narendra Modi, on 14th
of April, greatly emphasized the seriousness of the government in promoting and
encouraging port led infrastructural development. The Summit provided a varied
platform for integration, interaction and
participation for 42 countries worldwide,
with more than 5000 participants from
around the globe. The two-day exhibition
was a highlight and drew enthusiastic
response from 192 exhibitors, including
81 International Companies, 80 Indian Private Sector organizations and 36 Government owned organizations. The thematic
sessions brought into focus the Maritime
Nations and the global nature of the shipping industry and the significance of cooperation and collaboration between the
different Maritime Nations. The Summit
also included sectoral seminars shedding
light on various aspects like ship building, ship repair, skill development through
maritime education, waterways development, cruise shipping, fisheries development and maritime security. An exclusive
C.E.Os Forum of eminent leaders of the
industry was organized to deliberate and
discuss on the potential and growth opportunity of the Indian Maritime Sector. It
also saw the active and pivotal role played
by Hon’ble Union Shipping Minister, Nitin
Gadkari who was highly instrumental in
ensuring around 100 foreign delegates
to invest in the port sector in India. The
Summit showcased around 240 projects
that portray various lucrative investment
opportunities over the next 5 years. The
investment potential of all these projects
is 66 billion $. The Ministry of Shipping, in
an attempt to make these projects and investments realized in the near future, has
gone a step forward and established the
Investment Facilitation Cell in the Indian
Ports Association. The Krishnapatnam

planned to be set up in the state and
assured potential investors for a hasslefree administrative process. It was a one
of its kind experience for all the delegates
of the container liner industries as the
Chief Minister met each of them on a oneto-one basis, seeking an understanding of
the requirements of the liner industries, to

in Andhra Pradesh.
The major attendees of the Summit included the Maersk Line, APMT, MSC, SCI,

The Maritime India Summit was resounding success in not only strengthening
the bonds of friendship and co-operation
among all the ports in India, but was
equally functional in promoting ties of collaboration and the spirit of soaring higher
and innovative spheres of development
and prosperity. The Summit has provided
a fruitful opportunity to all ports to work
in unison to help each other grow and
develop towards being the best not only
individually but also to promote an overall
development of the Maritime sector in India forging stronger ties with the maritime
fraternity across the globe.

Ease of Doing Business (EDB) includes
various parameters that define how easy
it is to perform business in a country. EDB
ranking indicates the conduciveness of
starting and operating a firm in a regulatory environment. Promoting ease of doing business has been at the core of the
efforts of the Govt of various countries
with a futuristic vision. For India, focus
has been to move from rank 130 to 50 on
the global EDB scale. Indian government,
on its part, has been working to eliminate
archaic rules, redundant procedures and
simplify procedures to facilitate hasslefree business.

industry play a vital role in the growth sustainability of the nation. India, being the
6th largest maritime country in the world
with 7500kms of coastline, has tremendous amount of opportunity.
At KPCL power plants and edible oil
clusters have been established Ministry of
Shipping, India’s cargo volume is estimated to increase to the 2 billion tons mark in
the FYI 2016-17, and 2.4 billion tons in the
FYI 2019-20.
Following the polices directed towards
the implemantation of the EDB initiative
in India, Krishnapatnam Port has gone a
step further in modifying and establishing
its own EDB policy, in the operations of
the port. The first and foremost aspect of
any port operations commences only after one enters the port premises. Initially,
the procedure that existed for permitting
visitors, customers, industrial representatives and such dignitaries, was a hectic
and cumbersome affair. All entries were
done manually that was time consuming
activity. All matters of entry, was made
through several phone calls and messages from the respective departments.
Eventually, the development of an efficient
and well executed Visitor Management
System (VMS) came forth as a new and
unique way of promoting safe swift and
speedy entrance for all visitors to the port.
The VMS was a major breakthrough in
delivering hassle-free entry permit service
to the customers. The system involves
the reception of e-mails and appointment
details from the respective departments
regarding the visitors. This information is
then verified at the time of arrival of the
visitors, their documents are scanned and
a visitor’s pass is immediately computergenerated for the visitor. This method
is extremely user-friendly and saves on
a lot of time and eliminates duplication
which was otherwise occurring at various
stages. The VMS has very recently been
updated with the Appointment Column,
which helps each department to update
the list of visitors in the VMS. This procedure is completely automatized, having
no loopholes and drawbacks. Thus, it
ensures a secure as well as efficient
movement of men and material within the
port and helps in seamless operations.
Through the introduction of this system,
the port has taken its first step towards
following the objectives of establishing
India as a hub of EDB. Several other EDB
iniatives are in the pipeline to enhance the
user experience of the port.

In addition to all these achievements, we
also see JSW Steel being reported the
highest ever quarterly crude steel production of 3.87 MT for the 1st Quarter of
FY 2016-17. It also hold the 6th position
among the world-class markers as per the
WSD in 2016.
Another very thriving avenue that JSW
is working towards is the promotion of
Sports and athletes across India, who
can bring great victory to the nation. JSW
Sports is aimed at bettering the chances
of India in the Olympics through well
planned funding and an excellent mentoring system to the rising stars of sports
in India. Thus, JSW Groups has started
the Sports Excellence Program (SEP) that
gives impetus, encourages and provides
for all facilities for the athletes. At present

ics Championship in Patiala, in December,
2015. This throw was declared as the new
‘World Leading Mark for Junior Athletes’
and won Neeraj Chopra a gold medal.
In the following South Asian Games in
Guwahati, he bettered his own distance
to 82.23 meters, equalling to the National
Record. In 2015, already 4 athletes have
won a quota in the upcoming Rio Olympic
Games. Thus, we see how the company is
eagerly assisting in the genre of sports for
the showcasing the best of talents of the
nation, in an international forum.
The present condition of the steel
industry and the production cost
involved?
Team logistics is taking care of
in time transportation of Raw
material from Ports and mines to
plant for Hot Metal production and
takes care of the internal movement of Finished Goods and delivery of finished products
to customers by both Rail and Road.
Production cost of steel is going
on higher side due to cost involved
for Raw material and its logistics
cost. After implementation of MIP
the domestic steel demand is slowly picking
up. Putting together looking positive for the
betterment in coming days.
The procedure of the production of steel. How
dependent is the company on the port for the
procurement of the raw materials?
What are the benefits received from the port’s
end by JSW? Why Krishnapatnam Port is the
choice for JSW?
In JSW Vijayanagar Unit, hot metal is produced by both Blast furnace and Corex technology. JSW use only imported coal for coke
oven, blast furnace and Thermal power plant.
Also we are using imported flux ie. Dolomite,
limestone and Iron ore on need basis. Approx
45 % of imported raw material is being consumed at VJNR Unit for 12MT of hot metal
production. Tentatively 18-19MT of cargo is
to be handled at multiple ports located in East
and West coast of India.
JSW Vijayanagar unit receives raw material
from Goa Port located on west coast and
KPCL & Chennai Port from East Coast. KPCL
is an all weather operational port and customer friendly port. Because of its geographical location and handling facility we are able
to operate multi cargo at a time and at all the
time. Since KPCL handles multiple cargo for
multiple customers looking forward the fully
automation methodology for handling cargo.
The major challenges faced by the company?
JSW Vijayanagar Unit is located at land
locked village called Toranagallu, Bellary
dist. in North Karnataka. Though the unit was
located in rich Iron ore belt of Bellary-Hospet
we are dependent on the iron ore moved
all the way from Orissa-Jharkand sector
and Poor Connectivity of roads from Mines
to Plant is also a concern for Iron Ore
Movement.
The global markets and their impact on the
production in the company?
Indian steel price has gone down drastically
due to dumping of low cost steel in Indian
market by China/Korea/Japan. In order to
provide level playing field for Indian steel
industry, Indian Government has fixed the
Minimum Import Price[MIP] for foreign steel
products, recently the Government has
extended the MIP Scheme for two months for
competent play by Indian Steel Makers.
The direct line from VKT-OBVP will further
enhance route capacity and it will be more
economical and could be priority port for
JSW.
Recent achievement in business, CSR and
beyond?
In business, Vijayanagar plant won the prestigious Prime Minister Trophy for Excellence in
performance of Integrated Steel Plant for the
year 2012-201.
Porter Prize 2015 for effective rendering of
activity across the value chain for competitive
advantage Related to CSR activities, our JSW
foundation is working at 16 location towards
Eradicating poverty & hunger, Addressing
social inequalities, Addressing environmental issues, Preserving national heritage and
Promoting sports training.
JSW-VJNR unit is facing crucial problem because of iron ore scarcity from local mines and
Also heavy impact due to unseasonal rainfall
which lead to dry spell in entire Karnataka.

COALTRANS
On the global coal scenario, the countries with the
lowest cost production, and existing spare capacity,
like South Africa and Columbia will be able to expand
their coal markets
T
he Coaltrans Conferences forms
a part of the Euromoney Energy
Events, which is responsible for
organizing large scale international coal conferences and also specialize
in providing training courses in all major
coal production, importing and trading
aspects.
The 22nd Coaltrans-Asia
The 22nd Coaltrans-Asia conference was
held from 29th to 31st May, 2016. The
event was hosted at BICC, Bali in Indonesia. The event was infused with a variety
of discussions, round table delegations
on the thriving issues of coal marketing,
the economic outlook to coal trade, the
issue of revival of coal trade in China and
many other such issues concerning to
the import export policies, the problems
pertaining to coal trade, the economic as
well as ecological concerns.
One of the major objectives of the conference was to bring into focus the varying
trends that exist in the global coal market.
Through the following study below, we
34 PORTFOLIO / SEPTEMBER 2016
can successfully deduce that the global
contraction trends are to continue all
throughout till 2017; but the rate of
decline will gradually slow down from the
latter part of 2016. We also see how the
stability of China and the demands from
Korea and South East Asia will favour the
market in the period post-2017. Indian
imports will see a decline in the short
period of time due to the increase in the
domestic production. The decline in the
European market will persist, while we
shall see the Mediterranean and Latin
American markets to persist a firm and
steady shape.
Another important aspect that was
highlighted in the Coaltrans Meet, in
Indonesia, was the position of the coal
market while the prices remain at the
present level. At the current prices that
exist, Indonesia and Australia will not be
able to increase production, even when
the market needs the ramp-up. The countries with the lowest cost production, and
existing spare capacity, like South Africa
and Columbia, will be able to expand their
coal markets. The lack of competitiveness
in the market shall ensure the complete
writing off of the USA from the export
market. The fall in coal supply from high
cost origins has also led to the rigidity in
the sea-borne market.
From the above studies it was also very
helpful to draw conclusions regarding the
worldwide imports of coal and also the
impact it shall have on the global coal
market.
With such a varied and diverse global
backdrop of the coal market, we see
Indian coal market creating a different image, where we find that even though Coal
India was unable to meet its target for
the fiscal year 2015-16, of 9-10%, fulfilling
8.3%, yet the previous high underperformance has led to a reduced rates in CV
imports from Indonesia. As Coal India Ltd.
is on its way to improving its records, it is
required for a growth in the private sector
and privately contracted P.S.U operations
to at least be 32% p.a. As estimated, CIL is
to produce 900 m.t per annum, by the year
2020, for India to be able to lead the way
to prevent a steep decline in the global
high CV prices. This trend will be seen to
pursue in future, but shall incur diminishing effects as the government has plans
to add 175GW of renewable capacity, by
the year 2022. The only expectation lies in
the in the improved and high efficiency of
the major power plants to provide some
amount of stability to the high CV market.
Among the dignified attendees, the conference was graced by the presence of
organizations like Adani Enterprises Ltd.,
Asia Pacific Geradlton Pte. Ltd., China
Resources Power Holdings Co. Ltd., East
India Energy Company Pte. Ltd./C&O
Group, Emirates Trading Agency LLL (ETA)
and our very own Krishnapatnam Port
Company Limited. The major objectives of
this particular conference was to provide
an excellent networking opportunity,
to enrich the already existing relations
between the different nations and also
to promote and encourage the establishment of new lucrative contacts.
The 15th COALTRANS-ASIA
The 15th Coaltrans-Asia conference was
held from 2nd March to 4th March, 2016,
thrust in Grand Hyatt, Goa, in India. This
conference was extremely significant
and a benchmark event as it was successfully able to gather together 700 coal
producers, users and policy makers for
2 days of discussions and deliberations.
The conference was majorly concerned
with issues like the Coal India Ltd.’s Billion tonnes plan, the issue of sustaining

the rate of growth of coal production
by 2020, the future of coal imports in
India, the question of whether India will
have the highest demand for sea –borne
thermal coal in Asia in 2016-17, the dry
bulk shipping and recovery of rates of
the freights and many more. There was
a presence of celebrated dignitaries
including Capt. Govind Gautam, CEO of
Pacific World Shipping, Sanjeev Mathur,
the General Manager of BLL, and Mr. P.
Mahesh, the Head of Marketing (Bulk),
Krishnapatnam Port. The conference was
directed towards providing information
on the end-to-end process of coal as a
commodity and the business perspective of cokin coal. The issues regarding
the stabilization of coal prices were also
raised in the forum of discussion. Mr.
Gurudas Mustafi, the CEO of MBE Coal
and Mineral Technology India Pvt. Ltd.,
spoke about constructing coal washeries
and abiding by the ash regulations in the
interest of preserving and protecting the
environment. Mr H.S Bajwa, the Director
of Traffic, Indian Railway Board, spoke of
prioritising enhancement of rail links from
the dosmestic mines and also about the
impact on end-user sourcing decisions
and solutions for improving the last mile
connectivity. Other initiatives taken by the
Government of India was a step towards
opening up to the Indian Coal sector for
full commercial mining. Among the significant participants of this conference were,
ACC Ltd., Adani Enterprises Ltd., Agarwal
Coal Corporation Pvt Ltd., Bedeschi East
FZE, Bedeschi Dubai, Essar Power Ltd.,
Scania Commercial Vehicles India Pvt.
Ltd., Fames S.A, Tata Chemicals Limited,
Tata Steel, Japan Inter Co-operation
Agency, JSW Groups, Krishnapatnam Port
and other such organizations. Krishnapatnam Port was quite a familiar name in the
conference. A plush stall was set-up at
the conference to welcome the delegates.
There was a total of almost 200 delegates
who visited the stall, through the course
of the event, to understand and discuss
business opportunities with our port.
The presence of KPCL in both these conferences show, not only, how the port acts
as the major source to provide economic
stability but also further portrays the
excellence and precision of every port
activity. Out of the entire cargo of the port,
80% of the cargo includes coal. The KPCL
has future prospects of handling 100 million tonnes of coal by the year 2018.

he year 2015 saw a continued
phase of subdue in the global
economic activities. The growth in
emerging markets and developing
economies was evident and also formed
a part of 70% of the entire global growth.
Yet we notice a decline of the growth rate
of the developing nations at a downfall
for the 5th consecutive year, while there
was a considerable rate of growth in the
advanced economies of the world. This
downward drift was majorly an outcome
of the rebalancing activity of China from
an export perspective to a much more
complex consumption and services, a
poor performance of the commodity
based sector with decreased rates of
energy resources and other commodities
and more significantly, the gradual rigidity on the part of the U.S in its monetary
policy, while central banks of other major
advanced countries continued to loosen
their grip on their monetary affairs. These
brought about a major setback in the
exports and factors like supply excessiveness, poor rate of demand and the
less than anticipated growth of the global
36 PORTFOLIO / SEPTEMBER 2016
economy resulted in a despondent environment for sea trade.
This particular global blow created rippling effects that influenced India greatly.
The instability at the global forum, in
demands, has led to the decrease of
exports and the implausible fundamentals
that align the domestic demand has led to
a wholistic reduction in rates of import as
well. The boost in the domestic production of coal was a significant illustration
where coal imports suffered a downfall
and heavy duties were levied by the
government to prevent the predatory pricing of iron ore by China, which led to the
lessened import of the commodity.
Against this backdrop we see India
gradually on the path of growth and development for the past few years and the
World Bank in one of its recent reports,
in the Global Economic Prospect, that is
released bi-annually, made a statement
that India’s growth rate has altered very
minimally from 0.2% in 2015 to 0.1% in
2016 and the coming year of 2017. The
World Bank further states, “In contrast
to the other major developing countries,
growth in India remained robust, buoyed
by strong investor sentiment and the positive effect on real incomes of the recent
fall in oil prices.” The currency and stock
markets of India were greatly resilient and
supple over the past few years, even when
the world economic and financial scenario
was in a highly volatile state, as stated in
the report. The World Bank further went
onto express that India was on a receiving
end of benefits as there was a reduction
in external vulnerabilities, the strengthening domestic trade cycle and an
environment of co-operative and friendly
policies – “Progress on infrastructure
improvements and government export to
boost investment are expected to offset
the impact of any tightening of borrowing
conditions resulting from tighter US monetary policy.” The tumbling price of oil, the
low food price, inflation and a Govt. public
sector wage hike would be an additional
bonus for the development of the Indian
economy, although the consumption
growth of the nation remains below the
long – term averages. These factors were
highly instrumental in the culmination
of a rise in domestic consumption and
also manufacturing, thereby affecting the
import scenario of the nation.
Due to these changing trends in the
economy of the nation, the trade scenario
seemed very bleak and unimpressive for
the year, and the ports across the country
had to undergo a reduction in the volumes
handled due to macroeconomic factors
like inflation, unemployment, economic
output, savings and investments. Apart
from this economic turmoil, most ports
in India face a major problem with the
capacity that they can handle. Ports like
Mumbai port and JNPT are facing dwindling volumes. Another drawback of most
ports is the turnaround time taken by the
vessels. Other problems include congestion in the ports, poor connectivity and
accessibility, lack of adequate facilities,
labour disputes and many other such minor and major setbacks that further lead
to a slack in the trade industry of India, as
the maximum trade of about 90% is carried out through these ports.
As opposed to this, the Krishnapatnam
Port Company Limited, has a lot of favourable conditions that allow a smooth
and efficient functioning of all the trade
activities that take place in the port. The
Krishnapatnam Port has favourable seaside features including deep drafts and a
well protected shorefront. The port also
has a natural alignment of the coastline
that makes it appropriate for greater
efficiency in handling cargo. The port

better expansion of the port in not only
the maritime sector but also develop and
provide other facilities like educational
institutions, medical centres, departmental stores, plant nurseries and many more.
Connectivity is the core pf the functioning
of any port.
Keeping true to this, the Krishnapatnam
Port is connected to the south eastern
leg of the ‘Golden Quadrilateral’, that is
the NH5 and also the already operated
Kolkata-Chennai railway route, an electrified double line trunk route. The port has
the deepest draft in India allowing the
port to handle bigger vessels like cape
vessels, super cape vessels, etc. The vessel waiting is much lesser than the other
ports owing to the efficient Single Window
Clearance (End-to-end port services), that
provides for a swifter functioning of the
port. The port also provides for 24/7 evacuation and operations by rake or road, as
per the requirement. Apart from all of this,
there are prospective plans of increasing
the number of berths from 10 to 42 in the
future for better facilitation and to be able
to cater to many more vessels at a given
time. The draft of the port too is aimed
at being deepened from 18.5m to 22m,
for enabling even bigger vessels to be
brought under the port operations.
Therefore, from the aforesaid discussion
we can see, that even though Krishnapatnam Port is categorized under a non major
port, under the Public-Private-Partnership
(PPP) model of the government, yet has
continuously proven its mettle by attracting new customers and improvising
newmethods and technology to better the
operations of the port. With unrelentless
efforts and constant striving to achieve
all the set goals, the port will be able to
realize goals of increasing the volume of
cargo to be handled. With India staying
strong in its robust path of growth and
development, the Krishnapatnam Port too
aims at reaching new heights of efficiency
and operations in cargo handling, in the
near future.

F
ly ash is one of the naturally
occurring by products after the
combustion of coal and is very
similar to volcanic ash. Fly ash is
made of lightweight particles which are
absorbed in exhaust gas by electrostatic
precipitators and in the bag houses of
the coal fired power plants.
Fly ash is a very fine substance, with
cement like characteristics and has
been long used as a supplement in
cement. The fly ash obtained from the
smouldering of pulverized coal in a coal
fired boiler, is a fine-grained, powdery
particulate material that is carried off
by the combustion exhaust gas (flue
gas) and usually collected from the flue
gas by use of electrostatic precipitators, bag houses or mechanized collection devices like cyclones. One of the
most characteristic uses of fly ash is
that it acts as a partial replacement for
Portland cement, used in the production
of concrete. The rates of replacements
usually varies from 20%-30%, but can be
higher. Fly ash usually reacts a pozzolan
agent with the lime present in cement
as it hydrates, creating a durable binder
that holds the concrete firmly together.
Thus, the concrete made of fly ash is
much more tenacious and firm than that
made of only portland cement. Fly ash is
a Supplementary Cementitious Material (SCM), in the production of Portland
cement concrete. In spite of its role as a
supplement to Portland cement, fly ash
is also used in activities involving Recla-
mation of low lying areas, construction
of Roads and Embankments, filling up of
Mines, making of Bricks and Tiles and
also in the field of Agriculture.
Fly ash is attributed to a myriad of other
benefits like:
• The production of fly ash is done
through locally available materials.
• The use of fly ash increases the
durability and strength of the
concrete.
• Use of fly ash also ensures big
savings in concrete material prices.
• Fly ash ensures the use of recycled
base materials.
• Fly ash provides for low

Krishnapatnam Port has 7 Thermal
Power Plants in its vicinity that generate 6000 MW of energy every day. The
available export quality fly ash on a daily
basis ranges from 6000 MT to 10,000
MT, from these Thermal Power Plants.
The vital location of the port and its well
planned and executed connectivity to
major markets in the Middle East, Myanmar and Bangladesh, makes Krishnapatnam Port appropriate for the shipments
of fly ash. The port has undertaken
several initiatives for the commencement of the fly ash exports from the
port. The port has arranged meeting with
fly ash exporters, buyers and customers, in general, within India and the key
markets. Locations to spread awareness
about the availability and liaise between
the suppliers and potential buyers, has
also been established by the port.
The VTPS, in Vijayawada, has a capacity
of 1750 MW of coal being fired in this
plant. In addition to this, the Rayalseema
Power Plants add another 1000 MW of
capacity. With other smaller IPPs near
Gummidipoondi, generating a capacity of approximately 600 MW each, it
all sums up to a total capacity of more
than 10,000 MW. In total the amount of
fly ash available from all these plants is
more than 60,000 MT, per day; and the
current plant load factor (PLF) is 85% for
the power plants. The power plants generate two types of fly ash, one being the
Fine Ash (<45 microns) and the Coarse
Ash. The Fine Ash is the preferred type
of fly ash for export, which only includes
10%-15% of the total fly ash output, thus
bringing the amount of fly ash that can
be exported to 6000-10,000 MT per day.
The advantages of using the port for
the purpose of exporting fly ash is that,
the port is surrounded by power plants,
Thermal
Insulation
ensuring an continued supply of fly ash
from them. The port also is bestowed
with great connectivity facility to provide
for easy transport and also has easy
access to the global markets of Middle
East, Myanmar and Bangladesh. Further
we see, the introduction of the Maersk
Salalah Shuttle, the CCS1-SCI Service
to Chittagong, and also the 4 weekly
Colombo Feeder Services, provides for
huge benefit in commencing fly ash
trade from the port. Krishnapatnam Port
is always aimed at providing best customer satisfaction and the most benefits
to its clientele. It also aims at providing
complete ease to the concerned associates through all its world class facilities
and state of the art infrastructure. The
port also has a vast amount of land
that will enable the setting up of new
industries, based on fly ash business
and ensure a sustainable economic
development to the region. The effective
utilization of fly ash not only for export
but also in domestic industries will
boost the employment opportunities and
provide for a better lifestyle to the people
in and around the port. This provision is
also eco friendly and a profitable avenue,
thus creating a responsible corporate
society. Therefore, all domestic and
global companies and markets should
recognize the potential of the fly ash
business and the benefits of handling
this cargo from Krishnapatnam Port.

NPS SCHOOL
NAVANEETA PUBLIC SCHOOL
A SCHOOL OF
TOMORROW
The most vital objective of a good school
is to stimulate curiosity and interest in all
its students and also help in the all-round
development of every student.
H
ailing from one of the poorest of
households, from the remotest
villages of Andhra Pradesh, the
children at NPS are carefully selected
from varied cultural and educational
backgrounds, to become the future of our
nation. Education has always been one
of the most important driving forces of
improving and developing a region, the
society, and the country, at large. The
most vital objective of a good school is
to stimulate curiosity and interest in all
its students and also help in the all-round
growth of every student. The values
upheld by the founder of the Navayuga
Group, Shri C Vishweswara Rao, of uplifting the poor, mingled with the ideology of
Mr. C. Sasidhar, the Managing Director of

Krishnapatnam Port, of providing education to the under-privileged children and
his vision of “an educated India”, has led
to the formation of the Navaneeta Public
School.
NPS is a five- floor elegant and opulent
school with a hostel building, which
is located in the midst of nature, near
Chillakur Mandal, Kanpur in Nellore. It
provides free of cost, world-class education, food, and accommodation to many
children of the region, who are talented
but born in penury. The mother school of
NPS is the Sancta Maria School, located
in Hyderabad, which manages the entire
operations of the school. They also have
provided for 20 teachers who are first
trained and then employed to educate
the students at NPS, from classes IV to
VII. At present, the school is following the
state syllabus, but it will gradually switch
over to the CBSE syllabus. The school
provides for ultra modern classrooms,
bio-science labs, physical science labs,
music hall, with different musical instruments. It also houses a computer lab with
over 40 systems and has been provided
with 4 broadband connections by BSNL.
Every floor of the school is equipped with
CC cameras and fire fighting facilities.

the necessary stationary, to each of the
students along with their uniforms and
formal wears. The hostel has separate
dormitories for boys and girls. The school

courts along with playgrounds for the
activities of Cricket and Football. All these
provisions and many more, bring the
school at par with many other schools of
the metropolitan cities.
