Georgia Chamber CEO addresses members
Chamber members enjoyed a presentation by Chris
Clark, new president and CEO of the Georgia Chamber of Commerce, on December 9th at the final Carroll Chamber breakfast of the year. Over 120 attendees heard an overview of the Georgia Chamber’s
plans for 2011. Clark shared that his organization
would be more active than ever at the state capitol
during this coming legislative session, as well as taking their message to the nation’s capitol, “We will
be doing a better job of representing the voice of
Georgia businesses to Washington,” stated Clark.
Clark, a respected leader in state economic development for the past 20 years, recently took the helm of
the GA Chamber after serving as state commissioner

Carroll Tomorrow unveils five-year plan
“Advantage Carroll” – That’s the name given to
the new five-year Business Action Plan of Carroll
Tomorrow. More than fifty corporate, community,
government and education leaders worked with the
Board of Directors and staff of Carroll Tomorrow
over a four-month period developing a plan to
stimulate economic, community and workforce development over the next five years.
Warren said, “The goals and objectives of Advantage
Carroll are of vital importance to every citizen of Carroll County. The benefits of this program over the
next five years will accrue to every segment of our
community, both public and private. It is a program of
such importance to this area that business, government, education and the community at large must all
unite in support of these goals.”
The plan will focus on Economic Development,
Education and Workforce development, and Leadership and Government Relations. Measurable goals
have been developed for each component of the
plan.
Loy Howard, Chairman of the Board of Carroll Tomorrow and Chairman of the Campaign Leadership
Council for Advantage Carroll, “Advantage Carroll
will utilize the power of organization and collaboration to achieve results over the next five years. This
initiative is an opportunity for the entire business,
government and education communities to work together to reach common economic, education and
workforce development objectives. Advantage Carroll will advance Carroll County toward its full economic potential. Tanner Medical System supports
Advantage Carroll and encourages all of our area
leaders to join us in this effort.”
Warren announced that Chip Jakins, President/CEO of
Carroll EMC, and H. B. (Rocky) Lipham, President of
Community & Southern Bank, are Co-Chairing the
Advance Division of the Advantage Carroll initiative;
while Sheila Butler, President of Sheila J. Butler &
Company, and Ben Garrett, President of RA-LIN, will
Co-Chair the Leadership Division; and Leonard Woolsey, Publisher of the Times-Georgian, is serving as
Publicity Chair. Other leadership roles will be announced in the next few days.
For more information on Advantage Carroll, contact
Gerald Scott at 678.890.2356.
Included among the measurable goals for Advantage
Carroll are 2,000 new jobs, $175 million in new
capital investment, $100 million in new payroll, assisting a minimum of 240 existing businesses with
expansion opportunities, and assisting 75 new startup businesses through The Burson Center.
The plan also calls for establishing a workforce development and education department at the Chamber, expanding health and wellness programs in our
parks and the creation of recycling programs
throughout Carroll County.
Howard announced that Tim Warren has accepted
the role of Campaign General Chairman for the Advantage Carroll. Warren is President of United
Community Bank.
