Details of all sponsor levels and registration information are available on pages 16 and 17 of this issue of Chamber News. 4 January 2011 www.carroll-ga.org Georgia Chamber CEO addresses members Chamber members enjoyed a presentation by Chris Clark, new president and CEO of the Georgia Chamber of Commerce, on December 9th at the final Carroll Chamber breakfast of the year. Over 120 attendees heard an overview of the Georgia Chamber’s plans for 2011. Clark shared that his organization would be more active than ever at the state capitol during this coming legislative session, as well as taking their message to the nation’s capitol, “We will be doing a better job of representing the voice of Georgia businesses to Washington,” stated Clark. Clark, a respected leader in state economic development for the past 20 years, recently took the helm of the GA Chamber after serving as state commissioner of the Department of Natural Resources and previously as assistant commissioner of the Department of Economic Development. Burson Center Chamber News January 2011 9 Ribbon Cuttings American Pie Pizzeria celebrated their grand opening with a Chamber ribbon cutting on December 14th. The new restaurant is located in Westover Square on Maple St., Carrollton. The inviting diner atmosphere includes a specialty pizza buffet, sports channel viewing and a large, private party room with a mega-screen for movies or gaming. Milestone Investment Management enjoyed the grand opening of their new offices at historic 206 Mandeville Avenue, Carrollton. Following the Chamber ribbon cutting, Michael Stone and his family celebrated with the many guests enjoying fine food, including Michael’s special chicken and sausage gumbo. Spirit Visit Chamber Business Development Committee members and Ambassadors delivered a Spirit Visit to the Carrollton office of Associated Credit Union at 1034 Dixie St., Carrollton, on December 3rd. In return, Lisa Herndon, ACU branch business development representative, sent a thank you, “On behalf of the Carrollton ACU branch, thank you for visiting us today with the Chamber Ambassadors for the monthly Spirit Visit. We appreciate the recognition and look forward to becoming more involved in future Chamber events. The YPNCC, under the leadership of Andy Johnson, will be meeting monthly for social , business and service networking . Chamber reaches 100 new members in 2010 Chamber executive committee members, Robie York and Gary Leftwich, congratulate Membership Sales Associate, Cara Welch, for recruiting 100 new members since joining the Chamber staff in December, 2009. Chamber News January 2011 11 12 January 2011 www.carroll-ga.org Chamber News January 2011 13 Carroll Tomorrow unveils five-year plan “Advantage Carroll” – That’s the name given to the new five-year Business Action Plan of Carroll Tomorrow. More than fifty corporate, community, government and education leaders worked with the Board of Directors and staff of Carroll Tomorrow over a four-month period developing a plan to stimulate economic, community and workforce development over the next five years. Warren said, “The goals and objectives of Advantage Carroll are of vital importance to every citizen of Carroll County. The benefits of this program over the next five years will accrue to every segment of our community, both public and private. It is a program of such importance to this area that business, government, education and the community at large must all unite in support of these goals.” The plan will focus on Economic Development, Education and Workforce development, and Leadership and Government Relations. Measurable goals have been developed for each component of the plan. Loy Howard, Chairman of the Board of Carroll Tomorrow and Chairman of the Campaign Leadership Council for Advantage Carroll, “Advantage Carroll will utilize the power of organization and collaboration to achieve results over the next five years. This initiative is an opportunity for the entire business, government and education communities to work together to reach common economic, education and workforce development objectives. Advantage Carroll will advance Carroll County toward its full economic potential. Tanner Medical System supports Advantage Carroll and encourages all of our area leaders to join us in this effort.” Warren announced that Chip Jakins, President/CEO of Carroll EMC, and H. B. (Rocky) Lipham, President of Community & Southern Bank, are Co-Chairing the Advance Division of the Advantage Carroll initiative; while Sheila Butler, President of Sheila J. Butler & Company, and Ben Garrett, President of RA-LIN, will Co-Chair the Leadership Division; and Leonard Woolsey, Publisher of the Times-Georgian, is serving as Publicity Chair. Included among the measurable goals for Advantage Carroll are 2,000 new jobs, $175 million in new capital investment, $100 million in new payroll, assisting a minimum of 240 existing businesses with expansion opportunities, and assisting 75 new startup businesses through The Burson Center. The plan also calls for establishing a workforce development and education department at the Chamber, expanding health and wellness programs in our parks and the creation of recycling programs throughout Carroll County. Howard announced that Tim Warren has accepted the role of Campaign General Chairman for the Advantage Carroll.
