networking opportunities.

Commerce have the opportunity each year to
participate in the Santa Cash program during the

Growing together for 42 years
Work hard, pray hard. That’s been 3B
Farm’s business philosophy for the past 42
years.
3B Farms is family owned and operated.
Even the name, “3,” for the number of men
who began the operation—dad Lanny, and
brothers John and Brian—and the “B” stands
for the family name of Bezner.
Lanny was actually in the chemical
business in Hereford in the late 1960s, but felt
the calling to go back into farming. He owned
a section of land that was privately farmed, and
in 1973 he moved his family from Hereford to
the Dalhart area.
His sons grew up watching their dad be
successful in the farming business and desired
to follow in his footsteps. John, Partner for the
cattle feeding branch; Brian, General Partner;
and Mark, Partner for the farming branch and
eventually their sister, Virginia, bookkeeping
specialist all came back home from college to work in the family business. Brian’s
wife, Alicia, is also an asset to the company.
“The great thing about our business is we are all family,” Brian said. “We’re all
going in the same direction, and we all have the same set of goals.”
3B Farms currently has 10,000 irrigated acres of land, growing alfalfa, corn,
wheat and even 275 acres of watermelon. They stay fairly busy with custom cattle
feeding, seed sales, two commercial grain elevators and a new cleaning processing
plant.
“A lot of farms are just that—farms,” Brian added. “We stay so busy year round,
not just planting and harvest times. That’s something that makes us unique.”
Third generation of excellence
Trish (Bowers) Miller, granddaughter of the founder of Bowers Drug, is carrying on
the tradition and good service to customers. Trish is now the owner and manager of the
business.
Bowers Prescription has a long and rich heritage. The Bowers Drug Co. began on June
1, 1947, when the late Dick Bowers and the late Harold H. Hogue (silent partner) bought
the drug store from W.L. (Bill) Wanser. Wanser had bought the store 25 years earlier from
Guy McGee.
Bowers was located on Denrock, where the Sears Store was located for many years
and now the Hillside Kids Building is located. The store was complete with a large soda
fountain, booths, prescription department, over the counter drugs, gifts, and cosmetics.
Bowers Drug remained at that location until 1959 when they moved to their current
location at 121 Texas Blvd. across the street northwest from Coon Memorial Hospital. The
business features a drive-up window and city wide delivery to those who need it. Store hours
are 9 a.m. to 6 p.m. Monday through Friday.
Dick Bowers started out in the drug business early when he took a job at age nine
in Vernon and was in that business until he sold to his son, Don. Dick N. Bowers and
Marie Skipworth Bowers moved to Dalhart in November 1945. He was a salesman for
Southwestern Drug Corp of Amarillo before going into the retail drug business in Dalhart.
Don Bowers, only child of Dick and Marie, was born in Vernon. He graduated from
Vernon High School and went to Abilene and surveyed with the U.S. Engineering Dept.
before joining the Air Force in 1943. Don attended Capitol College of Pharmacy in Denver
and returned to Dalhart as a registered pharmacist.
Don and Mary Pat James, daughter of the late Andy M. and Loretta Stack James, were
married on August 7, 1947. They moved to Norman, Okla. in May 1948 where Don received
his BS in Pharmacy from the University of Oklahoma in May 1951. After returning to
Dalhart from Oklahoma, Don and Mary Pat lived on the Andy James Ranch and ranched for
seven years. They moved into Dalhart where Don went to work as a pharmacist at Bowers.
Karen (Bowers) Simpson purchased the store from her father Don on May 1, 1989.
Trish (Bowers) Miller moved back to Dalhart in July 1993 and went to work at Bowers.
Trish purchased the store from her sister, Karen (Bowers) Simpson, on October 1, 2009.

Above, Leroy Schaffner, Coon Memorial Hospital CEO, gladly cut the ribbon to commemorate the opening of the new ER Department on Marcy 31. Several
members of the community, hospital staff, and Dalhart Area Chamber of Commerce were on hand to congratulate Schaffner and his staff on the recent completion
of the new facility. The department was open to see patients beginning Wednesday, April 1. Below, Dalhart’s new emergency facility doubled in size, adding a total
of 6,334 square feet to the department and now has seven rooms including two trauma rooms separated by a collapsible wall and one triage room.
Serving Dalhart and surrounding area’s medical needs since 1928
Dallam-Hartley County Hospital District (DHCHD)
is the primary medical source for our region and consists
of 12 different entities, including Coon Memorial
Hospital, Dalhart Family Medicine, High Country Rural
Health Clinic, Occupational Health Clinic, Legacy
Assisted Living and Coon Memorial Home.
Dalhart’s hospital was founded in 1928 as Sisters of
Loretta Hospital, and in 1954 the hospital was renamed
Coon Memorial Hospital. This year has seen another
change for the facility, after the grand opening of the
newly-constructed emergency department.
The new ER has more than doubled in size, adding
a total of 6,334 square feet to the department and now
has seven rooms including two trauma rooms separated
by a collapsible wall and one triage room. In the event
that there are multiple patients at a time, the separating
wall between the rooms can be collapsed to expand the
room for more patients. The department also has an
OB/GYN room with its own bathroom, a pediatric room
complete with a new bed equipped with a scale, and an
isolation room with its own air supply.
The specialty clinic has one general surgeon and
one orthopedic surgeon who travel from Amarillo each
week to host clinics and perform surgeries. The hospital
also has an excellent physical therapy department with
state of the art equipment and a very knowledgeable
staff.
The hospital lab provides comprehensive clinical
and anatomic pathology testing services 24 hours a day,
seven days a week for patients, out-patients and outreach
services. The radiology department contains the latest in
state-of-the-art “patient friendly” Siemens 64 slice CT,
x-ray and Ultra-sound equipment. The hospital has also
added nuclear medicine and cardiac stress testing, and
provides MRI services one day a week. The respiratory
department provides physician ordered and protocol
directed therapeutic care to patients with pulmonary
complications of all ages. DHCHD is also proud to
offer sleep studies to measure how well you sleep and
how your body responds to sleep problems.
The Dalhart Family Medicine Clinic houses four
family practice physicians, one OBGYN and one midlevel provider. The clinic offers services to patients of
all ages from sick visits to wellness visits, minor surgery
and obstetrics care. We also host three specialty clinics,
podiatry cardiology and allergy testing.
The High Country Rural Health Clinic has one
mid-level provider and offers a wide variety of medical
services from newborn to geriatric medical needs, and
welcomes both appointment and “walk-in” patients.
DHCHD is also very proud to offer Legacy
Assisted Living, which is a combination of housing and
personalized support services for the person who does
not need the full range of services offered by the Nursing
Home, but requires some supervision or assistance. Then,
should the need arise, Coon Memorial Nursing Home
offers long term care in a pleasant setting. Connected to
the hospital, the home can provide a continuum of care
not always found in health care today
A recent addition to the hospital district is the senior
care solutions department, which is designed to provide
individualized treatment for older adults suffering from
emotional, behavioral or mental health disorders.
DHCHD has also established the Texline Health
Clinic. Located in Texline, with a mid-level practitioner
as well as a medical assistant-phlebotomist on staff, they
specialize in generalized adult, adolescent and pediatric
medicine.
Offering CNA classes through the Nursing Home
and partnering with Frank Phillips College to offer a
LVN program, DHCHD is focused on providing the
employees, as well as individuals in the community,
the opportunity to advance in the healthcare field and
provide “healthcare with a personal touch” to Dalhart
and our surrounding area.

Excellence in potatoes from Dalhart soil
Larsen Farms, one of the largest potato growers
in the country, is a top-rated company. They currently
employ more than 550 people in the Dalhart area.
When purchasing potatoes from a local grocery
store or supermarket, chances are high you’ll be buying
a Larsen Potato.
The company story begins in Idaho. When Blaine
Larsen put his money down on 80 dry acres of Idaho
desert, folks thought he’d never have a crop worth
selling.
What no one knew was the same ancient forces that
created nearby Yellowstone Park had also created the
perfect conditions for America’s #1 potato-soft, volcanic
soil, unlimited mountain water, lots of warm days, and
plenty of cool nights. When people saw Mr. Larsen’s
potatoes, they were amazed. When they tasted them,
they were sold.
So Mr. Larsen’s farm grew, and so did his passion
for perfect potatoes. And so did his children. As they
worked the land together, the family focused on serving
its customers and growing the best potatoes in the
world.
Today Larsen Farms spans three states and thousands
of acres, and its products are distributed around the
globe. They are still family owned and operated, but the
family has grown to include a full team of hard-working
professionals whose expertise ranges from biochemistry
to marketing to—of course—farming.
While many people may not equate Texas with
potatoes, the soil in Dallam County provides ideal
conditions for potato production, which has lead to an
increase in potato production in recent years.
Larsen Farms opened operation in Dalhart in
2011. Starting this year, the operation has dedicated
approximately 400 acres to growing organic potatoes.
Larsen Farms in Dalhart produces approximately
8,000 acres of potatoes. While they primarily produce
russet potatoes, some acres are also devoted to red,
yellow and rose varieties. Each of those acres will
yield approximately 6,000 pounds of potatoes. That’s
approximately 48,000,000 pounds of potatoes.
Harvest for potatoes on Larsen Farms began in
early August, with potatoes harvested and bagged for
supermarkets through mid-September. Harvest then
continues into October for potatoes that are stored in
climate-controlled facilities until they are distributed
for market. Larsen Farms has 38 of these facilities, each
with a capacity to hold 14 million pounds of potatoes.
Quality you can count on.
Our roots are in Idaho, but Larsen Farms operations
are strategically located throughout the country to best
serve you. We’ve sought out the best growing conditions
for the best variety of potatoes and located our farms in
both Idaho and Texas.
Spanning three states and thousands of acres.
12295 Co Rd 11, Dalhart, TX 79022 • (806) 377-6208
Locally, the company not only excels in potato
production, they are also in the restaurant business.
Larsen Farms purchased Dalhart’s 50-year-old airport
business from Cecil Ingram in 2011. An unfortunate
grease fire burned down the airport’s café in June of
2012. Mr. Larsen realized the importance of the café to
the Dalhart community.
He decided to rebuild both the café and airport to
keep the memories alive and to give Dalhart a facility to
be proud of. The airport now has a pilot’s lounge, plenty
of seating, beautiful décor, various historical pictures
plus a conference room available for renting for special
events.
Dalhart Municipal Airport now offers a beautiful
facility along with a great meal at The Red Baron
Restaurant. Opened July 1, 2014, the family-style eatery
offers a great atmosphere with mouth-watering favorites
like chicken fried steak, catfish, an array of pies and
desserts and unforgettable sweet tea.
The Red Baron is located at 11908 Airport Road
and stays open during the week for breakfast, lunch and
dinner from 6:30 a.m. until 8 p.m. and Sundays 6:30
a.m. until 2 p.m. Check them out on Facebook to see
their full menu and daily specials.

Celebrating more than 70 years
of dedication to the Dalhart area
Furniture Fashions is the area’s favorite furniture and appliance store, offering
customers a large selection of appliances, electronics, furniture, bedding, floor
covering and gift ware.
The store has been in the Caddell family since 1945 and has provided
exceptional customer service and expert knowledge of their products.
Owner Kevin Caddell continues to carry out the family’s business ethics to
this day.
“We do a lot of things the old-fashion way,” Caddell said. “This method has
been tested to be fool proof.”
Caddell’s father, Caylor, a businessman, originally operated Dalhart Motor
and Tire Company, beginning in 1945. His wife, Earlene, wanted to try her hand
in the furniture business. In 1965, they initially purchased one set each for a
dining room, bedroom and living room.
“Soon after that, the show room was overrun with furniture,” Caddell
remembers. “So, the cars moved out and the furniture moved in. Twelve years
later, dad sold Dalhart Motor and Tire Company and they became Furniture
Fashions.”
Earlene, 92 years young, still helps to manage the store and offers her expertise
on customer service.
“I see my mom everyday in the store,” Caddell said. “She is dedicated to this
store and to the people of Dalhart.”
Name-brand appliances and products Furniture Fashions carries include
Whirlpool, Frigidaire, Maytag, Kitchen Aid, LG, Lazyboy, Riverside, Ashley,
Serta, Sansui, Pulaski and Hooker.
The store is located at 1603 Tennessee, next to United. They’re open 9 a.m.
until 6 p.m. Monday through Friday and 9 a.m. until 4 p.m. on Saturday. Stop by
and check out what they have in store for you.

Home cooking in the heart of downtown
Simple home cooking and comfort food
in a casual atmosphere is what you’ll find at
The Loose Caboose.
Owner Jamie Gillispie opened her
doors in June of 2007, after overcoming
many obstacles.
“When we moved into our current
building at 301 Denrock, we had a year of
renovations ahead of us,” Gillispie recalls.
“We had a lot of electrical issues to work
around. We also changed a lot on the inside
to make it the restaurant I envisioned in my
mind.”
Gillispie, along with day crew Kelly
Jones, Karen Line and Mary Ann Reichert
and evening crew daughter Mary Spencer,
Malia Jones and Curtis Zambrano work hard
to provide a great meal. During the week,
they offer a lunch menu from 11 a.m. until
2 p.m. and dinner on Monday and Thursday
evenings from 5 until 8 p.m.
The Loose Caboose has plans of
expanding next door to 303 Denrock and
offering a private party room for events such
as wedding rehearsal dinners, baby showers,
business meetings, and holiday parties.
“We love to celebrate people and serve
others,” Gillispie said. “Expanding and
offering our customers another option is
another way to help us help the people of
Dalhart.”
Neighbors helping neighbors since 1934
The Dalhart Federal Savings and Loan was
chartered September 18, 1934. The philosophy of the
company has been “Neighbors Helping Neighbors,” and
the employees at Dalhart Federal Savings and Loans
keep that philosophy in focus as a full-service financial
institution.
Dalhart Federal Savings and Loan is a mutual
savings and loan, which means they are owned by their
customers and don’t have stockholders to answer to. One
of the benefits of banking with Dalhart Federal Savings
and Loan is they are not a mortgage broker. They do
not sell their loans, which allows them to develop a
relationship with their customers over the years.
As a holding company, Dalhart Federal Savings
and Loan has had the opportunity to branch into other
enterprises. Dalhart Federal Savings and Loan charted
Progress Resources, Inc., in 1971. This business, which
is wholly owned by Dalhart Federal Savings and Loan,
provides lots at reasonable prices so the cost of the home
is kept lower for a new homeowner. There are currently
two housing developments under this entity. The first is
Prairie View Estates, which is located off of FM 281.
The second is Country Meadows, which is located on
north Jefferson Avenue in Dalhart.
This year, Bill Cunningham retired as CEO, and
Rodney White has filled that position. Dalhart Federal
Savings and Loan employs 21 people at their branch in
Dalhart and an additional nine people at their branch in
Dumas. Dalhart Federal offers a full line of internet and
mobile banking services including Money Desk top, bill
pay, person to person payments and e-statements.
