2nd Quarter 2012 QUARTERLY MIXER
2nd Quarter 2012 QUARTERLY MIXER A NOTE FROM BOB 2nd Quarter Successes I would like to congratulate everyone on a successful close to our suppliers’ fiscal year endings that take place during the Second Quarter. We trended above the national average on several of our brands which reinforces our ability to perform at the highest levels here in Florida. Year to date our organic growth is slightly more than 6% which outpaces the state’s organic growth of 2%. a note from rinon Bob D Reflecting on the first half of the year reminds me of a term that is often used in long distance races, negative splitting. Many athletes use negative splitting to ensure they finish the second half of a race stronger than the first half which gives them overall better performance and results. In the type of endurance business we are in, it is just as important to keep our eyes on the prize and finish the second half of the year even stronger than the first. I look forward to continuing our positive growth trends, a successful close of the year, and testing the negative split theory with you all in the Dolphins Cycling Challenge. EXECUTIVE CORNER: • Alan Paquette, Vice President of Wine Alan started working in the wine and spirits business in 1994 as a distributor Sales Representative in Miami Beach during the early days of South Beach. A few years later in 1996, he went to work for Majestic Fine Wines and soon moved on to work in many large U.S. markets including Florida, Massachusetts, New York, New Jersey, Texas and Illinois. During this time he held various positions within the company including Regional Manager and up to Divisional Vice President. In January of 2012 Alan joined the Premier team as Vice President of Wine. When asked Alan how he ended up with Premier, he said “…It was interesting. After working in so many markets, I experienced almost every major wholesaler in the country, but I was most impressed by Bob and Eric and how they ran Premier Beverage Company.” As the current VP of Wine, Alan’s main focus is to define Premier’s relevance to both our suppliers and customers. An important piece of this is developing strategies with the wineries to create goals that meet their expectations and are aligned with the market’s potential. Alan believes that personal and business activities must have a shared benefit, whether it is in dealing with associates, customers or suppliers. He lives by Napoleon Hill’s philosophy that “You don’t get anything without giving something first”. Alan shared the following quote; It is literally true that you can succeed best and quickest by helping others to succeed.Anything you do to and for another person, you do it to and for yourself” ― Napoleon Hill Alan loves to talk about wine history, wine and food experiences and classic rock. He is a musician at heart, and finds solace on many a Sunday afternoon with one of his favorite guitars. HR CORNER • Welcome Rosanne Mathews We are pleased to welcome the newest addition to our executive team, Vice President of Human Resources, Rosanne Mathews. Rosanne is a New Jersey native, but has lived in South Florida since 1999. She has worked in the HR industry for many years, including Senior Executive positions at Perry Ellis and Sports Authority. Earlier in her career she worked as a Compensation Manager and Plant HR Manager for Haagen- Dazs. As a Regional HR Manager for Haagen-Dazs she was responsible for 10 distribution centers- the position she feels brought her the greatest knowledge for her to use in her role with Premier. Before joining the Premier team, she ran her own HR consulting business, which provided clients with executive level HR services for staffing, compensation, employee relations and organization development issues. While consulting for a client, Rosanne came across the Premier HR position posted online and felt she couldn’t pass it up. A short time later, we welcomed her to the team! In her free time, Rosanne is a certified group fitness instructor and teaches both Yoga and Spinning classes. She is also a huge tennis fan and player, an actor with a theater group and a ballet, tap and jazz dancer. On top of all of this, she also has had a DJ/Karaoke business! She is a born entertainer. At work, Rosanne encourages a “self-actualization” environment where there is an emphasis on learning and developing, something that impressed her at Premier Beverage. “The distinguishing factor of any organization is their people”, says Rosanne, and she believes the people at Premier are outstanding! DRINK CORNER Tewnty Four Cabernet Sauvignon by Charles Woodson Football player Charles Woodson gained an affinity for wine in the summer of 1998 when he arrived in Napa Valley for training camp while playing for the Oakland Raiders. Interested in learning more about the art of making fine wine, he partnered with one of the industry’s preeminent winemakers, Gustavo A. Gonzalez. They soon partnered to create an outstanding Cabernet Sauvignon, that retails for $150. Charles Woodson Cabernet Sauvignon is an explosion of bright fruit with a hint of pepper. Plum, blackberry and ripe cherry give way to a soft vanilla oak finish. Firm tannins and balanced acidity create an elegance and structure that will ensure a long and rewarding life in the cellar. Thursday night,May 17th, nearly 50 guests arrived at Premier Beverage Company’s state-of-the-art facility in Tampa for an event celebrating the company’s commitment to sustainability – both literally and figuratively. Premier planned the event to celebrate their involvement with the Florida Tax Credit Scholarship Program, Step Up For Students. Premier contributed enough to fund more than 3,200 scholarships to the Step Up For Students Program in 2011. At the event, Premier announced its 2012 pledge to Step Up For Students: $25 million. This contribution will fund 5,594 scholarships, which students can use toward tuition at one of approximately 1,350 Florida schools. “Our company recognizes that today’s students are tomorrow’s business and political leaders, so it is in our best interest, and theirs, to help them find the educational opportunities they need to succeed,” said Bob Drinon, President and CEO of Premier Beverage Company. “We are thrilled to announce our contribution, and we look forward to hearing all of the success stories that will result from it.” Miami Marlins outfielder Logan Morrison and the Clevelander recently introduced a new frozen drink to support the American Lung Association. Premier Beverage Company and Three Olives Vodka are proud sponsors of the LoMo Home Run Cocktail, which is a specialty drink that combines all of The Clevelander’s famous frozen drinks. Morrison has put his own unique twist on the drink by encouraging fans to “LoMo” at The Clevelander for a free floater of Three Olives Vodka with each “Home Run” order. The “LoMo” is a pose created by Morrison when one reclines on their side and confidently points at an imaginary camera. He introduced “LoMoing” in a Twitter contest at the beginning of the year. Nick Doyle, Premier Beverage Company 5 At the event, guests had the opportunity to tour the distribution facility. Premier’s Tampa facility is one of the largest LEED-certified projects in Florida, and is located on a nature preserve. The distribution center features a reflective white TPO roof system, storm water collection locations for irrigation, and a water-cooled, chilled-water HVAC system. “Premier Beverage Company’s commitment to low-income students is incredible, and we are honored to count this company as a partner in our mission to help Florida families choose the educational environment that works best for their children,” said Step Up For Students President Doug Tuthill. “The sheer number of students who will be affected by this contribution is astonishing. Literally thousands of lives will be positively changed, because of Premier’s generosity.” The scholarships are funded by corporations that redirect certain types of Florida tax liabilities to Step Up For Students in exchange for dollar-for-dollar tax credit. Since the scholarship program’s inception in 2001, the corporate community has contributed more than $900 million to provide educational opportunities for Florida’s underserved families. Vice President explains, “After spending time with Logan and learning of his commitment to the American Lung Association in honoring his father, Premier Beverage and the Clevelander committed to supporting his efforts by creating a cocktail that tied all three partners together in a fun and positive manner. Three Olives was the perfect brand as it mirrors Logan’s fun and enthusiastic approach to life and allows everyone to have a little fun while supporting the very serious and worthwhile cause that the American Lung Association champions.” Proceeds from the new beverage will directly support the American Lung Association, the main partner and recipient of Morrison’s charitable efforts. “Logan has been a true hero for the American Lung Association. He shares our passion in the crusade against lung cancer and his efforts have truly made a difference in our ability to fight this disease” says Carol Ruggeri, Executive Director of the American Lung Association in South Florida.
