The Mendham Messenger - Mendham Borough Library!
The Mendham Messenger May 2014 Mayor’s Update Dear Resident and Business Owners, Work on the 2014 budget is almost complete. As of this writing, we plan to introduce the budget at the April 21 Borough Council Meeting. After this meeting, the public will be able to view the budget on the Borough website prior to its planned adoption in May. Key elements in this year’s budget include improvements to the police department’s computer technology and repair work to our roads which took a pounding this past winter. As work wraps up on the budget, the Borough’s Personnel Sub-committee will begin employee performance appraisals which are done each year. The Recreation Department is again planning a great summer for Mendham’s residents. Preparations have begun for the launch of our 2014 Summer Day Camp including the use of the Mendham Borough Health and Racquet Club pool again this summer. The club welcomed us last year after we decided to discontinue using Brookside Beach as part of our program and the pool turned out to be a big hit with our campers. The Department is finalizing our Summer Concert series at the Borough Park and plans have also begun on this year’s Labor Day parade. The Mayors Ad-Hoc Committee, which oversees the WMRHS School District Restructuring Feasibility Study, is now soliciting additional proposals because one of the two firms that submitted proposals has withdrawn. The committee felt it was critical to have a choice when selecting this consultant. The end of April was the deadline for new proposals and a decision on consultants is expected during the month of May. Please remember to honor those that have served in our military on Memorial Day. The first weeklong celebration took place in May 1974. EMS was still in its infancy then and organized systems of care and the concept of EMTs and paramedics were just developing. This year’s theme is “EMS: Dedicated For Life.” Take a moment to think about how you might show your appreciation to the Mendham EMS volunteers write a kind note, bake and share some cookies, stop by and help wash the rigs on a Sunday morning, or think about volunteering your time in some capacity. EMS is there 24-7, 365 days a year. They are a critical part of our community’s safety net. While many people think there is a lot of drama in working as an EMT, the everyday calls often have the most impact on us. It’s the call we get for the elderly person who lives alone and falls in the kitchen or the person down the street who can’t regulate his blood sugar that define our roles most. At its heart, EMS work is really about making a difference in our community. Help us beautify the gallery this spring and summer. The Fletcher Galley is looking for local artists who are interested in exhibiting their work. The Gallery is open starting in June. Please contact Marcy Blumers at [email protected] if you are interested in exhibiting. We are also hoping to refresh the furnishings in the Gallery and are looking for a donation of a new table and eight office chairs. If your office is redecorating, or if you know one that is, please contact Director Jan Perrier for more information.
