Creative writing success!
DECEMBER 2015
Carlton Avenue East, Wembley, HA9 8PL www.brentlibraries.wordpress.com
Dear All,
2015 was the year when we re-opened Preston Library, and there are lots
of people to thank: thanks to everyone who fought and fought and fought
for four years to get our library back; thanks to the dozens of people who’ve
worked in the library, and to everyone who’s donated books, papers,
furniture, equipment, money; and thanks to Brent Council who gave us a
licence to use the building. And, finally, thanks to the many hundreds of you
who’ve borrowed our books, who’ve read our newspapers, who’ve used our
computers, who’ve come to our classes, our films and our quizzes, and have
shown how much we all value our local public library.
Last month we had a very positive meeting with Brent’s Library Service, and
I’m hopeful that in 2016 we will return to running a full library service from
the whole of the building. For the time being, we continue to open the library
on Saturdays and Sundays. I hope to see lots of you in the library in the
weeks and months to come.
Happy New Year.

Saman Shamsie Young Writers’ Project
On Jan 10th 2016, we will be presenting the young writers who
submitted their stories to the ‘Saman Shamsie Young Writers’
Project’ last Autumn, with their certificates.
We hope to arrange a Skype link up with Saman from Pakistan, who
will deliver a message to the children, and discuss the inspiration
behind their stories.
The collection of all the stories is to be made into a large book, which
will be added to the Library collection for others to read.

CINEMA CLUB
Saturday Night & Sunday Morning Films!
We will resume our Saturday Night films beginning 9th January 2016. This season we plan a
mixture of classics and 21st century films; 7:15pm for 7:30 start. Our first children’s film will be on
Sunday morning, 17th January at 10:45am.
In early February we will be hosting a special fund-raising film,at a local venue, with a Q&A session
with a film personality
Licence restrictions prevent us from publicising the film details outside our membership, so make sure
you are on our mailing list. The full program will be displayed in the library, sent out in our mailings,
and posted on our Facebook page. Films are free of charge, but donations are welcome to keep the
film club going.
Volunteers: If you have technical skills get in touch, as we need extra cover on the rota, to set up and
operate the projection equipment, plus help with preparing the room. Training will be provided.

We took part in the National Non-Fiction November

invited to join in and develop their
general knowledge, Maths

worked with their parents and
volunteers who supported them
to complete the puzzles and
play the board games.
