MISSION STATEMENT
1.To give shelter and give protection to children who are orphaned, neglected, abused as well as for
disabled and elderly people who are neglected, abandoned by family members.
2. To expose children who are orphaned, abandoned, abused and disabled to pre-vocational training and
working skills for the future.
3. To provide spiritual and educational activities for children who are orphaned, neglected, abused as well
as for disabled and elderly people who are neglected and do not have family / neglected by the family to
ensure physical and mental fitness restored and reserved.
4. To cater for, educate and equip surrounding community with living skills and basic required
knowledge.
PREAMBLE
Persatuan Kebajikan Kanak-Kanak Mata Air Kehidupan,Selangor is a home for orphaned, abandoned,
abused and neglected children . This home was set up to cater to the needs of the children who
are underprivileged and homeless. Persatuan Kebajikan Kanak-Kanak Mata Air Kehidupan, Selangor is
a non-governmental, self-supporting and self-sustaining body which solely depends on donation from
well-wishers and donors to sustain.
BACKGROUND
In year 2005, our founder, Pastor Abel Benjamin and his wife Mrs Esther Benjamin started giving
shelter to about 11 abused, neglected kids in their own premise. These kids from various backgrounds
were referred to them by individuals, and organizations who share the same objective, to help the needy.
Looking at the numbers increasing gradually, they decided that there is a need to accommodate the
childrens into a bigger space.This is when an organization came forward to provide the necessary funds
and provision in order to move in to a bigger space and to cater for more children.Therefore a bungalow
house was rented in order provide shelter to about 25 childrens in the vicinity of Batang Kali.
In the year 2012, after many challenges and hurdles, finally Pastor Abel, decided to run the
home independently. Thus, Persatuan Kebajikan Kanak-kanak Mata Air Kehidupan, Selangor was
registered and attained its official status as a registered organization on the 1 st of June 2012. A bungalow
was provided by an individual in Bukit Sentosa, Bukit Beruntung area.
Praise be to God as the home operates smoothly because of good hearted people from different
NGO’s, religious body, individuals and also corporate bodies who provides the necessary funds and
provision.
ACTIVITIES
CHILD COUNSELING AND SUPPORT
Counseling children and young people involves helping the child to develop a positive attitude to life, recognize
their strengths and express themselves. It does not involve making decisions for the child, imposing beliefs on
them or preaching. So we provide counseling which will be given by non-professionals who can understand and
relate to the child’s emotion. The session or support can be conducted in either group or in an individual setting
and has its own primary goal, the promotion of independent living philosophy and dealing with issues arising
from it.
EDUCATION
We often hire teachers and also get volunteers to teach the children according to their age group. School children
will be sent to local school and after they come back we will constantly monitor them to complete their
homework and do revision for their exams. For the smaller ones, they get to watch education videos. Once done
we will start teaching them English classes.
Beginning this year, 2013, we have started our very own Resource Centre in Hulu Yam Bharu. This is another
step we took to benefit the community around that area. Computer facilities and library will be set up in this
place. This idea came up as this area is lacking with such facilities. Apart from that, there will be also tuition,
English classes and also music classes to equip the children more. We strongly believe that through education we
are shaping the kids to become the leaders of tomorrow as said by W.B Yeats “education is not filling of the
bucket but the lighting of fire”.
MUSIC AND ARTS CLASS
Beside academic we also equip them sufficient music skills and arts such dancing singing and also handicraft
.This is to make the children well verse with enough skills to help them in the future, as we know children now
days are more knowledgeable and multitalented.
DAILY LIVING SKILLS
Since these children are from different background, we also make sure that they possess daily living skills such
cleaning, cooking, gardening, and so on. This is important because it will make them more independent and also
teach the smaller ones to manage themselves too. This is more like mentoring and taking leadership also and
ownership.
MATA AIR KEHIDUPAN IN ACTION
OUR NEW RESOURCE CENTRE
In May 2013, we started our very own resource centre in Hulu Yam Bharu,Hulu Selangor. The ultimate purpose
of this centre is to help and educate the community around Hulu Yam Bharu town especially the children. So far
almost 150 kids have benefited from this program. As our sole focus is to educate and create awareness among
the children, the centre is been equipped with books, computer, and other facilities. Besides just reading and
writing we also expose the children to arts via coloring, drawing, dancing, drama (play,musical and etc) and
music
