That ’s a Wrap!
The stage was set for fun as our fantastic Emcee Andy Avalos,
NBC5 Morning Meteorologist, and Event Chair Denise Izatt
directed the show and brought some Hollywood style to
the 24th Annual Celebrity Chefs Brunch!
After walking the red carpet and greeting the paparazzi, guests bid on great items in the silent and
live auctions, tried their luck at the raffle booth and 50/50 raffle. With wonderful wine tastings from
Mainstreet Wines & Spirits, beer from Two Brothers Brewing Co., and a mouthwatering menu, our talented
chefs once again proved that they are the best of the best! Chef Emilio Gervilla of Emilio’s Tapas in Hillside
was awarded the distinguished “Silver Bowl” award, voted upon by all participating chefs. Chef Emilio has
participated in the Brunch for an amazing 16 years!
In addition to our incredible Chefs, we are so very appreciative of all sponsors, guests, donors and
supporters. Without all of you, this event truly would not be possible and its success is critical to the
Holiday Meals on Wheels program and the seniors it serves.
A big thank you to our amazing volunteers: Chicago Bridge & Iron, Christ Church of Oak Brook, Volunteer
Match helpers, Agency on Aging staff, family and countless friends. A special thanks to Merle and Sue
Dickhans, longtime volunteers who have assisted with running the event set-up for many years and are
relocating out of state - you will be very missed!
A great time was had by all and we will do it all again this year on Sunday, November 6, 2016 - hope we can
count on you to join us! We will “party with a purpose” and strive to meet that critical goal of providing the
most basic of needs to our most vulnerable seniors...
ONE NUTRITIOUS MEAL A DAY, EVERY DAY!

The Impact of the Illinois Budget Impasse
Dear Friends,
Home is where we should be able to prosper and feel safe. Illinois is my home and for most
of you reading this, Illinois is your home, too! Now I ask you, do you want to live and die
here? Do you feel safe and prosperous here? Are you comfortable enough to defend Illinois
to your death? If your answer is no or you are the least bit hesitant to respond, it is probably
connected in some way to the Illinois state budget..or the lack of a State budget. This budget
impasse is threatening our safety, our prosperity, and our comfort.
Countless low-income families, children, older adults and persons with disabilities are
facing days without critical services and filled with future uncertainties. Already community
action agencies are reducing staff and hours of operation, cutting energy assistance
programs and interventions for the homeless and victims of domestic violence. The longer
the budget impasse lasts, the deeper the erosion to human services. Financial reserves
will be exhausted, lines of credit will be maxed-out, staff will be laid off, hours and days of
operation will be reduced, and finally doors will close.
Last year, home delivered meals postponed or prevented the institutionalization of more
than 87,000 homebound elderly. Adult protective service providers will not have the staff or
resources to investigate an estimated 19,000 reports of alleged abuse, neglect, and financial
exploitation. Those suffering from mental illnesses may not be able to obtain stabilizing
medications.
The Governor and the General Assembly need to ACT NOW to resolve their political
differences and enact a State budget. NO action has terrible consequences for all of us,
especially for our fellow citizens at greater risk. Let us raise our voices for those who cannot
speak for themselves. Governor Rauner, House Speaker Madigan, Senate President Cullerton,
and all our elected officials, come to the table of compromise and adopt a budget for the
people of Illinois.
Sincerely,
Lucia West Jones , CEO
