I will give thanks to you, O LORD, with all my heart,
for you have heard the words of my mouth.
— Psalm 138:1
HOLY, HOLY, HOLY!
“Holy, holy, holy!” Ancient languages, like the Hebrew
used in the scriptures, did not always have a way to
express superlatives in one word. Isaiah could not say God
was “holiest,” so he used the threefold repetition of the
same word. This bit of scriptural minutiae about these
“three little words” that we sing at every Mass serves as a
reminder that answering God’s call has to be grounded in
awareness of God’s holiness. In Isaiah and in the Gospel
passage today, we hear accounts of the revelation of God’s
power and might: the seraphim in the temple and the miraculous catch of fish. These are not wondrous revelations
for their own sakes. They lead to a response in mission,
Isaiah’s “Here I am, send me!” and the disciples’ leaving
everything to follow Jesus. And so must our own “Holy,
Holy, Holy!” lead us to Christ in the Eucharist every Sunday, and to a life following him day by day. Copyright © J. S. Paluch

Quinto Domingo del Tiempo Ordinario
7 de febrero de 2016
De todo corazón te damos gracias,
Señor, porque escuchaste nuestros ruegos.
— Salmo 138 (137):1
¡SANTO, SANTO, SANTO!
“¡Santo, Santo, Santo!”.
seguir a Jesús. De igual manera nuestro “¡Santo,
Santo, Santo!” nos lleva a Cristo en la Eucaristía de
cada domingo, y a una vida de seguirlo día tras día.

the way of Forgiveness and Reconciliation.” ~ Pope Francis
The Works of Mercy
The ways that we, as Catholics, can live as disciples of Jesus and members of the Church
include the Works of Mercy.
The Corporal Works of Mercy are acts of love that help us to care for the physical and
material needs of others:
Feed the hungry.
Give drink to the thirsty.
Clothe the naked.

The devotion to the Eucharist is the most noble
because it has God as its object; it is the most profitable for salvation, because it gives us the Author of
Grace; it is the sweetest, because the Lord is Sweetness Itself …
(Pope St. Pius X)

A day of Fast and Abstinence
Fasting prescribes that one full
meal a day be taken. Two smaller
meals may be taken to maintain
strength but these taken together
should not equal another full
meal. Fasting obliges from the
18th to 59th birthday.
Abstinence forbids the eating of meat.
Abstinence obliges from the 14th birthday on.
All Fridays of Lent are days of Abstinence
from meat.
This Lent, let us use the grace of the
Extraordinary Holy Year of Mercy to
contemplate on the mystery of
Mercy, the foundation of our life as
Church.
A prayer for Conversion of Heart…
Lord Jesus Christ, show me the way
to take up my cross each day so that
I can learn to love others as you have loved me.
Bring me a change of heart, for I know that religious observances alone are not enough. Help me
to purify my motives, let go of anything that
comes between you and me, and recognize you as
a source of all that is good in my life. Give me a
grateful heart and joy of your salvation. Amen.
