Gladys Berringer Camp Director
Winter 2014
MESSAGE FROM THE DIRECTOR
While I am writing this message, I realize the time is just flying by and 2013 is over and we have
successfully completed another camp year. The 2013 summer camp was awesome, our fundraising
events have generated us the needed funds and our last family event was well attended and a lot of
fun and fellowship took place. I look forward to our Winter Reunion planned for February 28th to March
2nd, 2014.
With the closing of this year we will be having a few changes on our Camp Organizing Committee. For a
number of reasons, the timing was right to change things up a bit.. Jean Stewart has submitted her
resignation from the COC and will continue to be a volunteer but needed to have more time at home.
With that a bit of a domino affect has happened… I have stepped down as Camp Director and will
assume my new role as Camper Registrar since Lynda Lawrie will now assume Jean’s duties as the
Family Support Coordinator. I am very pleased to say that Ashleigh Quarrell is our new Camp
Director and I know she will do an awesome job. Clara Butikofer has also resigned as our Fund
Developer/ Marketing and Media Coordinator and will continue to be a volunteer supporting Rosa
Carlino who assumed her duties on January 1st. Ashleigh will be taking on the Marketing and Media
role as part of her Director position. We have recruited a new Assistant Director and Volunteer
Coordinator and will be announcing the candidates soon.
Camp Quality is an amazing organization and I have been very honored to have been the director for
the past several years. As life is a journey so has been my time providing the leadership for our local
camp. I have learned a great deal and will continue to offer support to our new director as she leads us
forward.

Camp Quality Northwestern Ontario Fundraising 2013
As the door closes on 2013, there is lots to report on the fundraising support that was received in 2013. Funds were
received from: hockey fans and players, Mr. Lube customers, music students, music listeners, car washers, car lovers that
show and shine and enjoy poker rallies, runners, H.O.G. bikers, Inside Riders, body builders, people that want to see
someone (George Badanai) get a haircut, ticket buyers (for an ATV, 50/50 draws, West Jet or break open OLG tickets),
KOA Campers, community groups, pass the hat collections, Thrift shop enthusiasts, dress down campaigns, birthday party
and in memoriam donations. The depth and breadth of the various fundraisers was hard to keep up with. We apologize for
our delay in getting out receipts but the stars are aligning and our hope is that we are nearly caught up for the year.
Thanks to the many that supported us through the following events in 2013:
Dress Down Days at District of Thunder Bay Social Services

Camp Quality Northwestern Ontario Fundraising 2013 — Cont’d
The door is already opening on 2014 with proceeds from the St. Patrick’s High School Musical, “Wizard of Oz “ being
shared with Our Kids Count (May 5-10) . Our illustrious long time volunteer, Tricia DelPaggio, is the production director.
Watch for further details about free tickets for families and various lead up events. There is also lots of anticipation for the
2014 National Inside Ride.
While doors close and open, it is time for me to disappear out the back door in my role as main fundraiser.
Over the course of 13 years, a lot of major events (not
just fundraisers) have taken place in my life and the
more recent, being the birth of grandchildren. I am not
as lucky as many to have their family over for supper
every Sunday as my real family lives a distance away.
It is time for me to be available to them as “ they are
only little for so long” . My wonderful C.Q. partner in
crime in 2013, Rosa Carlino, has with trepidation
agreed to take on the role, but I know she has your
support to keep the fundraising wheels going. No
worries, I will be in the porch mentoring for 2014.
Adios and thank you for a remarkable but busy year!

CAMP QUALITY 2013
The NWO Camp Quality campers and volunteers “returned to
Neverland” on
Saturday, July 13,
2013. We
reconnected
immediately with a
boat ride around
beautiful Loon Lake
and a rockin’ dance
party! We were back
and ready to have a
great time.
Our “Disney on the Big Screen” week did not disappoint!
With a mix of some new adventures and some tried and true
favourites, the week flew by. We explored Amethyst Mine,
reminisced and were entertained around the campfire and participated in a variety of sports
challenges, including a great soccer game with the Police.
CAMP QUALITY 2013—cont’d
We did crazy things to our hair, searched for treasure, dressed up in costumes and produced a
hilarious fashion show; and rode Harleys with H.O.G.S. We made cool stuff in the craft shack all week
and loved boating and tubing with our Loon Lake captains.
On our final evening together we rocked on with our awards ceremony, karaoke, and a magical
fireworks display.
Sounds like a busy, fun, crazy, awesome time—doesn’t it? It was “Wonderland” revisited! See you
next year.
