A warm welcome
Keeping active
We all want the best for the people
we love, but there may come a time,
particularly if you’re responsible for
caring for someone with dementia,
when it becomes difficult to cope or
to ensure the very best quality of care
at home.
Experience has taught us that when older
people, particularly those with dementia,
are encouraged to continue to do things for
themselves, they benefit from improved health,
increased self-esteem and a sense of wellbeing.
At this point, moving your loved one to a
professional care home is often the best way
forward. Here at Heatherbrook we understand
that this can often be an emotionally difficult
decision, but should you decide this is right for
your relative, we’ll be there to help.
The superb facilities and comfortable
accommodation on offer at Heatherbrook,
together with our unrivalled standards of
expertise and experience in providing nursing
and palliative care for older people, including
those with dementia, will not only help your
loved one to continue receiving the very best
attention and quality of life, but also make the
transition easier for everyone involved.

At Care UK, we call this Activity Based Care (ABC)
and it is at the heart of everything we do at
Heatherbrook. Whether making a cup of tea,
laying the table or performing other everyday
tasks, we will provide the support needed to
help residents to remain as independent as
possible. Everyone sets their own pace, no-one is
ever rushed or made to do anything they don’t
feel like doing - our support and encouragement
is simply there if needed.
At Heatherbrook, we organise a wide variety
of activities, events and outings for residents.
Because we understand everyone has different
interests and abilities, we design our activities
programmes around what people enjoy.
Examples of our regular activities include cake
making, arts and crafts, skittles, reading and
pampering sessions.

We care
We take time to find out about each and
every one of our residents - their lifetime
of experiences, interests and memories.
We genuinely enjoy getting to know each
individual in our care and what we learn helps
us to create a care plan that is uniquely and
sensitively tailored around them; one which
enables them to continue enjoying a life that’s
as fulfilled, active and independent as possible.
This personalised care is also extended to our
residents’ families and friends too. We’re always
on hand if you need emotional or practical
support and we’re happy to help if you wish to
continue having a key role in your loved one’s
day-to-day care. You’re welcome to visit or call
whenever you like and we’d be delighted if you
want to join in our activities and excursions.

Our people
When we recruit new members of staff, we’re
just as interested in their caring, compassionate
natures as we are in their qualifications and
experience. After all, it’s those personal skills
that make all the difference between good care
and great care.
Every one of our residents will experience this
difference for themselves. Care is tailored
around the individual, and residents are always
treated with dignity and respect. The comfort
and health of our residents is our main priority
and we work on a one-to-one basis to ensure
each individual receives the care and attention
he or she needs to live a happy, fulfilling life.
As part of Care UK, we are committed to
continually improving the level of care received
by our residents and provide ongoing staff
training to ensure this is achieved.

Tempting menus
Home comforts
Everyone knows that one of the secrets of
enjoying life is enjoying good food and at
Heatherbrook we offer tasty home cooked
meals to tempt the taste buds.
All the bedrooms at Heatherbrook are large
and comfortable and feature en-suite sink
and toilet, and vanity units, stylish furniture,
television connection and a 24-hour nurse call
system. We encourage residents to personalise
their rooms and where possible to bring in small
pieces of furniture or other treasured items that
will help to create a space that’s familiar and
comforting to them.
Every day our chef selects fresh, seasonal
ingredients and plans tasty, nutritious menus
around residents’ individual likes and dislikes
as well as any special dietary and cultural
requirements. We make sure there is always
plenty of choice on each menu and our chef
finds out what residents’ favourite meals are
so they can be regularly included. Snacks and
drinks are always available and we are delighted
to cater for celebrations such as birthdays and
other occasions.
Mealtimes are an enjoyable and important part
of the day at Heatherbrook and we always
extend our hospitality to family members and
friends when they drop by for a visit.
On each of our two floors, we offer a choice of
lounges so residents can choose to be amongst
friends or opt for a quieter space when they
want to relax, or entertain their visitors. We
also have a ‘themed room’ which we adapt for
different occasions.
To support residents with dementia, we have
included a variety of thoughtful details around
the home that are designed to stimulate
discussion and to aid memory, accessibility,
comfort and security.
Outside, our secure gardens feature flower
beds, beach themed area, lawn and a patio
area and are the perfect spot in warmer months
for residents to meet up with their friends
and family.
