You will gain valuable work
experience combined with a
challenging classroom program.
Step 1: Shelton State Community College
Upon graduation, you will receive an associate’s
degree and the necessary work experience to be
a valuable teammate at Nucor.

Please provide a high school transcript (2.75 GPA
preferred) and your SAT or ACT score. Preferred
candidates will have taken 4 of the following high
school courses:
Algebra I
Geometry
Algebra II
Mechanical/Drawing
Computer Science
Advanced Mathematics
Chemistry
Physics
Technology Elective
Classroom training will be held at Shelton State
Community College in Tuscaloosa, Alabama.
On-the-job training will be held at your home mill
during school breaks and in Tuscaloosa during
school sessions.
With our experienced Nucor teammates providing
hands-on training, you will have a chance to
learn from the best in the business!
Hourly pay is covered for class
hours and work hours.
You’ll be paid $10 per hour for the first year…
even with no experience. Based on performance
and a 3.0 GPA or higher, your hourly rate could
move to $12 for year two and $14 for year three.
Once you’ve completed the three-year program,
you will move into a full-time Nucor Maintenance
position.
Tuition and books are paid
by Nucor each semester as long as you
maintain a 3.0 GPA.
And housing assistance is available to
make it easier for you to move to Tuscaloosa if needed. Nucor will also provide
a travel allowance to assist with the
required moves between Tuscaloosa
and your home mill.
Work side-by-side with Nucor
teammates dedicated to teaching you
not only how to do the work, but how to
work the Nucor way.
You will train at Shelton State Community
College, a high-level school which has
industrial equipment similar to Nucor’s.

Step 2: Nucor Selection Process
Complete the Nucor Willingness Questionnaire

Submit the Student Information Sheet and the
written essay following the guidelines provided
on the website.
