EX245/VQC4000: Safety features
The system has an excellent performance capability for the complete actuator system on robot grippers. Even the
integration of several vacuum generators with energy saving functions can easily be realised on the valve manifold:
1. Actuation of the power gripper with manual application in inserting stations.
Function:
- The power gripper with manual application is depressurised in the basic setting of the valve.
Sheet metal parts can be removed and inserted and the power gripper can be
closed by hand.
- As soon as coil 14 is energised the power gripper is supported in its force
by the pressure. The single-sided valve interlock means that the switch position
remains, even in an emergency stop situation.
- Brief actuation of the coil 12 opens the power gripper and the valve switches to the
basic setting.
2. Self-holding for heavy lifting and swing drives.
The valve VQC 4501-5-X8 is used, together with the pneumatic
logic control, to secure heavy loads in their end position.
Especially in the event of a power-free emergency stop case, the cylinder
pressure is topped-up for the individual end position.

Is the weld line free from
weld spatter?
Weld spatter causes stress to both machinery and
people. Resulting in machine breakdown and subsequent
downtime.
SMC's pin clamp cylinders and processing units are
fitted with highly effective weld spatter strippers for long
term durability of the devices, which have proven to be
tried and tested even in laser cabs.

CKZP/WSZ:
Pin clamp cylinders types CKZP/WSZ are available with
piston diameters 32 mm, 40 mm, 63 mm in heights 40
mm and 60 mm. All common pin mountings in diameters
10 mm and 16mm are available.
For pneumatic pin clamp cylinders with manual
actuation the type WSZ40-0040-CEL00295 has been
developed.

Our guide unit MGPA:
In bodybuilding, the MGPA guide unit has proven itself
many hundreds of times in many European automobile
factories.
Using standard brackets and standard shims the
centralisation pins can be moved into position rapidly
and effectively. The normal 30x32 mm flange pattern
and the integrated inductive sensor ensure fast installation
and operation. The integrated pre-tensioned recirculating
ball guides also increases the twist tolerance of the unit.
A highly effective weld spatter stripper is also fitted and
therefore no other protection measures are required.

Just gripping!
This gripper clamps the plate both with and without
toggle lever. The patented toggle lever maintains the
holding force, even when the pressure is removed.
Available in (diameter) 32 and 50mm

In bodybuilding, designs are required where vertical loads must
be secured and dynamically braked. In order to exclude any
potential danger, cylinders for vertical operation must not move
when they are depressurised. For this application there is the CLS
cylinder series by SMC. These cylinders feature a dynamically
bidirectional acting brake which acts in depressurised condition
with its failsafe design.
Loads up to 33.6KN can be secured in this way (cylinder
diameter 250 mm). The position of the brake can be detected
using magnetic switches.

What spare capacity do you have up to the
load limit of the robot?
Vehicle design places ever stricter demands
on the design of robot grippers and fixtures,
whilst the flexibility of manufacturing lines
need to be ever greater. What demands does
this place on clamping technology?
Particular emphasis must be placed
on:
(1) Weight of 40 power grippers on
a robot gripper
(2) Durability at constant
clamping torque (MTBF)
(3) Visual Management for
maintenance even under bad
lighting conditions.

compatible
The AVL start delay valve protects both man and machine.
The greatest possible venting capacity is used to depressurise
the plant by cutting the electrical supply or by pushing the red
palm button. The speed of pressure build-up when re-starting is
adjustable.
For simple equipment installation, integration in the SMC
maintenance unit is easily achieved and mounting using
pipework is, of course, also possible.
The AVL is lockable in the venting position using a padlock without electrical initiation of the red palm button.
A pressure switch can be fitted instead of the pressure gauge
to provide an electrical signal concerning the pressure status to
the subsequent compressed air mains supply.

Two-hand control without
electrics?
Two-hand control is always required when the safety situation
demands it and if no other start functions are permitted. Typical
applications can be found in presses and automatic welding
machine areas, as the potential for crush type accidents in
these areas is increased.
Plants with safety switching
When actuating, injuries such as crushed
fingers can be prevented if both hands are
needed to actuate the valve buttons.
