Those who recently passed away: Copyright © J. S. Paluch Co. “You were buried with him in baptism, in which you were also raised with him through faith in the power of God, who raised him from the dead.” MICHAEL CHURCH PARADISE HILLS, SAN DIEGO Pastor’s Message Dear Parishioners and friends, Let us welcome a new group in our parish. They are called the Mother Butler Guild or MBG. The MBG is the first in San Diego. The members have already completed a half-day seminar and orientation on the history of the Mother Butler Guild and their duties, which are: • Clean vestments of priests and liturgy • Clean sacristy (sacristy near the altar, sacristy of the priests, sacristy of ministers) • Clean the inside Church (or nave of the Church) • Clean the sanctuary areas and the vestibule • Clean and wash purificators, pall, etc. • Clean sacred vessels and other sacred containers: chalice, cups, ciborium, monstrance, tabernacle, etc. • Change holy waters • Supply, arrange and struck envelopes for the pews. As you can see, we have new altar covers and the symbolic sign hanging on the wall of the altar. These are from the MBG. The Mother Butler Guild was formed with the inspiration of Mother Marie Joseph Butler, original name Johanna Butler (born on July 22, 1860 in, Ballynunnry, County Kilkenny, Ireland; died April 23, 1940 in Tarrytown, NY, USA). Mother Marie Joseph Butler was a Roman Catholic nun who founded the Marymount schools in Europe and in the United States. In 1926, she was elected Mother General of the Congregation of the Sacred Heart of Mary, making her the first American head of a Europeanbased Catholic order. In 1927 she became a naturalized U.S. citizen. In addition to educational institutions, she founded the Mother Butler Mission Guilds for social service and instituted the retreat movement for laywomen. The cause for her canonization was opened in 1948. Fr. Manny Ediza A JOURNEY OF FAITH with Fr. Do you have a few minutes? I would be thrilled to meet with you after Mass today. Please stop by and “meet the principal”. I have information to share about St. Michael Academy! Let me show you why and how you can afford the gift of a Catholic education for your child or grandchild. If you cannot stop by and visit today, I invite you to call the office and schedule a tour of the school. Please phone: 619-470-4880, or, e-mail: [email protected]. Fr. Manny continues to offer a $1,000 discount to new families enrolling in the Academy. Yours in Christ, Mary Johnson, Principal St. Michael Preschool • • • • • • We have great news!!! Our St. Michael Preschool is flourishing… Here are some of the details that I would like to share with you. RCP Block & Brick Company has donated $4,000.00 in pavers to upgrade our very worn out back yard. Our workers are doing a great job and we will have a beautiful back yard by September. Our enrollment for the summer program has increased and is bringing us added families for the upcoming school year. Our present students are having a wonderful time enjoying school activities and learning much. With much support from our alumni families, our enrollment has increased and must open an afternoon class for the 4-year olds. This increased enrollment is a validation of our curriculum and the evaluation of a fine job by our member families. We have accomplished this without increasing tuition for three years. The preschool is now a year round school which will be open twelve months and closed only on Diocesan holidays. Our curriculum is intensifying; we will be including Spanish classes to our students, launching some of our students to becoming multilingual. (www.mycatholicsource.com) PROPER ATTIRE INSIDE CHURCH The sacredness of the Church as the House of God and the Eucharistic celebration urge all participants to dress and manifest the importance of what they are doing. "The mystery of the Eucharist has found historical expression not only in the demand for an interior disposition of devotion, but also in outward forms meant to evoke and emphasize the grandeur of the event being celebrated." [Ecclesia de Eucharistia, no. 49] "For all of you who were baptized into Christ have clothed yourselves with Christ." [Gal 3:27] Saint Michael the Archangel, defend us in battle. Be our protection against the wickedness and snares of the devil. May God rebuke him, we humbly pray; and do Thou, O Prince of the Heavenly Host - by the Divine Power of God - cast into hell, Satan and all the evil spirits, who roam throughout the world seeking the ruin of souls. Amen.
