Mass Intentions
Today’s Gospel Reflection
1st Reading: Jer 20:7-9 * Psalm 63:2-6, 8-9 *
2nd Reading: Rom 12:1-2 * Gospel: Mt 16:21-27
DOING GOD’S WILL
The language of Jeremiah as he
addresses his yearnings to God—he
says, “You duped me, O LORD, and I let
myself be duped” (Jeremiah 20:7)—
indicates a close and personal relationship with God. It is one the prophet obviously cherishes despite the derision and
reproach it brings him. In the Gospel,
Jesus indicates a similar bond with his Father. In spite of the
difficult challenges presented by following God’s will, Jesus is
not deterred. Giving up our own worldly cares and dreams,
even as we accept pain and suffering, is more than a fair
exchange for doing the will of God.
The only way to do God’s will is offer our whole selves to
God. As St. Paul writes in the Letter to the Romans: “Do not
conform yourselves to this age but be transformed by the
renewal of your mind” (Romans 12:2a).
Copyright © J. S. Paluch Co.
“Be transformed by the renewal of your mind, that you may discern
what is the will of God, what is good and pleasing and perfect.”
— Romans 12:2
HACER LA VOLUNTAD DE DIOS
El lenguaje de Jeremías al dirigir sus anhelos al Señor
diciéndole: “Me has seducido, Señor, y me dejé seducir por
— Romanos 12:2

ST. MICHAEL CHURCH
PARADISE HILLS, SAN DIEGO
PASTOR’S MESSAGE
Dear Parishioners and friends,
Every now and then I am compelled to remind you of the following:
•
Always read our parish bulletin and visit our website www.stmichaelsandiego.org.
You may also give your donation on-line.
•
If you are not yet a registered parishioner of St. Michael, I invite you to do so. To be a registered
parishioner is to belong to a parish community. And as a registered parishioner, we are able to better
serve you. One of the advantages of a registered member is that you are able to claim your donation
towards your income tax returns. If you are not a registered member of our parish, there will be no
record of your contributions. We will not be able to provide a statement of your donations during the
year when you file your income tax returns. Also, there may come a time when you will need a certificate of good moral character. And, without your name on our records, we will not be able to issue
you the certification that you may need.
•
Consider sending your child or grandchild to our preschool or in our Academy. It is always a good
investment to mold your child into a strong and good moral character, and a strong believer in God.
The future is uncertain. A person molded into a good moral character founded on Christ and of the
teachings of the Church is like a house built on rocks. When the storm comes, that house will stand
firm.
•
Thank you for being a parishioner of St. Michael.
***********************************************************
I, together with the Cebu Clergy Performing Artists, thank the hosts, the working committees, the
sponsors for the priests’ meals and tickets to SeaWorld, to the “Padres Cantantes” and the combined
choirs of St. Michael, and all those who, in one way or another, have contributed to the success of the
concert “Saulog sa Pagtoo” (Celebration of Faith) held on August 21 & 22, 2014.

TWENTY
TWENTY--SECOND SUNDAY IN ORDINARY TIME
AUGUST 31, 2014
Blessings from St. Michael Academy to the St. Michael Parish Community!
The first week of school is behind us! We are now settling into the routine of daily classroom responsibilities. Please continue to keep the Academy in your prayers as we continue to work “to form disciples to
be spiritually, intellectually, and socially prepared to integrate gospel values for living a Catholic, Christian
life in a secular world.” (SMA Mission and Vision)
Encountering roadblocks at the beginning of the school year is common. This year was no exception!
At the last minute, Ms. Elise Hennrikus took over as our Junior High Language Arts and 8th grade Religion
teacher. We are very pleased to have her join our Academy family. When you see Ms. Hennrikus, or any of our wonderful staff
members, please take a moment to say hello and introduce yourself.
Enrollment/registration is an ongoing process at St. Michael Academy. We are a Kindergarten through 8th Grade
school. Call the office and schedule a tour of the Academy. Give us an opportunity to show you how the cost of your child’s
Catholic education can fit into your budget. Call 619 470-4880, or e-mail Mrs. Lewis @ [email protected].
Fr. Manny offers a $1000 discount to new families enrolling in the Academy.
Yours in Christ,
Mary Johnson, Principal

Saint Michael the Archangel,
defend us in battle. Be our
protection against the wickedness and
snares of the devil. May God rebuke
him, we humbly pray; and do Thou,
O Prince of the Heavenly Host - by the
Divine Power of God - cast into hell,
Satan and all the evil spirits, who roam
throughout the world seeking the ruin
of souls. Amen.
