2016 Program Book.pub - Palatine Township Senior Citizens Council
Dear Friends,
As the Palatine Township Senior Citizens Council’s (PTSCC) Board Chair,
I welcome you to our 16th Annual Caring Hearts Gala – Gala of
Thrones: A Medieval Ball.
Our mission is to provide programs and services that support older
adults and their families by encouraging independence, well-being,
and connection to the community. Last year, we served over 2,800
adults 50 years or older - residing mostly in Palatine, Buffalo Grove,
Rolling Meadows, Arlington Heights, Wheeling, and Hoffman Estates.
Here are just a few ways we help the Palatine Township area:
•
We offer social, recreation, education, nutrition and health services
to older adults in need. PTSCC is proud to have Latino and Russian
bi-lingual and bi-cultural staff available to ensure we meet the
needs of the diverse population we assist.
•
We provide free transportation to medical and/or dental
appointments to clients who lack other means of travel.
•
We operate an adult day program for older adults with mild to
moderate Alzheimer’s disease or dementia.
•
We deliver meals to those who are homebound and unable to
prepare meals for themselves.
These services are offered at multiple locations including the
Community Resource Center and numerous apartment complexes
densely populated by older adults throughout the surrounding
communities.
We could not accomplish all we do without the help and support of
many amazing people. Thank you to our corporate and community
supporters, ongoing funders, center members, those who have
donated to our endowment, numerous volunteers, including our
dedicated Board of Directors & the Gala Committee and, of course, our
extremely dedicated and hard-working staff.
Thank you for being here tonight!
Cheers,
Karen Fay, Chair
PTSCC Board of Directors

Come hither, tonight we celebrate the Palatine Township Senior Citizens
Council’s 16th Annual Caring Hearts Gala – Gala of Thrones, A Medieval Ball.
Welcome and thank you for attending. An evening with kings, queens,
knights, renegades, liars, lords, honest men and fantasy await.
A medieval group of people contributed to the preparation and facilitation of
this great event, as well as to the on-going operations of the PTSCC. Their time
and effort is immensely appreciated and recognized with much thanks.
•
Thank you Gala sponsors for the support your partnership brings to
strengthen the event and increase each attendee’s experience.
•
Thank you to all the individuals and businesses whose generous
contributions resulted in this evening’s stunning silent and live auction
items.
•
Thank you Betsy Storm, Guest of Honor, for helping people tell their life
stories.
•
Thank you Gala committee members and volunteers for all your hard
work which made this event possible.
•
Thank you Carol Reagan, Executive Director, Kate Johnson, Development
Associate, Lauren Milani, Development Assistant, and the entire PTSCC
staff for your continued enthusiasm, commitment and devotion in serving
the senior community.
•
Thank you Board of Directors for your foresight and guidance in the
pursuit of PTSCC’s Mission to provide programs and services which
support older adults and their families by encouraging independence,
well-being, and connection to the community.
•
Thank you Michael Noens for your technological and video skills to
showcase our home delivered meals program.
•
Thank you Norm Andrews, Live Auctioneer, for donating your time and
talent for this evening’s auction experience.
A huge thank you goes out to you and each event attendee as well. Your
bigheartedness and unsurpassed generosity are vital to the success of the
PTSCC. Your support truly changes lives and makes a substantial difference for
seniors and their families.
Tonight we celebrate during our Medieval Ball. Enjoy delectable food, dance
to the music of The Original Rockin’ Fenderskirts. Throw down your shield and
share your generosity as you explore and bid often on silent auction items,
partake in raffle opportunities and participate in the live auction.
Winter is coming!

Our Mission. . .
is to provide programs and services which
support older adults and their families by
encouraging independence, well-being
and connection to the community.
Who Are We?
The Palatine Township Senior Citizens
Council operates the Palatine Township
Senior Center, the first accredited senior
center in the Northwest suburbs of Chicago,
and only one of five in the State of Illinois.
Only three percent of the approximately
11,000 senior centers in the United States are
accredited.
For over 40 years, the Council has provided
education, health, wellness, and social
services, in addition to nutrition and
recreation for adults 50 and older. An
independent, private, not-for-profit
corporation, PTSCC is governed by a
voluntary Board of Directors.

Noted Auctioneer
C. Norman Andrews
Over forty years ago,
Norm and his wife were
attending a charity
event where the auctioneer failed to show up.
Norm volunteered to call
the auction, and thus
started a second career.
He has called over 400
auctions and appeals
and raised nearly eight million dollars, and has
never charged for his services. Since retiring
from his first career 15 years ago, he has
averaged over twenty-five auctions a year.
Norm states that his Father used to say that the
time you spent volunteering does not count
against your life. He lived to age 95.
Norm believes you should find the time to
volunteer, even if it is only a few hours a week.
You will find that it is rewarding, and will give
you a wonderful feeling. Norm is looking forward
to a great event tonight, and thanks you for
participating!
