CLUB NEWSLETTER WWW.CHRISTIANCLASSICCRUISERS.COM MARCH 2012 2012 Cruise Season: March 17th 5-9 PM April 21st 5-9 PM th 5-9 PM May 19 th June 16 August 18 Chaplain’s Message: EVIDENCE 6-10 PM July 21st 6-10 PM th 6-10PM September 15th 5-9PM October 20th 5-9PM 2012 Meeting Dates: (Start time: 7:30 PM*) January February 10th th 14 (Valentine’s Dinner) March 13th April 10th 8th May June 12th July 10th August 14th September October November I CORINTHIANS 8:3 "BUT IF ANY MAN LOVE GOD, THE SAME IS KNOWN OF HIM" I was in an automotive parts warehouse not long ago and saw an interesting sign hanging on their wall. It read: "If you were arrested for being a salesman; would there be enough evidence to convict you?" The phrase kept running through my mind and I began to ask the same questions about other parts of my life. It became a rather interesting thought process. Try it out on any aspect of your life and see what kind of ideas come to mind. If you were arrested for being a street rodder; would there be enough evidence to convict you? If they looked in your wallet, what would they find? Your NSRA membership card? A couple of raffle tickets for a 350 Turbo Transmission you bought at the last rod run? A membership card from your state association? If they went into your home, what would they see? Plaques on the walls? Dash plaques from all the rod runs for the past several years? A Merit Award? A Safety Award? Pictures of your vehicle with all the family gathered around? A collection of rod run mugs? Game plaques? Copies of Streetscene, Street Rodder, Rodder's Digest or any of the other periodicals that we receive monthly? 13th If they searched your garage what would they find? Your street rod? Could you possibly hide all the miscellaneous pieces that remain from all the past cars? How about all the swap meet items? How about all the miscellaneous fenders, headlight buckets, unused brushed aluminum parts, an old car club plaque? Car show posters? High performance decals on the cabinets? Creepers? Tools? 11th Would there really be any problem convicting you of being a street rodder? I would venture a guess that each of us would easily be found "guilty" ! th 11 9th (Election) December VOLUME 3, NUMBER 3 (Christmas Party) (* Note: come at 6:30 for social time and dinner with friends!!) What if you were accused of being a Christian? How much evidence could be found? Would you be found "guilty" or would there be a "lack of evidence"? How would you stand the test? Club information and 2012 cruise season flyers were distributed to interested parties at the show. JB's Pontiac won a "Class Winner" plaque and Cort's Chevrolet won an "Outstanding in Class" plaque. Thanks to Dwain Klopfenstein and other club members who helped JB and Cort get their cars to the show and displayed properly at the show. Thanks to JB for designing and printing some temporary club flyers (since all the sponsors were not finalized yet we didn’t have this year’s flyers ready for print). Historians Views: How about that Valentines party? Everybody had a great time and the food was pretty good. But you know; the fellowship was the best thing there. It was difficult having the party following Jim’s funeral, but Jim would have said, go on to the party and have fun … I might not sound like a historian in this writing, but not so, I loved hearing the history about our friend Jim as spoken by his friends, and learning more of Jim’s humor. History is a funny thing, sometimes kind, sometimes harsh and sometimes NADA. What I learned about Jim was well worth the few minutes I celebrated his life in his passing and I feel like I know more about Jim now than I did when he was poking fun at us and having great fellowship with us. Often, folk don’t really take the time to get to know each other, and just remembering names at our age is sometimes a big event. So, I think I will take a cut at interviewing some of the oldest and most cunning members of our club just to see if they have a past, or any history. Then if I am successful at that, I might take a cut at us younger folk. Page 4 There are a few of the older crowd that have given significant effort, hard labor and much time to the birth of the Christian Classis Cruisers (CCC) for many years, and they continue to do so much to lead and encourage our club. I think I will start with that crowd to see what they can tell us about themselves, the history of the club and a little or a lot of humor about themselves and the good times when they were the mainstream hot rodders. Fact is, most of them (The older folk) don’t have much memory left, so the information will undoubtedly be mostly suspect, regarding facts. But what the case, most of us like to stretch the truth a little. I think it might be informative and fun to know what we are made of, historically speaking… Next month, our classical President will be the target for the historian, so Gary, drink your Ensure Protein Drink and prepare to answer a question or two. You might want your Bride to write some things down for you to remember to me… Bill Please send Club History information to: Bill Crow, CCC Historian [email protected] Reyna Kinnan, CCC News Letter Editor [email protected] Judging: March will be our first show of the season. Bits and Pieces: A wealthy man and his son loved to collect rare works of art. They had everything in their collection, from Picasso to Raphael. They would often sit together and admire the great works of art. Vietnam conflict broke out, the son went to war. He was very courageous and died in battle while rescuing another soldier. The father was notified and grieved deeply for his only son. About a month later, just before Christmas, There was a knock at the door. A young man stood at the door with a large package in his hands. He said, 'Sir, you don't know me, but I am the soldier for whom your son gave his life. He saved many lives that day, and he was carrying me to safety when a bullet struck him in the heart and he died instantly. He often talked about you, and your love for art. The young man held out this package. 'I know this isn't much. I'm not really a great artist, but I think your son would have wanted you to have this.' The father opened the package. It was a portrait of his son, painted by the young man. He stared in awe at the way the soldier had captured the personality of his son in the painting. The father was so drawn to the eyes that his own eyes welled up with tears. He thanked the young man and offered to pay him for the picture. 'Oh, no sir, I could never repay what your son did for me. It's a gift.' The father hung the portrait over his mantle. Every time visitors came to his home he took them to see the portrait of his son before he showed them any of the other great Page 6 works he had collected. The man died a few months later. There was to be a great auction of his paintings. Many influential people gathered, excited over seeing the great paintings and having an opportunity to purchase one for their collection. On the platform sat the painting of the son. The auctioneer pounded his gavel. 'We will start the bidding with this picture of the son. Who will bid for this picture?' There was silence... Then a voice in the back of the room shouted, 'We want to see the famous paintings. Skip this one.' But the auctioneer persisted. 'Will somebody bid for this painting? Who will start the bidding? $100, $200?' Another voice angrily. 'We didn't come to see this painting. We came to see the Van Gogh's, the Rembrandts. Get on with the Real bids!' But still the auctioneer continued. 'The son! The son! Who'll take the son?' Finally, a voice came from the very back of the room. It was the long time gardener of the man and his son. 'I'll give $10 for the painting.' Being a poor man, it was all he could afford. 'We have $10, who will bid $20?' 'Give it to him for $10. Let's see the masters.' The crowd was becoming angry. They didn't want the picture of the son. They wanted the more worthy investments for their collections. The auctioneer pounded the gavel. 'Going once, twice, SOLD for $10!' A man sitting on the second row shouted, 'Now let's get on with the collection!' The auctioneer laid down his gavel. 'I'm sorry, the auction is over.' 'What about the paintings?' 'I am sorry. When I was called to conduct this auction, I was told of a secret stipulation in the will... I was not allowed to reveal that stipulation until this time. Only the painting of the son would be auctioned. Whoever bought that painting would inherit the entire estate, including the paintings. The man who took the son gets everything!' God gave His son over 2,000 years ago to die on the Cross. Much like the auctioneer, His message today is: 'The Son, the Son, who'll take the Son?' Because, you see, whoever takes the Son gets everything! FOR GOD SO LOVED THE WORLD HE GAVE HIS ONLY BEGOTTEN SON, WHO SO EVER BELIEVETH, SHALL HAVE ETERNAL LIFE...THAT'S LOVE Page 7 Classic Car Trivia: (answers will be in next month’s newsletter) Henry Ford invented the 1908 Model T.
