Cordon Bleu Du Saint Esprit
Cordon Bleu Du Saint Esprit - Norway ORDER of THE HOLY SPIRIT WITH BLUE RIBAN A short overview of the first two years of the Norwegian Chapter Founded 9th April, 2011 in the Eidsvoll Building On 27th May, 2010, five friends with a background in gastronomic arts, Espen Welin-Larsen, Terje Størkersen, Carl Martin Faannessen, Lars T. Carlsen and Tor Herman Næss met to discuss starting a Norwegian Chapter of Cordon Bleu du Saint Esprit. A year later their efforts came to fruition with the official founding of the Chapter on 9thApril, 2011 at Eidsvoll. The Guest List included a large international representation, with the Order’s Grand Master, Karl Heinz Kindervater, and the Master of the Danish Chapter, Karl-Otto Smith, to the fore. The Eidsvoll Building, which played such a central rôle in modern Norwegian history, provided a perfect setting for the Founding Meeting of this international Order and the establishment of a Governing Council. A guided tour of the historic Buildings was followed by a short account of the history and aims of the international Order. Reflecting the common background of the Norwegian Founders and first new Members, emphasis for the new Chapter was placed upon promoting the gastronomic arts. The Eidsvoll Building at Eidsvoll Verk, in Akershus County, played a central role in modern Norwegian history. It was here, in 1814, that the Norwegian National Assembly wrote the Constitution for an independent Norway and approved Christian Frederik as King. Soirée at Herredshuset Jessheim 9th april, 2011 Following the meeting at Eidsvoll, the gathering repaired to the Herredshus (local county hall) at Jessheim, a listed building which is now a restaurant. Asle Fannessen was host for the evening’s programme which consisted of: Investiture of the Governing Council and Master of the new Norwegian Chapter Investiture of new Dames and Chevaliers – 2 from abroad and 10 from Norway 5-course dinner with wines, with an account of relevant Norwegian gastronomy. This provided a perfect setting for the 2nd Soirée of the Norwegian Chapter. With a 10-course menu, this was fully in the classic mould of CBdSE. During the evening, Artist Berit Fagerlund presented the Chapter with a watercolour of the Order’s Insignia and a number of other pictures were auctioned-off in support of the Chapter’s future work. The original restaurant was opened in 1916 by Tidemanns Tobacco company but this was replaced in 1929 by today’s building by Lars Backer. Now listed, this is a major European example of the new functionalist architecture of the period. Rescued from a period of decline, a recent major renovation has restored the building Soirée at Ekeberg restaurant, Oslo, 19.10.2011 Komtur of Denmark, Officers, Dames and Chevaliers of the Norwegian Chapter.
