Lincolnville, Maine… Bettina Doulton and Lani Stiles announced today that their Pop For Change initiative has exceeded its goal of mobilizing 400 volunteers to donate their time to four mid-coast charities. The initiative, which came to be through the reinvention of Cellardoor Winery’s and Megunticook Market’s annual Pop The Cork event, was created to bring like-minded individuals together who want to do more for their community. “We are overwhelmed and humbled by the enthusiasm shown for Pop For Change,” said Bettina Doulton owner of Cellardoor. “So many people stepped forward, our charitable partners have all the help they need and we are no longer recruiting volunteers. It’s truly an incredible outpouring of support,” she added. “When we decided to recast our Pop The Cork event, we wanted to focus on the organizations who benefit from the money raised,” said Lani Stiles proprietor of Megunticook Market. “That’s where the idea for Pop For Change came from and we are grateful to all the individuals and companies who have stepped forward. The fact that we had to stop recruiting volunteers is truly a blessing,” she continued More than 2,000 hours of time have been donated to United Mid-Coast Charities, MCH Meals on Wheels, Coastal Opportunities, and Hospitality House. And it’s not just individuals volunteering, area businesses like Frost & Bryant, Horch Roofing, Evergreen Home Performance, Bangor Savings Bank, Midcoast Masonry, Mt. Battie Car Wash, and Allen Insurance & Financial formed volunteer teams for Pop For Change. While volunteers are no longer needed, the public can still cast their votes to determine which of the four organizations noted will receive $100,000 and which will get $20,000 at the sold out Pop The Cause on June 26. Votes can be cast at popforchange.com. -30-
