Dramático: Maestra de Kinder Protege a Niños Durante

El aplomo y dulzura con que una
maestra de un kinder tranquiliza
a sus pequeños alumnos durante
un tiroteo ocurrido cerca de una
escuela ha sido destacado hoy en la
prensa mexicana, que muestra un
vídeo en el que los niños cantan al
tiempo que se escuchan ráfagas de
armas largas.
En el vídeo, que ha sido subido a

aseguran fue tomado ayer cuando
en un lugar cercano sicarios mataban a cinco personas en el sur de
la ciudad de Monterrey (México),
se escucha a la maestra pedir a los
pequeños que no se asusten, que
no les va a pasar nada, pero que
permanezcan en el suelo.
La imagen, al parecer tomada con
un teléfono celular, muestra a los
pequeños tirados al suelo siguien-
do las instrucciones de su profesora
que les pide en tono cariñoso que
pongan sus caritas en el piso.

Medios
de televisión han señalado que
los niños pertenecen a un kinder
del barrio La Estanzuela, cerca de
donde ayer fueron asesinados cinco
hombres por sicarios que viajaban
en dos vehículos. El diario Reforma señala que presuntamente la
imagen de los niños fue captada en
Nuevo León, cuya capital es Monterrey.
La versión no ha sido confirmada
oficialmente.
Desde hace varios meses Monterrey es escenario de una cruenta
guerra entre carteles de las drogas
rivales que ha dejado centenares de
muertos.
Esta semana en tres acciones violentas ocurridas en la zona metropolitana de Monterrey murieron 17
personas y varias resultaron heridas, entre ellas una niña de cinco
años.
Desde el año pasado el gobierno
de Nuevo León comenzó a impartir cursos de capacitación a miles
de maestros para que sepan cómo
reaccionar ante tiroteos presentarse
tanto en las escuelas como en sus
inmediaciones.

Durante la mañana del pasado un
grupo armado llegó a las instalaciones de la Dirección de Seguridad Pública Municipal de Ciudad
Valles, San Luis Potosí y realizó un
ataque.
Testigos señalan que los pistoleros viajaban en al menos cinco
vehículos de reciente modelo,

San Jose City Council Approves
Agreement on Concessions
with Police Union
The San Jose City Council this
afternoon unanimously approved
an agreement with the San Jose
Police Officers’ Association on
concessions that will save the jobs
of 156 police officers. A tentative
agreement was reached on June 3,
but was not ratified by the members of the association until this
morning. Union members voted
674-429 in favor of ratifying the
agreement. Even with the concessions, the city is still expected to
lay off around 100 police officers
amid a $115 million budget deficit,
David Low, a spokesman for Mayor
Chuck Reed, said.
The terms of the proposal include a 10 percent reduction in
salary and benefits for a savings of
$12.9 million, but allow an arbitrator to decide whether the reduction will be ongoing or one time. If
the arbitrator decides the reduction should be ongoing, the contract terms will be for two years
and if it is one-time, the terms will
be for one year. The terms also
allow the city to outsource policing at the airport. Negotiations on
pension reform and sick leave payouts, however, are ongoing.

The San Leandro Police Department is currently seeking Adam Pasillas on a warrant
charging him with assault. According to Detective Jeremy Rocha, on May 15th 2011,
Adam Pasillas allegedly initiated a bar fight at the Paganos Sports Bar. Pasillas and
several friends allegedly targeted two victims and Pasillas’s brother ultimately stabbed
the victims. The brother was arrested and charged with two counts of attempted

Police have released a sketch of a man suspected of sexually assaulting a woman last
weekend. A woman was entering her apartment in the 300 block of Carl Street last
Saturday when a man followed her inside the lobby, grabbed her from behind and
began sexually assaulting her, police said. The woman kicked the suspect numerous
times, prompting the man to flee outside of the building and onto Carl Street,
according to police. Police arrived at the scene, but were unable to locate the man.
Officers described the suspect as a white man in his mid 20s who is about 5 feet 10
inches tall, weighs about 180 pounds with short, straight, light brown hair and light
stubble or a goatee on his chin. The man was last seen wearing a brown or dark green
pullover sweatshirt, which the woman thought was made out of hemp, police said.
He was also wearing blue jeans and a tan-colored hemp necklace, police said. Please

a Firearm, Possession of a Dangerous Weapon, Vehicle Hit and Run and Receiving
Known Stolen Property. He has been wanted by the California Dept. of Corrections

Sergeant Kenneth Vann was
shot and killed in an ambush while
stopped at a red light on Rigsby
Avenue at 2:12 am.
He was responding to a nonemergency call and had stopped
for a red light at the intersection
of Rigsby Avenue and SE Loop 410.
A car pulled up next to his patrol
car on the passenger side and the
occupant immediately opened fire
with no warning. Sergeant Vann
was struck by multiple shots. His
patrol car rolled through the intersection and was stopped by crash
barriers. He succumbed to his
wounds before arriving at a local
hospital.
The shooter fled the scene in
the vehicle and remained at large
for one week. On June 5, 2011, Mark
Anthony Gonzales was arrested
by law enforcement officers at his
home and subsequently charged
with capital murder. He is being
held on $1.5 million bail. A motive
has not been reported by investigators.
Sergeant Vann was a U.S. Marine Corps veteran and had served
with the Bexar County Sheriff’s Office for over 24 years. He is survived
by his wife and three children.

Deputy Sheriff Kurt Wyman
was shot and killed during a standoff following a domestic disturbance in Knoxboro, New York.
Officers responded to the
scene of a domestic disturbance
at approximately 9:00 pm when
the man barricaded himself in his
garage with a firearm. Negotiators
were attempting to get the man
to surrender when he opened fire
on them at approximately 2:00 am,
killing Deputy Wyman.
The suspect was also shot in
the exchange of gunfire and taken
into custody.
Deputy Wyman was a U.S. Marine Corps veteran and had served
with the Oneida County Sheriff’s
Department for four years. He is
survived by his expectant wife and
18-month-old son. His wife went
into labor upon being informed of
Deputy Wyman’s death and gave
birth to his daughter.

Police are searching for a man suspected of sexually
assaulting a woman near University of California, San Francisco’s Parnassus campus
last week. At approximately 11 p.m. on April 15, UCSF police received a report that a
woman was sexually assaulted near Lincoln Way and Third Avenue. Police described
the suspect as a white man with fair-skin, standing about 5 feet 7 inches tall. The man
has a thin to medium build with short, brown or blonde curly hair, officers added.
The suspect is reported to have unusual piercings on and around his face, including a
black piercing across the bridge of his nose, piercings on each nostril and one piercing
centered directly beneath his lower lip, according to police. Police said that the man
had a slight speech impediment and was last seen wearing a salmon-colored hooded
sweatshirt and blue jeans. Officers received reports of two other assaults near the
Parnassus campus that evening, as well as a report by another woman that she was

Maple Gold
Human Trafficking
The Hayward Police Department is currently seeking Maple Gold on an outstanding
$350,000 warrant alleging that she was involved in illegal Human Trafficking,
Pimping, Pandering and Conspiricy. Detective Ryan Cantrell reports that after a
one year investigation, Gold was determined to be the alleged leader of a Asian
Brothel and Human Trafficking Operation that was based in Hayward, California.
The criminal organization is also alleged to have extended to several other cities
in the San Francisco Bay area, including Sunnyvale, Oakland, Concord, Berkeley,
Fremont and Danville. On January 20, 2011, detectives conducted a large scale search
warrant resulting in extensive suspect and victim interviews. Evidence also allegedly
identified that Gold utilized international recruiting connections to bring in several
dozen Asian females from China and Taiwan and forced them into prostitution. It
is suspected that Gold, who is an American citizen by marriage, may have returned
to Taiwan or China. Gold also has ties to Southern California in the East Los
Angeles County area. The suspect is also known to use the aliases of Wen Yen Gold
or WenYen Qiu and drives an unknown color, 2004 Infiniti FX35 registered to her.

The Sixty Second Rule

Parents, listen up. Sixty-seconds is
about all we get when talking to
our teenager.
One minute. That can’t be! How is
that possible? Meaningful conversations seem rarer during the teen
years and when the opportunity
arises many of us feel the urge to
go all out and “teach them” when
we do talk. But after the first sixtyseconds most teens tune out. After
that, you might as well be talking
to the family dog.
The problem is we continue to
blabber on to drive home our
point. We don’t stop even when the
clues are there that our teen has
checked out. We may go on for another ten minutes. But unless there
is a genuine conversation happening, a two-way exchange, your child
has probably tuned out after the
first sixty-seconds.
You know what I am talking about.
How many times has your son said
something like, “How come you
never told me?” Or, “I hate that you
dictate my life. You have no respect
for my schedule.” Inside you are
thinking, “But, honey, I did tell you.
Last night!” In truth you may have
shared the information with him
last night, but that long one-sided
conversation wasn’t absorbed. So,
you both are right.
Are teen brains really different
from adult brains? Yes.
Scientists used to think that a person’s brain was fully developed by
the young age of 3. However, with
the use of magnetic resonance
imaging, or MRI, they are now able
to see what is happening inside
the brain. What they now know is
that the brain goes through major
reconstruction from about 12 to
25 years of age. This helps explain
why teens turn into emotional
minefields, engage in risky and rebellious behaviors, and can appear
temporarily insane at times. What
these imaging studies are revealing is that the brain may be behind
much of these typical teenage
behaviors.
It’s important to understand this
when we try to communicate with
our teens. They don’t think like we
do - yet. Most teens are easily distracted and only have the ability to
listen for about one minute. Unless
the subject matter is particularly
interesting or entertaining, or unless they are actively engaged in
the dialogue, their minds basically
start to roam after the first minute.
So what can we do?
We can start with making sure we
have our teen’s attention by making eye contact. Then judiciously
choose one simple point to make
and say it in sixty-seconds or less.
After that, stop talking. As in, shut
up. If s/he wants more information
s/he will ask us. If our teen engages
us in more conversation we may
have the opportunity to slip in another point, but remember to keep
it under one minute. As parents, we
sometimes long for a more meaningful and lengthier discussion,
but we have to learn to be comfortable with what our teen gives
for the time being.
We can learn to improve the communication between us and our
teen by practicing the Sixty-Second Rule!

The US Marshal’s Office is currently seeking Edward Salas on a warrant charging him
with Escape. According to reports, Edward Salas is the last outstanding inmate to
have escaped from the Curry County Adult Detention Center in August 2008. Edward
Salas was due to be transferred to a New Mexico state prison to serve his sentence for
the Murder of 10 year old Carlos Perez, when he escaped with seven other inmates.
Salas has a tattoo on his back of “SALAS” and a tattoo on his right arm of “LISA”. On
September 15, 2005, Salas and an accomplice Noe Torres shot Carlos Perez nine times
as he was sleeping in his bed. Salas was convicted and Torres was never apprehended.

The Tracy Police Department is currently seeking Daniel Eugene Tallman on a
warrant charging him with murder. Detective Edward Campbell reports that on
June 6, 2011, at about 12:15 pm, Tracy police officers responded to a shooting. The
victim asked Tallman a question about a lost animal. As the victim was leaving,
Tallman allegedly shot the victim as he was walking away. Tallman is known to use
the alias of Danny Boy and has an extensive criminal history and is currently on

The Clovis Police Department and 9th Judicial District Attorney Office are currently
seeking Noe Torres on a warrant charging him with the murder of a 10 year old
boy. According to detectives, on September 15, 2005, Noe Torres and Edward Salas
allegedly shot 10 year old Carlos Perez nine times as he lay sleeping in his bed. Salas
was later convicted of the murder but escaped from jail and remains at large. Torres
was never apprehended. Noe Torres is possibly in Tampico, Mexico, but has ties in
Clovis, New Mexico, Lubbock and Amarillo, Texas as well as Albuquerque, New

Bonehead Award
St. Clair County, Illinois, spent
$330 million dollars for a new airport that no airline was interested
in using. For one year, the airport

Movie Critics Corner
Hangover 2

It really says a lot when
I can do a pretty accurate film
review based on a movies trailer
alone. Where the first film was
very original and a surprise hit,
the sequel is almost quite literally
a shot by shot remake of the first
film with minor changes. Where
the first film was very welcomed
for its original plot, characters,
and humor, the second film takes
no risks and looses much of what
made the first one so great: originality and surprise. It’s still a very
enjoyable film, but the fact that
there is so little deviation from
the original formula is a considerable let down. You don’t even really
need to watch the entire movie
for this to be evident, just watch
the two trailers at the same time,
the shots literally sync
up to each other.
As for the plot
itself, if you’ve seen the
first film, you know
what to expect. Zach
Galifianakis’ character spikes his friend’s
drinks causing them
to forget the night
before, again. Ed Helm’s
character does something regrettable to
his face, again. The
three friends must
find a missing person
in a large city, again. (This time
Las Vegas is traded in for Bangkok,
Thailand) They are racing against
the clock to arrive at a wedding in
time, again. I’d be able to use the
word again over and over again
to describe this movie. This movie
feels like the writers of the script
were playing Mad Libs with that
of the original. The biggest irony
is that the film is a shock comedy
but those making the film were so
afraid to alter the original formula
in the slightest.
Despite all of this, it was
still an enjoyable film. It’s difficult
to recommend a movie you’ve essentially already seen before but if
you’ve enjoyed the first one, you’ll
like the second one as well.
