wo generations of chefs have been trained at Le Gavroche. Many of them, like Pierre Koffman,
Marco Pierre White and Gordon Ramsay have gone on to run their own Michelin starred
establishments. Michel Roux is still only a young man, but it would seem he will leave a great
mark on the restaurant scene in this country.

dispense with the necessities of
life and indulge in its luxuries.”
It is difficult to assess exactly how a total feeling of luxury is generated at Le Gavroche. Each element food, service, decor - makes its own contribution. But ever since it first opened its doors that feeling has
always been evident.
The fact that the reputation of Le Gavroche continues to ride high in the eyes of critics and customers
now rests firmly on the food being prepared by Michel Roux. This remains classically based. There are no
flashy tricks or novelty items. The quality of the ingredients remain supreme. Respect for them lies at the
heart of each dish. Chapel’s influence may be seen in Michel Roux’s insistence that all meats and poultry
be cooked on the bone, which gives it greater flavour and texture, and all are carved at the table, which
all adds to the ceremony of eating in a great restaurant.

Hempel’s original white room and is

linen clad 4-poster bed with swathes of
Muslin ‘mosquito” nets makes the room
mysterious and magical. Antique bed
linens are mixed with crisp Frette sheets,
