« Sublime... » LEARN MORE ABOUT THE PARTNERSHIP BETWEEN PAINTER CAROL BERNIER AND LEUCAN. SOIRÉE Sublime DE LEUCAN VISUAL ART GENESIS In the spring of 2015, artist Carol Bernier made a surprising acquaintance… Dr. Claude Mercier, neurosurgeon at the Sainte-Justine UHC, insisted on introducing her to his colleague, Dr. Benjamin Ellezam, a neuropathologist. As a painting enthusiast, Dr. Mercier drew some parallels between the microscopic images of his colleague and certain pieces of art. They are “terrible beauties”… Various diseases. Everything we fear. And yet! The artist discovered gracious nebulas; patterns whose sweetness does not betray the aggressive sickness that produced them. The diseases have names but the samples were anonymous. The artist could freely use them as an inspiration. Her « Sublime… » project transcends the horror. « Sublime… » represents hope. INVOLVEMENT Carol Bernier graciously agreed to collaborate with Leucan, the Association for children with cancer. She will create various artworks, including wooden art pieces, engravings, artist’s books, works on canvas, and a big collective art piece created with cancer-stricken children. Her new artwork will be unveiled at a vernissage at Galerie Simon Blais on October 5, and then put on sale until the evening of The Leucan Experience. THE LEUCAN EXPERIENCE The 2016 Leucan Experience, presented by RBC Royal Bank, is the annual gastro nomic benefit event of the Association for children with cancer. It will take place on November 3 at Cirque Éloize, under the honorary presidency of Mr. Martin Thibodeau, President, Quebec Headquarters, RBC Royal Bank. CAROL BERNIER Carol Bernier lives and works in her native Montreal. Very prolific since 1995, Carol Bernier’s work has been shown as part of several individual and collective exhibitions at Galerie Simon Blais, her representing gallery. Bernier’s work is also shown across America and Europe, and many of her pieces are featured in public, private and corporate collections. Her curiosity about the various art forms has led her to Hungary and then France, where she was initiated to the art of engraving. Presented by
