HATZIC MIDDLE/SECONDARY SCHOOL (604)826-3651 Website: hss.mpsd.ca Dear Parents and Guardians: Students are now well into their courses for this year! Kudos, especially, go out to Ms. Copley and Mr. Merry, for getting the Grade 12 students on track and into their selected courses, this being a most important year for them; having the necessary courses to be eligible for graduation. Our Volleyball, Cross-Country, Running and Volleyball teams are up and running. Auditions are happening for our Musical Theatre Program – the turnout has been terrific. It is wonderful, seeing so many students involved in extra-curricular programs and joining school teams. Mr. Vos and his Leadership Students were responsible for organizing and choreographing the very successful Terry Fox Run last week. A substantial amount of money was raised for this very worthwhile cause: Cancer Research. Thanks go out to all of the staff who helped to supervise this event. This week, on Tuesday evening, the grade 10, 11 and 12 students were invited to attend a very valuable, informative session at Heritage Park Secondary School. They had the opportunity to get first-hand information from BC’s universities, colleges and technical institutes, to help them plan their future! Grade 12 students were also given helpful hints about applying to universities and colleges for next year. During the first week of school, Grade Meetings were held with all of the students, to go over the goals, expectations of our students, as well as our school’s Code of Conduct and the Dress Code. It is expected that all students will continue to be very respectful both for themselves as well as for each other. We appreciate the support of both students and parents/guardians in fostering this respectful behavior in our school community. The first PAC meeting of this school year will be held on Friday, October 4th at 9 am here in the school. We ask that you please come to the office to check in (and check for location of the meeting within the school). Parents/Guardians are cordially invited to attend this first meeting of the year. Please see inside this newsletter for upcoming events which are being planned for the students this year. SEPT. 2013 Administrators: Mrs. S. Gibson Principal Mr. W. Checkmymark allows students and parents with internet access to log in at anytime from anywhere to check the status of a student in a course or courses. To log into this site, go to https://www.checkmymark.com/; next, select student/parent, find Hatzic Secondary, enter username (student’s last name), and then password (provided to students by the teacher). Only one password is needed to access any of your student’s classes available on Checkmymark. Some teachers will already have sent home a slip of paper that included the password and verification for email addresses. If email addresses were accurate then parents might also have received an email, containing login instructions, from teachers, using Checkmymark, inviting them to check out the marks program. Family email addresses are also important for teachers using Checkmymark to send home information such as short reminders of upcoming activities in their classes to interim reports. Make sure to Check it out!
