Committed to the Marketplace - a Letter from our President
Dear Customer,
Pace is committed to the success of our customers, vendors and this industry, and on behalf of our company, thank
you for your commitment to the Pace team.
On October 6th of 2008, we announced our partnership with DISH Network as their
national distributor for hardware and content for operators in the multiplatform
marketplace. With our DISH Network partnership, we are now able to support our
customers with a complete, book-ended solution that simplifies their business and
drives profit. We are committed to the triple play marketplace, and are
helping our customers ‘Capture their Community’ with the first scalable,
and fully supported business model.
Along with launching a complete DISH Network solution, we have also teamed up
with new hardware partners around the globe: Televes, a manufacturer of premium
quality QAM hardware that supports DISH Network digital services and DISH HD
solutions for MDU and commercial applications. Televes, based in Spain, was the
first company to introduce QAM technology to the DBS marketplace. I am showing my
full support of this company because I believe in their products, service, and dedication to this industry. In fact, I will be
participating in the Running of the Bulls in Pamplona, Spain, this year on July 9th to prove that commitment and our
commitment to you. To follow this story as it develops, visit my blog www.paceintl.com/vern
In addition to offering a new QAM product line, we have made a commitment to Olson Technologies to offer
our own line of fiber products, called MVP Fiber Optics. We are pleased to also be offering the DISH Optical
Network solution hardware. We are proud to put our MVP™ brand on these products, and will be adding more MVP™
products this year as well.
We hope that you find this booklet useful, and we are, as always, committed to your success. If you have any feedback
or suggestions, please feel free to email me at [email protected].
Yours truly,
Vern Swedin

QAM Headend Technology
For over 51 years, Televes has been delivering digital
television to the world, operating in over 56 countries, and
serving billions of subscribers. They were the first company

Save Time! Save Money! Maintain System Integrity and Customer Satisfaction.
The Televes CDC Headend Management System lets you
create and control headend configurations whatever the
size (max. 254 devices). The Headend Management System
lets you monitor the headend, either locally or via remote
control (using a modem). This feature will save the operator
time by reducing truck rolls to check operating status. This
will also enable the service technician to accurately diagnose problems and solve them remotely or ensure that the
proper replacements are brought to the site.
Headend Management System
Featured Products
With the Headend Management System the user is capable
of configuring and monitoring all of the controllable devices
in a headend from a single point using a Windows Application.
By using the CDC Headend Management System the
operator can:
Change the configuration of the headend transmodulators, avoiding truck rolls to simply re-configure.
Use an OSD (On Screen Display) subsystem to monitor
the system’s operational information on an RF channel.
Quick scan of the whole installation searching for defects.
System maintenance and diagnostics can be done remotely.
Quick mode transfer of a specific configuration in a headend thereby avoiding having to configure each element
independently.
This makes the configuration of each headend uniform and
easy to execute.
The CDC system is built around a controlling device which
carries out the interface function between the user and the
headend components in an installation.
The controller receives commands in local or remote mode
and it carries out the programming and/or monitoring of the
devices that are connected to it by means of the communications bus.
CDC - Headend

Remote Headend Controller
The headend controller allows remote control of a headend by
using an external modem connected to the phone line or local
control by connecting a PC directly to the headend controller.
The offered services are:
·· Remote programming of devices
·· Headend’s state monitorization
·· Upload the configuration of the headend from a PC
·· Generate a private TV channel
·· State screen information of the headend devices
This address is a parameter that can be configured from the
remote control in the range from 1~254.

QAM Technology
QAM (Quadrature Amplitude Modulation) Technology is the method in which
operators can offer their customers digital programming using a standard
‘cable’ infrastructure. This is accomplished by using a TDT (Transparent Digital
Transmodulator) to modulate the digital signal from the satellite transponder,
and all of its contents, onto a 6 MHz channel assignment. Typically there are
8~12 standard definition or 2~6 HDTV channels per transponder. This is achieved
not by compression, but by removing the FEC (Forward Error Correction) and
encryption from the QPSK (Quadrinary Phase Shift Keying) satellite signal. This is
not compression, the signal integrity is robust.
This technology enables us to deliver hundreds of digital signals in the 54-860
MHz frequency range and will function on “loop-through” distribution systems.
The customer will need a QAM-compatible IRD (Integrated Receiver Decoder) or
a Q-Box and IRD in each unit. The QAM-compatible IRD or Q-Box converts the
QAM signal back to a signal the receiver or TV can understand. The customer
is able to choose from any of the DISH Network Digital programming packages
offered.
Benefits of QAM Technology
Opens huge untapped market quickly on existing properties
Bandwidth reduction eliminates most rewiring situations
 Works with loop-through wiring
It can be inserted into the existing distribution network without modifying the
user’s installation
For use in the distribution of digital signals in single-cable networks
It uses the terrestrial frequency band 54-860 MHz
Latest digital technology for subscribers allowing them to access multiple satellites from a single coax without the use of voltage or tone control
This is achieved by demodulation of the QPSK signal to IF (Intermediate Frequency) and re-modulation to a QAM format
This is not recompression, as the signal quality remains intact
“One of the most important decisions we were faced with
when we started in the business was the choice of vendor
for our QAM equipment. Televes’s equipment is of the highest quality and their support is the best in the industry and
the price is right. Their remote management capability and
reliability helped us cut down on operational costs. It was an
excellent decision!”

SMATVCATV
Pace has always been known for reliable, high-quality hardware matched with
our unparalleled customer service, and you can count on us for the best in DISH
Network headends.
What makes a Pace Headend?
Build: Our engineers will custom design each
system. Each part is carefully inspected, assembled,
and inspected again to ensure top performance.
Burn: Systems are operated under load for 72
hours to ensure proper operation of all electronic
components. This guarantees audio and video clarity
and stability in real world environments.
Balance: All modulated channels are set to an equal
output value. Audio levels are set at 15 dB below video
levels. All channels are calibrated to display consistent
brightness and volume.
When the headend meets our exacting standards, the
technician completes a Certificate of Calibration and
makes initial entry onto included maintenance log. Our
headends are shipped in custom made crates along
with documentation.

SMATV-CATV Featured Product
Digital ATSC or QAM Demodulator
DAC-860
The DAC-860 receives an ATSC or QAM RF signal and
converts it to analog video and audio in letterboxed
16:9 or centered in 4:3 outputs. It has a digital terrestrial F-connector input and composite video and audio
outputs for connection to a TV set or re-modulation
into an analog modulator. The DAC-860 also converts
the Information Carrier into the analog output so SAP
and closed-captioning can be controlled by the end
user instead of at the headend. The robust modular
package is designed for commercial applications.

A Fiber Solution for the MDU Community
The DISH Optical Network is designed for a FTT-unit within
an MDU environment.
The DISH Optical Network is a high capacity WDM (wave
division multiplexing) optical transport system capable of
delivering up to four 950-2150 MHz L-band dual-polarity
satellite networks to the end user on a single strand of SMF
using standard PON architecture.
The full baseline system will support up to 256 units. The
system is scalable to a larger number of taps by deploying
multiple DISH Optical Network Headend cabinets.
The headend processor will aggregate up to 4 band stacked
L-band inputs from Echostar Dish Pro LNBFs.
By allowing up to 2 ODPP-43’s in each residence, each
residential tap can support up to 6 RF output ports utilizing
DISH Networks Dish Pro Plus technology.
This means that each of the 256 residential taps will each
support up to 6 dual tuner receivers.
DISH Optical Network
Products
The DON-PON Kit from Pace
In order to simplify the installation of your DISH Optical Network, Pace has “kitted” another solution.
The Pace DON-PON kit includes all the necessary
components to complete one “base” installation, 256
units. The kit includes the jumpers and optical splitters
needed to connect the DON headend to the ODPP-43
subscriber device. The installer will simply need to
terminate the single-mode fiber (not included) with
SC/APC connectors on the splitter side and FC/UPC
connectors on the subscriber side.
The Pace DON-PON kit includes:
17 – MVP™ 1x16 optical splitters / Part # MVP-OP-16
(featured on page 31)
A total of 3072 viewing locations!
1 – SC/APC to FC/UPC jumper to connect headend to
1st splitter / Part # ASC-UFC-RS-001-Q-0003
16 – SC/APC to SC/APC 3m fiber jumper to connect
optical splitters / Part # ASC-ASC-RS-001-Q-0003
DON Featured Products
Available in addition to the kit are 2-way optical splitters
for placement of 2 ODPP-43 in each unit.
DON Headend Processor System
The headend is supplied in an indoor
rated, wall mount, metal enclosure with
dimensions of 18” x 18” x 8”. The unit
is supplied with a grounded, 3 prong
power cord and is designed to be
plugged into a 120 VAC outlet.

OFF-AIR
Off-Air Featured Product
An off-air HD solution is the perfect
complement to any L-band or SMATV
system.
Add an off-air antenna and a multi-channel profiler to any
system and step up your offerings with local HD programming. You’ll receive not just a few local channels available
over satellite, but all of the available channels in your area.
The multi-channel profiler is an efficient and cost effective
way to deliver off-air channels, and gain customer satisfaction with clear signals from all available local sources. The
profiler is an excellent alternative to processing off-air
channels individually, with more expensive equipment.
The off-air antenna offers easy installation and the profiler
ensures clean, filtered, and b
 alanced signals. Pace can help
with everything needed from system design to product
procurement.
Want to know your options? Contact your account manager
to find the best antenna you need based on the area you are
in and the type of content you want to receive.
Let us help you get the competitive advantage. By adding
an antenna and a multi-channel profiler, your solution can
easily offer all available local HD channels available in your
area.

production results in a reliable amp that delivers high signal level, low
power consumption and a unique 4+1 output.
Its small size and design allows for versatile mounting locations such
as walls, roofs, patios, attics and railings. Plus, the Square Shooter
can be mounted above a satellite dish using Winegard’s DS-1000
home satellite mounting kit and diplexed with the existing satellite
coax cable, incorporating both the satellite and Square Shooter OffAir signals on one cable.

RTA Enclosure
RTA182410
New to Pace’s Ready-To-Assemble
line, the RTA Comm Box™ (patent
pending) folds down to one-fifth
the size of other telco enclosures for
easy transport. Like the RTA Rack,
the Comm Box™ has been designed
to simplify operations for your installers. The back and sides of the RTA
Comm Box™ are all hinged. It folds
open, fits into the bottom, and can
be secured to a rack in minutes.
Less Space Taken Up in your

No other telco enclosure offers
the easy storage of the RTA Comm

down to 2×11×24”. With more lock
boxes on hand, there’s less need
to expedite shipping for a rush
installation. The small size makes
the RTA Comm Box™ more versatile
for storage on shelves, fitting easily
in small spaces.

SBCA Certification
SBCA National Standards and Testing Program (NSTP) is a
certification program that teaches installers critical information about satellite installation. To gain certification you
must pass a standardized test.
Our courses include:
SBCA Fundamentals
and expectations they will need to successfully install and
maintain a satellite system. The program is designed to
assess the skills and knowledge of a satellite technician.
SBCA - MDU/SMATV Essentials
The objective is to be able to design systems using either
L-band or SMATV in commercial settings such as bars,
restaurants or MDUs. You will learn how to review, critique,
and create illustration designs, troubleshoot, and assist less
experienced installers.
The SBCA Fundamental course is designed to provide
students with an understanding of the basic knowledge

H45
·· Positive ID multi-lock algorithm

Digital Processing is finally here
The H45 meter has been designed
to obtain all of the information
instantaneously from the signal by the development of mathematical
algorithms. Up to 20 MHz digitally captured in less than 10 ms. That
simple, yet that dramatically important and difficult to develop. Only
Televes could be the first to do it in a small field strength meter. Realtime sweeping speeds. Unprecedented preciseness. Unthinkable
versatility. What color TV was to black & white, or how broadband
DSL compares to the old rotary dialing….that is what the H45 with
Digital Processing is to other portable meters. A total revolution.
