The Multimap engine
The Multimap editor allows to select a set of RIM images (located in the same folder or sub-folder), that will
be then displayed according to the zoom level and the position of the cursor. The generated MIM file can be
then loaded in the Project Manager.
The Multimap function is independent from the resolution, the coordinate system, the area covered by the
RIM files used and from the zoom used for display: the right RIM files will be selected and displayed.

Creation of Multimap
1.1
Creation of *.RIM files
1.1.1 One by one
The creation of one *.RIM file can be done in the Files/Import menu by using the Convert IMG to RIM…
function.

Select the image file (*.IMG) you want to convert.

Select the palette file (*.PAL) associated to the image.
•
Specify the path of your destination file (*.RIM) and click on Save.

1.1.2 Batch mode
The creation of several *.RIM files can be done in the Files menu, by using the Multimap editor… function:
The Batch conversion IMG+PAL function allows the batch conversion from .IMG and .PAL files (the source
file) to .RIM files (the destination file). A command line as a text file needs to be created.

By clicking on the button, the format of the text file you have to generate is displayed:
To create a text file, you need first to open Notepad.
•
Then, specify the path of your source files:
The source files are always a combination of two files: the image file and the palette file.
The image file can have two extensions: *.IMG and *.IC1.
The palette file has always the same extension: *.PAL.
•
The next step is to specify the path of the destination file. The destination file will be the *.RIM file.
To create a second *.RIM files, you just have to restart the procedure describes above.
The separation between the different blocks is a line starting with at least 3 consecutive minus characters.

Once you have created your text file, save it.
Then, go back to the Multimap editor, click on the Batch conversion IMG+PAL button, click on OK and
select the text file you have just created.
If you have well created your text file, the following message should appear:
Click on OK. The batch conversion is carrying out and the files are created.

Creation of *.MIM files
The creation of MIM files is also done in the Files menu, by using the Multimap editor… function.
To create a new *.MIM file, open the Multimap editor… box, go to File/New…
Select the multimap of images, and click on OK.
Then, create the *.MIM file in the folder where you copied all your *.RIM files.

ICS Telecom will scan automatically all the *.RIM files available in the corresponding folder. In this example
France50m.RIM and rivera2.RIM.
Then, click on Add all to add all the maps to the Multimap.

2 Loading a Multimap
2.1
In the parameter box
To load a Multimap, you can go the Project manager box and load the *.MIM file and its corresponding
palette.
Click on Save project and Load.
2.2
By using the change map… function
To use the change map… function, a project must be already loaded.
Then, right click on the map and select change map…
Click on select map…
And select the *.MIM file you want to use and the palette associated.

If you right click again on the map, you have the possibility to switch back to the previous image which was
loaded. But the Multimap is not associated to the project.

By using the map server function
To use the map server… function, a project must be already loaded.
Then, right click on the map and select change map…
Select the *.MIM file you want to display (§ 2.2).
Right click again on the map and select save map server…
Give a name to the new *.MAP file you want to create.
The *.MIM file has been loaded, and has been automatically saved in the Project manager box.
This Map server file is now associated to the project. That means that each time you will load this project,
the Multimap will be also loaded.

Mosaicking
With the Multimap and for a certain zoom level, the image that will be displayed could be a combination of
different *.RIM files having the same scale or different scale.
For example, you might face the following situation:
Your image (*.MIM) is made of:
•
A group of *.RIM files at scale 1
•
A group of *.RIM files at scale 2
•
No *.RIM file.
That means that depending on your zoom level and the position of your cursor, 3 different types of image
can be displayed
This situation is described just below.
Zoom level 1:

Use of the image datasets at different scale
If you want to display an image at a specific scale because you want to use only this scale, you can create
a .*MIM file that would contain all the.* RIM files at this specific scale.
For example, for the same area you have the possibility to use an image at 250K and 50K.
You create a first *.MIM file containing all the .*RIM files at 250K.

Then, you create a second *.MIM file containing all the .*RIM files at 50K.

Both multimaps can be accessed by using the Change map function, that you can access by making a left
clik on map.

The last step will be to build a third *.MIM file that would contain all the *.RIM files, whatever the scale.
In that case, ICS Telecom will display the best map, 250k or 50k, according to your zoom level.
