WHEN FLÁVIO CANTO DECIDED TO HANG HIS JUDO GEAR,
actress Fiorella Mattheis, who was in Globo TV soaps like Malhação
and Fina estampa, decided to surprise him: on her own, she arranged
a trip for the two of them. The chosen destination was a small Central
American paradise: Tamarindo, in Costa Rica. The location is known
mostly for its appeal to tourists in search of great waves. “The almost
deserted Playa Negra became our favorite. While Flávio surfed, I jogged
on the beach. The tides vary a lot and the view changes every hour. It’s
beautiful!” Because natural beauty is among the main attractions, environmental tourism is very developed there. “Some beaches are off-limits
because they are laying grounds for turtles,” Fiorella tells. Nighttime
turtle watching during the laying season, in fact, is one of the region’
attractions, next to activities like fishing, zip-lining and horseback riding.
