9/26 - Tropicana - The Guess Who: The Guess Who are a
Canadian rock band from Winnipeg, Manitoba. Initially gaining recognition
in Canada, the group also found international success from the late 1960s
through the mid-1970s with numerous hit singles, including “No Time”,
“American Woman”, “These Eyes” and “Share the Land”. Several former
members of The Guess Who, notably Burton Cummings and Randy Bachman
(of Bachman–Turner Overdrive), have found considerable success outside the
band.The band was inducted into The Canadian Music Hall of Fame in 1987. In
2002, Randy Bachman, Burton Cummings, Garry Peterson, Donnie McDougall
and Bill Wallace received the Governor General’s Performing Arts Award for
Lifetime Artistic Achievement, Canada’s highest honour in the performing arts,
for The Guess Who’s contribution to popular music in Canada.
9/26 - Borgata - The Band Perry: The Band Perry is an American
country music group composed of siblings Kimberly Perry (lead vocals, guitar,
piano), Reid Perry (bass guitar, background vocals), and Neil Perry (mandolin,
drums, accordion, background vocals). They signed to Republic Nashville in
August 2009 and released their self-titled debut album on October 12, 2010.
From this album, “If I Die Young” reached number one on the U.S. Billboard
Hot Country Songs and Hot Adult Contemporary Tracks charts and has been
certified quadruple platinum. Their second album, Pioneer, was released April
2, 2013. It produced additional number one singles in “Better Dig Two” and
“Done”, plus the Top 10 hits “Don’t Let Me Be Lonely” and “Chainsaw”.
10/2 - Caesars - ZZ Top: ZZ Top is an American rock band that formed
in 1969 in Houston, Texas. The band comprises guitarist and lead vocalist Billy
Gibbons (the band’s leader, main lyricist and musical arranger), bassist and colead vocalist Dusty Hill, and drummer Frank Beard. One of the few major label
recording groups to have held the same lineup for more than forty years, ZZ
Top has been praised by critics and fellow musicians alike for their technical
mastery. Of the group, music writer Cub Koda said “As genuine roots musicians, they have few peers; Gibbons is one of America’s finest blues guitarists
working in the arena rock idiom while Hill and Beard provide the ultimate
rhythm section support.” Since the release of the band’s debut album in January 1971, ZZ Top has become known for its strong blues roots and humorous
lyrical motifs, relying heavily on double entendres and innuendo. ZZ Top’s musical style has changed over the years, beginning with blues-inspired rock on
their early albums, then incorporating new wave, punk rock and dance-rock,
with heavy use of synthesizers. One of the best-selling musical artists in history, the band has had global album sales in excess of 50 million as of 2014.
ZZ Top was inducted into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame in 2004, and has
garnered 11 gold records and 7 platinum records; their 1983 album, Eliminator, remains the group’s most commercially successful record, selling over 10
million units. ZZ Top also ranks 80th in U.S. album sales, with 25 million units.
The band is known for Hill’s and Gibbons’ trademark beards, as well as the
drummer’s lack thereof, despite the surname “Beard”.
10/3 - Golden Nugget - Andrew Dice Clay: Andrew Dice Clay is
an American comedian and actor. He played the lead role in the 1990 film The
Adventures of Ford Fairlane. Clay has been in several movies and has released
a number of stand-up comedy albums. He is currently focused on acting and
putting aside his stand-up.

popular singer, known as the frontman of The Four Seasons beginning in
1960. He is known for his unusually powerful falsetto voice. Valli scored
29 Top 40 hits with The Four Seasons, one Top 40 hit under The Four
Seasons’ alias ‘The Wonder Who?’, and nine Top 40 hits as a solo artist. As
a member of The Four Seasons, Valli’s number-one hits included “Sherry”
(1962), “Big Girls Don’t Cry” (1962), “Walk Like a Man” (1963), “Rag Doll”
(1964) and “December, 1963 (Oh, What a Night)” (1975). Valli’s recording
of the song “Can’t Take My Eyes Off You” reached number two in 1967.
“You’re Ready Now”, a Valli solo recording from 1966, became a surprise
hit in Great Britain as part of the Northern soul scene and hit number
eleven on the British pop charts in December 1970. As a solo artist, Valli
scored number-one hits with the songs “My Eyes Adored You” (1974) and
“Grease” (1978). Valli, Tommy DeVito, Nick Massi and Bob Gaudio – the

Humperdinck is an English pop singer. He is best known for his

in one year.” In North America, he is also known for his 1976-hit
single, “After the Lovin’.” Humperdinck is regarded by music critics

2014, the winner won a cash prize, a talent deal with NBC, and

Regular readers of the “Wiz’s” columns on casino gaming may
come away with the wrong impression that he has a negative
view of the Philippine people. Not true! Here is why: Recently, Mr. and Mrs. “Wiz” participated in a complimentary sea
cruise courtesy of one of our favorite Atlantic City casinos.
The Norwegian Gem ship crew was predominately of Philippine extraction. We found them quite gracious and friendly
and they contributed to a most pleasing adventure.
These nice people always greeted you with a smile and kind
service. So why the beefs about Filipinos in previous “Wiz”
columns? Upon reflection, the fact that most previous engagements with these nice people has been over the phone.
Calls were prompted by poor performing billion-dollar companies in gaming and communications who “outsource”
their communications to low-paid workers in the Philippine
Islands to handle complaints. They use the nice people not
only to “save a buck” but to perform as “flack catchers” who
seemingly are never able to “fix” the problem you are interested in being solved. It seems that the billionaires and “fat
cat” companies such as Comcast do not empower them to
serve. Sometimes it takes multiple calls to get relief if you can
actually reach an American representative.
When you compare and contrast this situation with the fact
that Atlantic City was recently designated as one of the most
un-friendly places in the United States:

then have I got an event for you! Elizabeth Gorman, one of
our long-time readers, who enjoys this column, advises
us about a note-worthy event. The Single Parents Society
Shore Chapter presents a note-worthy weekly Dance Social
each Tuesday at 8PM til 10:30PM at the Social Hall of the
Somers Point Fire House Co. #1 located on Bethel Road in
Somers Point, NJ. Refreshments will be served. Live music
will be provided. The group has been meeting in Somers
Point for over 30 years. A different musical entertainer or
musical group performs each week.
On September 29th, the musical entertainment
will be announced. Begin the month of October with the
sensational music of "The Sensations," on October 6th.
