Debbie Socha, Brunswick Library Children’s Department Supervisor says, “In the first four weeks of summer we had almost twice as many children playing the Game as we did last year!” In 2016 Brunswick City Schools partnered with MCDL for Summer Reading, making libraries THE place for reading all summer long. 2015 was a record-breaking year until 2016 smashed those records. Children’s Game Teen Game 2015 6,031 974 2016 7,279 1,692 Increase 20.69% 73.72% The Summer Reading theme, Make, Create, Discover, Learn, focuses on STEM and STEAM (Science,Technology, Engineering, Arts and Math). STEM events are always well attended, with waiting lists to get in and requests for additional events from parents and educators. “It is important students are exposed to creative learning in the sciences outside of school and MCDL is happy to provide that,” says Socha.
