A LUMNI NEWS
All Saints is honored to call JUDGE MICKEY SHUFFIELD ‘65 an alum! Not only did
Judge Shuffield attend All Saints himself, he and his wife Jenny, sent all three of their
children, PEYTON SHUFFIELD ’98, SISSY SHUFFIELD ‘00 and EMILY SHUFFIELD ‘02 to All
Saints as well.
After graduating from All Saints in the 6th grade (before All Saints added 7th and
8th), Mickey attended Selwyn Preparatory School in Denton, Texas. After completing high
school, he later received a Bachelor of Science Degree in Radio, Television and Film from
the University of Texas at Austin. From there, Mickey attended the University of Dayton in
Ohio where he earned his Juris Doctor. After receiving his degree he practiced law as an
associate then parnter at Mehaffy Weber and then as a partner at Bernsen, Jamail &
Goodson before becoming a district judge in 1995. Judge Shuffield currently presides as
Judge of the 136th District Court here in Texas.
Mickey met his wife Jenny 35 years ago while on a trip in the Bahamas. Mickey was
coaching high school students and escorted them to the Bahamas. While on the trip, he met
his future bride, Jenny, who was working as a dive master. They married and settled in Beaumont, where they raised their three children. Peyton, their eldest son, graduated from
University of Colorado, and is currently living near Denver. He inherited his father’s artistic
ability, as he performs as a percussionist in an African fusion jazz band, Paa Kow By All Means
Band. Sissy graduated from Louisiana State University and lives in nearby Houston. She is a
graphic designer for a commercial real estate firm. Emily graduated from the University of
Georgia, and is working in Houston at the PR Boutique, owned by All Saints alum KAREN
LOMBARDO HENRY ‘63. In addition to loving her job, Emily met her fiance Tug Hanley, from
Montana, and they are busy planning their wedding for March 2014.
When asked to reflect on his All Saints days, Mickey fondly remembers riding his
bike to school and enjoying crisp fall school days on the All Saints campus. His favorite
tradition is the beloved Christmas Pageant.
A WORD OF ADVICE FROM JUDGE MICKEY SHUFFIELD:
Choose a field of study/career on the basis of what will bring you the most happiness.
Generally speaking, the more specialized your area of expertise, the more likely you are to
make a career of it.”
Carey Maloney with his mother,
beloved All Saints supporter, Betty Leaf.
Accomplished author, designer,
and All Saints alum, CAREY MALONEY ‘66
has had an interesting life. After leaving All
Saints and graduating high school from a
prestigious boarding school in Virginia, he
went on to attend Trinity University in San
Antonio, then received his MBA with a focus
on Mandarin Chinese from The American
Graduate School in Arizona, and did some
post masters work at Oxford University in
England. Eventually Carey moved to New
York where he worked at international
auction house, Christie’s, before partnering
with architect Hermes Mallea and
establishing their design firm, M (Group).
After over 30 years in the business, Carey
and Hermes have done design work all over
the world.
As a designer Carey says his
favorite part is learning the backstory of
pieces. His new book entitled, STUFF, tells
all about his design philosophy and
showcases some of his favorite M (Group)
designs (including his own fabulous home).
Carey recently visited Beaumont
to promote his book. A good time was had
by all as Carey’s hometown fan base was
able to enjoy some of his quick wit and
get a look at his latest publication!

“All Saints
laid a fertile
foundation
for exploring
our creativity
and instilling
an intellectual
curiosity,
but the best
part is the
lasting
friendships
with my
classmates.”
-Elizabeth
Waddill
ELIZABETH CONN WADDILL ‘82 attended All Saints
and then went on to Monsignor Kelly Catholic High School
here in Beaumont. She graduated from Texas Christian
University with a BBA in Marketing. Elizabeth and her
husband Russ have two children, THOMAS WADDILL ’11
who is a junior at Kelly High School, and daughter, SARAH
WADDILL ‘15, currently in 7th grade at All Saints.
Elizabeth has many fond memories of her All
Saints days. One of her favorites, as is true for most alumni,
is the Christmas pageant, which was and still is so special to
her. Elizabeth says the pageant was in the chapel back then
and she can still recall her scripture verses and all the
practicing.
Another thing Elizabeth loved about All Saints
was the freedom to explore her creativity. She said, “When
we would do book reports or projects our teachers let us
‘take it to the next level’ and we would put on shows and
skits. I remember my two friends, Caroline and Christina,
and I put on a puppet show ‘Dracula’ from the book we
were reading in Mrs. McGown’s 5th grade class. It was a
book report that turned into the whole school coming to
see it. Lots of shared creativity.” Now as a parent, Elizabeth
says she sees how All Saints continues to “take it to the next
level” with the teachers and students using iPads and
exploring their creativity through educational apps. “It was
fun to see how my daugter’s 6th grade class implemented
their book report on a movie trailer app!”
Elizabeth says All Saints is always raising the bar,
and not just with iPads. “The drama department has taken
off to be such a large part of the life at All Saints. You would
think we were a performing arts school in a big city! The
school is always evolving in a dynamic way. The physical changes
since I was there give the students much needed space. There
was not a middle school or a library building when I was there,
and the new dining facility and 3rd, 4th, and 5th grade building
are beautiful and serve the students well.”
According to Elizabeth the school has grown but
the All Saints spirit is still the same. What she appreciates
most about All Saints then and now is daily chapel. For
Elizabeth, memories of daily morning chapel and sitting in
the pews as a child listening to Father Calcote will forever
be a place of centering and peace. Now she enjoys sitting
in those same pews as a parent for occasional visits and
chapel programs, and is grateful for the blessing of her
children having the same opportunity to start everyday there
as well.
Elizabeth is not only an alum and All Saints parent,
but also a busy career woman and community volunteer.
Elizabeth and her friend/fellow alumus HEATHER CRENSHAW
PETKOVSEK ‘84 began an online gift and t-shirt business called
Thera-Wear in 2005. She also enjoys volunteering with Buckner,
Beaumont Community Players, and the Art Museum of Southeast
Texas. She is a beloved volunteer at both All Saints and Kelly
High School. She says she has developed a passion for conservation through her involvement in the Magnolia Garden Club
and has recently become involved with the board of the National
Park Conservation Association, which serves as the advocacy arm
for our National Parks in Washington D.C. and around the country.
She says, “The National Parks are often called ‘America’s Best Idea’
and are one of the best things about our country and I look
forward to helping promote them as the National Park System
turns 100 in 2016.”

“When you spend nine years going to
school in the same place, a place like
All Saints, it becomes a part of you.
Whether you are aware of it or not,
you are being shaped and influenced
by your surroundings, the things you do
on a daily basis, and those around you.”
-Keely Snyder
N E W S
KEELY ABSHIER SNYDER ‘96 is quite the accomplished All Saints alumnus. From being
a mom to two beautiful boys, to running her own busines, she is a very busy lady. After graduating All Saints and Monsignor Kelly Catholic High School here in Beaumont, Keely went on to
Texas A&M University in College Station, Texas where she graduated with a degree in Interdisciplinary Studies, specializing in Special Education. She has since married husband, Andrew
Snyder and they have two sons, Bishop who is 4 years old and Harrison who is 1 year old. They
currently reside in The Woodlands, Texas.
Keely Snyder Designs is a small design business, creating mostly custom paper
products and a few gift items. Keely says she started it after her first son was born. She began
creating cards to send to family members such as his birthday invitation, and people started
asking her to create things for them. Keely says, “I love taking just a few ideas, or a simple
photograph and creating something from it.” Eventually Keely plans to have an online store and
ultimately dreams of a boutique of her own. For now, in order to see her work and place an order
you can visit her website www.keelysnyderdesigns.com or like her facebook page by going to
facebook.com/KeelySnyderDesigns!
When asked to reflect on her favorite All Saints memories, Keely vividly recalls the
different parts of her daily routine as a Viking. From chapel and outdoor lunches to playing
sports and the annual Christmas pageant, she loved it all. She says, “Just the other day I was
putting a verse from Luke on a Christmas card and not only did I know it by heart, but I could
picture the scene in the gym where we would practice daily for what felt like weeks.”
One of her favorite memories is her 8th grade trip to Vicksburg, Mississippi when her
class was joined by a surprisingly relaxed and candid Father Calcote who even roller-skated with
the kids! Daily chapel was her favorite tradition which has served her well as she was taught to
begin everyday with prayer.
Memories like these are why Keely believes she gained so much from attending All
Saints. She credits the small environment for instilling in her (and all All Saints students) a sense
of community and family. That strong sense of community allowed her to not only establish lifelong friendships with her classmates, but also with her teachers and the staff.
CHARLES BURRUS ‘01 says his favorite All Saints memory is, “undoubtedly
conditioning day (running laps in the field behind the gym on Mondays). Not
because I like to run, but I loved watching my best friend, Jordan Smith’s reaction
when Coach Cole would call him out for walking. Jordan, sorry brother but you
deserved it.” Charles laughed remembering JORDAN SMITH ‘01 strategically
running next to the girls he liked but being too afraid to talk to them because he
was 10 years old.
Charles also vividly remembers, “any and every sporting event played
against St. Anne’s.” He says, “It’s funny how some of your childhood competitors/
sports enemies become some of your best friends later in life.” He stays in touch
with quite a few All Saints alumni, seeing them at various events including friends’
weddings!
The Christmas Pageant is another memory near and dear to Charles.
Although he admitted still being bitter that he wasn’t selected as Joseph, he
Charles and brother Tyrell Burrus ‘99
acknowledged that, “Verses from this elaborate production still run through my
head throughout the holiday season and sometimes entirely randomly. I wasn’t good enough for the harpsichord but I loved the chimes.”
He also sent out a heartfelt apology to Mrs. Graham saying,“I apologize for stomping up the bleachers. I thought it was cool at the time.”
We asked Charles to tell us who his favorite teacher was and he replied, “With so many great teachers it is honestly difficult to pick
a favorite. Mrs. Flanagan is at the top of my list. She took a different approach to fostering creativity. I don’t remember the specific tests we
took, but the feelings of warmth and inspiration hold a permanent place in my memory.” He went on to say that he “could write for days”
on all the things he gained from All Saints that have served him well in life. “All Saints provided a solid fundamental education. I wouldn’t
think at 27 I would still reference Mrs. Radison’s computer classes or Mrs. Pearson’s planet tests, but I do. Furthermore, All Saints is a community of good people. Immersion in an environment of that nature at such an early age is tremendous advantage.”
Charles, a graduate of Monsignor Kelly Catholic High School, went on to graduate from The University of Texas at Austin where he
received his degree in Finance. After graduating from UT, Charles moved to Houston where he worked as an investment banker in the
energy sector. He then spent two years at a private equity firm investing in private energy companies, before moving to New York, NY
where he currently lives working at a hedge fund investing principally in energy stocks.

CAPITAL CAMPAIGN | PHASE 2
Beginning each day in chapel hearing God’s word and
singing his praise provides a rhythm of life and stability for
our students. Likewise, the excellent academics and inspiring
classroom environment provide a strong foundation that
lasts a lifetime. Now it is time to preserve our 50+ year old
buildings so All Saints can continue to provide an exceptional
education experience for future generations. Our Phase 2
renovation effort will address the critical needs of our three
oldest buildings. As a result, our Calcote Library, the hub of
our campus, will be returned to its intended purpose and
PreK 3 year old classes will join the other primary classrooms.
All age groups will benefit from this investment. In addition,
security measures will be enhanced to provide a safe and
secure environment for our beautiful campus.
