Healing Through Horses– Cape Town
DESCRIPTION
With the assistance of volunteers and trained instructors, children with very
little mobility can experience the freedom of their limbs moving while on a
horseback. Volunteers need horsemanship experience, as well as, a love
for children and patience with disabilities. This very specialized project is
highly sought after and only has limited spaces, so book early to avoid
disappointment.
This is a voluntary, non-profit organization which provides free riding
instruction and other activities associated with riding for people with
disabilities.
The volunteer adds value to the disabled child’s life by treating them with
dignity and giving them confidence to ride on the horse. Without a large number of volunteers (local and international) it
would not be possible to offer these horse-riding classes, as some children require 2 adults walking next to them and
supporting them while they are on the horse.
The horses also need care and grooming, and for their stables and surrounding areas to be kept clean.
PLEASE NOTE: Caring for horses is physically strenuous! Volunteers must be ready to work hard! Working hours are
Monday to Friday from 08h00 to 12h30 and 14h00 to 18h00

Babies in the Bush – Johannesburg
DESCRIPTION
This baby safe house was born of a desire to provide holistic care that
would not limit children in such a way that they would suffer in later years
because they didn’t have the opportunity to grow and develop normally.
After visiting several places where babies were strapped into baby seats
or left in a cot all day, it became a burning passion to start a Baba Safe
House as an example here on the premises. This will provide not only a
better alternative to babies but also a practical training center where our
learners can come and learn “hands on” how to look after and take good
care of small children.

Help Transform a Child’s Life – Cape Town
Description
Help transform a child’s life was founded on the belief
that sponsoring school fees alone is not enough to
ensure a child’s success. A more holistic approach is
needed, one that considers social, emotional, cultural
and physical needs.
The success of our parent workshops led to the
development of the Community Workshops Program.
The workshops aim to inform and educate about issues
such as parenting, homework assistance, physical and
dental health, CV writing and budget skills
Our Education Support Program was developed to
address these needs. We are successfully integrating
these children into a more challenging and diverse
school environment, while providing their families with
much needed guidance and a network of support.
Our beneficiaries come from low-income, historically
disadvantaged communities of Hout Bay including
Imizamo Yethu and Hangberg. The majority of people
living in these communities face poverty and hardship
every day, and despite the change in democracy, good
schooling and housing are out of reach for most of them.

The bird sanctuary comprises a mixture of exotic as well African birds (50/50). They
also include previously caged pets and hand reared and imprinted individuals, this
explains why some of our inhabitants (especially the parrots of which we have 60
different species)) are unafraid of human beings and seemingly tame. All new
arrivals at Bird Sanctuary go through a process of rehabilitation before they enter

Penguin Rescue – Cape Town
DESCRIPTION
Cape Town’s wild seas are prone to ships having oil spills, which is
very bad news for endangered sea birds like the African Penguin that
lives and swims along the Cape Coast.
Due to pollution and climate change penguin chicks are becoming
more and more vulnerable, and without intervention they would face
extinction. This project has stepped up to the plate and is doing all it
can to nurture and rescue penguins and other sea birds in distress.
Volunteers get involved with the day-to day care od seabirds:
washing oil off seabirds, feeding them fish and cleaning their
swimming pools. Once the sea birds are healthy and fit enough to
survive, they are released back into the wild.
Volunteers will be taught how to catch, handle, feed, tube and administer medication to a variety of Seabirds, assist in the
Intensive Care Unit as well as clean & scrub bird pens on a daily basis. Volunteers must be prepared to work a 5 day
week including weekends. Volunteers work according to shift schedule arranged by the volunteer coordinator once they
start.

Wildlife Conservation – Port Elizabeth
DESCRIPTION
The experience consists of working with animals in a wildlife environment both
on and off a 25,000 hectare Big 5 game reserve and wildlife animal breeding
center. Activities range from being hands on to observational and expose
participants to key aspects of conservation, ecology and animal management

The volunteers are the link to ensuring a sustainable and positive change to the reserve environment and its conservation
