– our first anniversary – we also look back fondly to the inaugural show in
2011, which was welcomed and visited by 20,000 passionate connoisseurs.
Canada’s Baking and Sweets Show (CBSS) has since raised the bar and set
the foundation for the art of baking and sugarcraft. It was created as a
rostrum for the highest level of baking excellence, a new and creative
forum for pastry chefs, chocolatiers, and confectioners to intermingle and
exchange their best delicacies with a passionate audience.

Self-taught in their grandmother’s kitchen in Hamilton and backed only with her
recipes, Katherine Kallinis and Sophie Kallinis LaMontagne started Georgetown
Cupcake in Washington, D.C., the city’s first cupcake experience. Focused on
following their dream, they created a unique baking recipe that sold 800 cupcakes
on the first day! Authors of The Cupcake Diaries: Recipes and Memories from the

SugarStars is a show of many talents with the four outstanding personalities
who run the Rosedale boutique Petite & Sweet: Creative Director Elle Daftarian;
Event and Table Stylist Caspar Haydar; Cake Decorator Yolanda Gampp; and Shop
Assistant Antonella Grillone. Whether it is a delectable keyboard, an
overflowing pot of pasta, a collection of delicious lipstick, or even a sweet and
edible crime scene, there is nothing beyond this prolific baking team. Driven by

Competition Cake Displays
Designing cakes has become an art form. Judging by the popularity of the
display at the 2011 show, the art is very much appreciated by one and all.
Throngs of appreciative spectators milled around the display, which featured
Wedding and Halloween Cakes (2011 theme), snapping pictures non-stop.
In 2012, Canada’s Baking and Sweets Show has elected to separate
Wedding Cakes and this year’s theme, Christmas Cakes into 2 areas. All cakes
are in competition and will be judged Friday. The cakes will remain on display
throughout the show for the enjoyment of our visitors.

This display is popular with everyone, especially prospective brides. The names
of the creators are listed on a place-card beside each cake.
Several of these designs will be featured in the January 2013 edition of Today’s
Bride magazine.

Cake Design Academy
At the Virgin Ice Cake Design Academy, a team of nine baking masters will
take you through enriching sugarcraft techniques, ensuring you get expert
guidance at every step. Whether you attend the demo sessions or the
two-and-a-half-hour hands-on classes, your experience will be unique.
For all hands-on classes there are tools that are required, a list is provided
on the website under ‘Take A Class’ at the top of the page. You can either
bring your own tools, or buy them on site from our exhibiting vendors.
