precisely for support of the Annual Seminary Collec on of
the Diocese of Venice, that I write you.
This Seminary Collec on ensures that we con nue to have
priests to serve you and your family. It enables the Church's
mission of cul va ng and fostering priestly voca ons, suppor ng the next genera on of diocesan priests in their studies, room and board, health care, transporta on, and other
expenses. Programs to invite more men to consider the priesthood must also be organized and funded.

Prayer of Pope Francis for the Jubilee Year of Mercy Lord Jesus Christ,
you have taught us to be merciful like the heavenly Father, and
have told us that whoever sees you sees Him.
Show us your face and we will be saved.
Your loving gaze freed Zacchaeus and Ma hew from being
enslaved by money; the adulteress and Magdalene from seeking happiness only in created things; made Peter weep a er
his betrayal, and assured Paradise to the repentant thief.
Let us hear, as if addressed to each one of us, the words that
you spoke to the Samaritan woman: “If you knew the gi of
God!”
You are the visible face of the invisible Father,
of the God who manifests his power above all by forgiveness
and mercy: let the Church be your visible face in the world, its
Lord risen and glorified.
You willed that your ministers would also be clothed in weakness
in order that they may feel compassion for those in ignorance
and error: let everyone who approaches them feel sought
a er, loved, and forgiven by God.
Send your Spirit and consecrate every one of us with its
anoin ng,
so that the Jubilee of Mercy may be a year of grace from the
Lord,
and your Church, with renewed enthusiasm, may bring good
news to the poor, proclaim liberty to cap ves and the oppressed,
and restore sight to the blind.
We ask this of you, Lord Jesus,
through the intercession of Mary, Mother of Mercy; you who
live and reign with the Father and the Holy Spirit for ever and
ever.

Feast of the Bap sm of the Lord
Fi ngly, this Jubilee Year of Mercy is also the Lec onary’s
Year of Luke, for Luke’s Gospel highlights God’s mercy in
finding the lost, healing the sick, restoring the broken, comfor ng the sorrowful, forgiving the sinner through Jesus’
ministry. But before doing, Luke’s Jesus is always praying.
As prac cal moderns programmed to measure worth by
produc vity, we ins nc vely appreciate the Jubilee’s call to
embrace the prac cal challenges of our bap sm. But today
Luke focuses not on Jesus being bap zed, but on Jesus praying a er bap sm. So must we pray to become the disciples
we are called to be, that the Spirit empower us to do what
disciples are called to do. Imita ng Jesus’ openness to the
Spirit will enable us to cooperate with the grace that transforms us into “beloved sons [and daughters] . . . in whom
the Father is well pleased,” living out, in this Jubilee Year of
Mercy, the extraordinary poten al of our bap sm.
