Days of abstinence: All Fridays in Lent
All who have reached their 14th year of age are
bound to abstain totally from meat. The American
Bishops recommend that abstinence from meat be
observed by all Catholics as a sign of unity with
each other during Lent. Many still observe
abstinence on all Fridays of the year. This act of
Penance is not obligatory as it is during Lent. If a
person cannot observe this discipline then another
personal act of penance should be performed in
Lent.
Cuaresma. Si una persona no puede observar esta
disciplina, debe de hacer otro acto personal de
penitencia durante la Cuaresma.

Shepherd Award from Archbishop Aymond. The Good
Shepherd Award recognizes both the leadership and service that a distinguished member of the Church exercises for the good of the Church.
Mrs. Rodi will receive this recognition at the annual Notre Dame Seminary Chancellor’s Dinner on
Monday, February 29th. This dinner is an opportunity to
visit the historic seminary, meet our seminarians, and
honor special friends of the seminary like Mrs.
Rodi. For those who would like to attend the dinner,
table sponsorships are available. I also invite you to
place a congratulatory message to your fellow parishioner in the commemorative Chancellor’s Dinner program. For further information regarding the Chancellor's Dinner, please contact the Development Office at

Jubilee Year of Mercy
Rave reviews greeted Jesus’ first hometown
homily proclaiming a year of God’s mercy, but the
mood turned violent when he went on to declare
that God’s mercy embraces outsiders; it rejects
distinctions between citizen and foreigner,
acceptable and unworthy, even sinner and saint. Far
from being anyone’s personal possession, God’s
kingdom is open to everyone, God’s love
unconditional, God’s mercy boundless. By this
Jubilee Year of Mercy, Pope Francis repeats Jesus’
challenge in today’s Gospel to broaden our horizons until our vision matches Jesus’ vision of every
sinner as a potential saint, and each suffering
stranger as our neighbor. Jesus, says Pope Francis,
continually went beyond the law, keeping company
with public sinners and even sharing meals with
them to demonstrate that God’s mercy is “the
beating heart of the Gospel” (Misericordiae Vultus,
12). To be truly Jesus’ disciples, such unconditional
love and boundless mercy must also be at the center
of all we say and do.
