Friends will come and go as we enter into different seasons of our lives. Maintaining healthy and holy friendships can be a lot of work, but with the example of the spiritual friendships of modern day saints like Blessed John Paul II, Blessed Mother Teresa of Calcutta, and Saint Padre Pio, we can discern how we may be called to experience the gift of our friendships in the midst of the constant changes in our lives. Location is at Fox & Hound Restaurant, 1200 S. Clearview Parkway, Elmwood Village Center, New Orleans, LA 70123. Gathering/drinks is at 6:30pm and the speaker begins at 7:00pm. GUILD NEWS The SCR Guild will hold their meeting and Access Baby Shower on Tuesday, April 8 at 9:00am in the Parish Center. Please bring an unwrapped baby gift. Large size diapers are especially needed. We hope you will join us. TODAY’S READINGS First Reading — Thus says the Lord GOD: I will open your graves, have you rise from them, and settle you on your land. Then you shall know I am the LORD, O my people! (Ezekiel 37:12-14). Psalm — With the Lord there is mercy and fullness of redemption (Psalm 130). Second Reading — If Christ is in you, the spirit is alive even if the body is dead because of sin (Romans 8:8-11). Gospel — Lazarus, dead for four days, came out of his tomb when Jesus called his name (John 11:1-45 [3-7, 17, 20-27, 33b-45]). God grants us many ways to pray. Whether prayers offered in silent meditation and reflection, or prayers said before meals or during Mass, each of us is given the opportunity to pursue a life of meaningful prayer commitment. In many ways, we can choose to pray regularly, believing it is God who strengthens us, protects us, and guards our hearts. In the Our Father, we acknowledge God’s holiness and our desire that his will be done on heaven and on earth. As Jesus directed his disciples, we then pray for our own personal needs—“our daily bread”—and we ask for forgiveness and health in relationships—“forgive us our debts, as we forgive our debtors.” Apart from the Lord’s watch care, we would find ourselves vulnerable in a real sense, so Christ noted our dependence, and invited us to pray for protection: “and do not subject us to the final test, but deliver us from the evil one.” God rules and reigns from on high, but he is intimately concerned about our lives in the day to day. Knowing our need, we pray for him to watch over us and save us from our foe. WOMEN’S RETREAT CLOSE TO HOME Fr. Richard Buhler will be giving a retreat at the Archdiocese of New Orleans Retreat Center, formerly the Cenacle, April 25-27. To register, call Susan at 504-267-9604. Living Stewardship Now For yourself: Make a will. Plan your own funeral. For someone you know: Visit a dying or grieving person. Listen to them, pray with them, be a simple comforting presence. For your parish community: Start or volunteer for a Stephen’s (bereavement) ministry. Copyright © 2010, World Library Publications. All rights reserved. .
