PRESCHOOL FOR 3s, 4s & 5s
This 30-minute independent storytime experience
is for 3- to 5-year-olds only. No younger or older
siblings allowed.

CHILDREN’S WEEKLY STORYTIMES
Sept. 8 – Nov. 21
LAPSIT STORYTIME
An introduction to storytime for infants to
23-month-olds, this 20-minute interactive program
will include stories, songs and fingerplays. Attendees
will have time after the program to share board
books and other featured titles with their little one.
An adult caregiver must attend with each child. The
only exception is in the case of twins.
Preschoolers and their caregivers can enjoy this
fun program of stories and crafts. The activities will
be geared toward 3- and 4-year-olds, but 5-yearolds are welcome to attend. Younger siblings may
accompany the older child as coloring sheets will be
available for them. At least one adult caregiver must
attend with the child. This program is limited to 20
children making crafts.
FAMILY STORYTIME
TALES FOR 2s & 3s
This 20-minute interactive program of stories, songs
and fingerplays is for 2- to 3-year-olds and their
accompanying adult. In addition, strategies will be
presented to enhance early learning opportunities
at home. No younger or older siblings allowed.
This 30-minute program of stories, songs and more
fun activities is for children of all ages. In addition,
strategies will be presented to enhance early learning
opportunities at home. At least one parent or adult
caregiver is required to accompany their children.

STORYTIME AT THE MUSEUM
Join Naperville Pubic Library staff the first and third
Wednesday of the month for a special storytime at
DuPage Children’s Museum. This 30-minute program
of stories, songs and more fun is for children of all
ages. Museum admission purchase needed to attend
storytime.
The whole family is invited to a 30-minute program of
books, songs and fun for children with special needs.
All abilities are welcome with an adult caregiver.
Inquire at any children’s service desk for more
information. The program will be take place the first
Saturday of each month. For children 3 years old

discussion group. The child and parent/adult will
read the selected book together and then attend
the club’s meeting to discuss it with others while
enjoying a cookie or two. Each book will be chosen
at the preceding meeting and listed on the library’s
website, www.naperville-lib.org. The library will have
multiple copies of each title available for checkout.

Language Stars, a Chicago-based provider of early
foreign language education, will return with fun
and high-energy programs. Teachers will provide
a 30-minute interactive storytime, featuring books,
songs and activities conducted entirely in their
native language. Recommended for children ages 1
to 6 years old, but all ages are welcome.

road and visiting the library. The museum’s early
learning specialist and community access coordinator

Come Play With Us At The Library!
WINGS UP
Meet and greet Jack, Peachy, Remy and other pet
birds rescued and rehabilitated by Kristin Ludwig, a
Pawsitive Therapy Troupe member and founder of
the No Unwanted Birds (NUBS) squad. Ludwig and
NUBS squad members will share true stories of the
brave animals that have once suffered illness and
injury. This presentation will be a shortened version
of Wings Up™, a resiliency building curriculum for
children. Participants will enjoy an artistic activity as
well as guided interaction with the birds. All ages are
welcome with a caregiver.

Choosing the right preschool can be a daunting
experience, and the library’s fair may help parents
during this selection process. Parents can meet with
representatives from area preschools and receive
information to help them choose a school that’s
right for them. This drop-in program is intended
for parents and caregivers. Children attending this
program must be supervised by an adult.

*IDEA LAB: WEATHER & TECHNOLOGY
Children will learn about weather while using
technology found in the library’s Idea Lab. Participants
will create an object using the 3-D printer and have fun
being a meteorologist in front of the green screen. For
children in 3rd through 5th grades. *Program requires
advanced registration and is limited to 16 children.
HALLOWEEN ON THE RIVERWALK
CHILDREN’S PROGRAMS
Goblins, pumpkins and puppets, oh my! Children
of all ages and their caregivers can dress in
costume and enjoy Halloween fun at the Riverwalk
Amphitheater. Get into the spirit with stories, songs
and a puppet show about this favorite fall holiday. In
the event of severe weather, the program will take place
in the Community Room of Nichols Library.

November marks the second annual month-long
celebration of dinosaurs at the library. Kid voyageurs
can go on a dinosaur scavenger hunt in the
children’s department, check out a dinosaur book
from the display as well as enjoy dinosaur-themed

‘DIARY OF A WIMPY KID:’ BOOK RELEASE
PARTY
Celebrate the book “Old School,” the newest release
in the “Diary of a Wimpy Kid” series. Kids can test
their trivia knowledge, enjoy fun games and get
wimpy! For children in 3rd through 5th grades and
limited to 20 participants.

WINTER FAMILY READ ALOUD
Reading is So Sweet
Dec. 1– Jan. 31
Families can enjoy reading and other activities together
during the Winter Family Read Aloud throughout
December and January. Beginning Dec. 1, each family
can register to receive one log per month to record
their family’s reading sessions and shared fun activities
such as the library’s ever-popular Family Gingerbread
House Display. Each log can be returned for prizes and
a chance to win Chicago Wolves hockey tickets.

Don’t wait on the hold list for newly released movies
–watch popular new movies on the library’s big
screen while munching on popcorn and snacks with
fellow movie buffs. Check the Teen Space Facebook

announcement of the selected movie title as it gets
closer to the date.

PUMPKIN DECORATING CONTEST
Carve, decorate or paint a pumpkin and then send a
photo of it to [email protected] for a chance
to win a prize. Entries, which must be received by
midnight Oct. 31, will be shared on the library’s
Instagram accounts. Include the pumpkin designer’s
name, grade and phone number along with the
photo.
Lovers of YA literature can sign up for the library’s
online Goodreads book club. Each month, a new
book will be selected, and readers can discuss it
online through the participant’s Goodreads account.
Request to join the group “Yay for YA!: An Online
Book Club” on Goodreads or email teen librarian
Alison Colman at [email protected]. A new
book is posted on the first day of every month, and
participants will have the entire month to read it and
discuss.

Teens can enjoy snacks while watching movies that
have been newly released on DVD, ones that might
have been missed in theaters or movies they just
can’t get enough of.

THE EASTLAND DISASTER
This summer marks the 100th anniversary of the
tragic Eastland Disaster. On July 24, 1915 in Chicago,
the SS Eastland, a passenger ship used for tours,
rolled over while tied to a dock in the Chicago River
killing 844 passengers and crew. Dave Nelson,
Eastland historian and grandson of a Chicago welder
that assisted in the Eastland rescue efforts, will
share a documentary he produced about this tragic
event. In this documentary, attendees will hear
special stories of survivors and see unbelievable
artifacts that have been found.

will walk to the settlement to practice their photo
