Tech Corner H. Quincy Brown, Ed.D. May 4 —Spring Program May 5 —Father Daughter Ball May 12 —Relay for Life May 16 — Teacher Luncheon The school increased its available Internet bandwidth this week. Why? You may ask. Bandwidth determines the flow of traffic in and out of the school via the Internet. I like to think of bandwidth as the diameter of a water pipe: the larger the pipe the more water can flow through it at any given time. The greater the bandwidth the more information can flow. As the teachers continue to integrate technology they will put greater demands on our single Internet connection. We seem to have maximized our present capacity as indicated by slow loading of instructional videos. Cox Cable, our provider, offers speeds from 6Mbs (Megabytes per second) to 50Mbs. Our increase puts us at 15Mbs. We may need to make further adjustments once all equipment is in place and operational. 2012 March 16—Kindergarten Circus March 16—11:30 Dismissal NO AFTERCARE March 17—Bayou Hills Run March 23 —Kids’ Night Out March 26 –29—Parent Conferences March 16, EVENTS DRAGON DISPATCH Save the Date - April 13, 2012 Dragon Jubilee live and silent auction Paul's on the Bay 670 Scenic Hwy Pensacola, FL Tickets - $50 per person • Invitations will be mailed soon If you have a service, product, gift item or a wonderful beach home in Maui that you would like to donate as an auction item, please contact Vicky Wonders in the office. Established in 1972, CLA’s Preschool Program is well known for its highly effective blending of Montessori methods with age-appropriate best instructional practices. Class sizes are limited to 16 and a recent parent survey suggests one of the top reasons parents choose CLA Preschool over other programs is its variety of academically engaging enrichment classes. “You have the freedom to do a lot of interesting things at CLA,” Adams said. “I love the people I work with and the families are great. They’re very down to earth and they’re willing to help a lot at the school.” A native of Vermont who has lived in Pensacola for the past 16 years, Adams studied at Pensacola Junior College and earned her Montessori Early Childhood Teacher Certificate. She is a veteran of 15 years in the teaching profession and has been on the faculty at CLA for ten years. I believe in treating the students just like my own,” Adams said. “I believe in treating everybody fairly.” One CLA parent was particularly impressed, penning this ringing endorsement of Adams’ ability as a preschool teacher: “She has a gift of ensuring that the children behave and act respectfully, while still creating an atmosphere of fun and excitement. We love her quiet authority and emphasis on character development. Mrs. Adams has relieved all of our concerns and made us feel very welcome. She is also very approachable and responsive whenever we have questions. We really couldn't have designed a better teacher ourselves!" Raised in Pensacola, Janson has been a teacher for 26 years, including the last 23 at CLA. She holds an AA Degree from Pensacola Junior College and a BS in Home Economics Education from Florida State University. She also earned a Montessori Early Childhood Teacher Certificate. “We have a Montessori-based pre-school and it’s just exciting to see the children absorb and learn all they need to in order to move on and excel in kindergarten,” Janson said. “The students are exposed to a lot of different things here and our families are very supportive.” Janson spoke glowingly of her faculty peers, and her philosophy as a teacher echoes that of so many teachers at CLA. “I believe in creating an environment in which the children are comfortable and they are excited about learning,” she said. CLA has a variety of enrollment schedules available to suit the needs of families. Students may attend full or half days on Monday, Wednesday and Friday or five days per week. For more information on enrollment, contact CLA Admissions Director Robin Bates at 432-1768.
