2014 Media Kit Press Release FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE: January 1, 2014 FOR MORE INFORMATION, CONTACT: Molly Ingram Vice President 205.759.7106 [email protected] The DCH Foundation’s purpose is to “make things better” for the DCH Health System through its fundraising efforts in the West Alabama Community. The DCH Foundation receives support through a variety of sources, from individuals to corporations. The Foundation is grateful for donations from (but not limited to) community events, grants, capital gifts, and estate planning. Since its inception, approximately 150 community leaders have served on the Board of Directors of the DCH Foundation. Through their leadership, the DCH Foundation has become the organization of choice to support those served by the DCH Health System. History The DCH Foundation was organized in September 1973. In 1990, The DCH Foundation was appointed to formally support the work of the health system by building relationships in the community that inspire the commitment and generosity of its citizens. Mission Through its employees, physicians and volunteers, DCH Health System provides high quality, compassionate community-based health services in a financially responsible manner. Vision DCH Health System will be the best health system in the nation for patients to receive care, employees and volunteers to work and physicians to practice medicine. In 1990, The DCH Foundation was created to formally support the work of the health system by building relationships in the community that inspire the commitment and generosity of its citizens. Since that time, the Foundation has been responsible for putting many millions of philanthropic dollars to work on behalf of West Alabama’s healthcare through the health system. A few of the primary accomplishments include: • Each year, our Play Pink events support women with breast cancer screenings and additional assistance through the DCH Breast Cancer Fund. Since the inception of our pink events, over $1.4 million has been raised for its purpose. • The M*A*S*H Fund for DCH Employees raised $400,000 to support DCH employees who suffered losses in the April 27, 2011 tornadoes. • The “Help and Hope” Capital Campaign raised $10 Million to support the DCH Cancer Center. • Every year, The Lucy Jordan Ball raises between $40,000 and $50,000 to support annually identified projects throughout the system. • BBQ and Blue Jeans, one of the Foundation’s most well-attended and well-loved events, supports The Help and Hope Patient Assistance Fund to help cancer patients who struggle financially get emergency funds as well as condition-related supplies while they are under treatment. This fund currently provides over $100,000 per year to the Cancer Center for these needs. As the system faces ever-increasing financial challenges from reimbursement, regulatory, and policy changes, the Foundation’s work becomes more critical. Every $100 donated to the system provides revenue for improvements that, if generated through clinical services, would require the system to provide $4,000 worth of services. This makes philanthropy a critical factor in the system’s ability to realize its vision: to be the best health system in the nation for patients to receive care, employees and volunteers to work and physicians to practice medicine.
