WGW NOV 2012 main spa
Last July
Initially formed as a two-piece, Last July played a number of gigs across England, most
notably to a packed audience at the Resolution Hotel during the Whitby Goth Weekend in
October 2009. Their debut E.P. ‘Nothing Else But You’, gained favourable reviews and
airplay and in 2011, Last July's sound and stage presence increased tenfold with the
addition of Nevla on guitar. The band went from strength to strength with myriad
successful gigs and the release of their single ‘Glamorous Parasite’. They began 2012
with the launch of their debut album and a string of live appearances across the
country, including The Spring Whitby Goth Weekend, and we’re very pleased to welcome
them back once again for Halloween.
Dutch Order
Dutch Order consists of four people with a love for music who decided to form a band - the one we now know and
love - Dutch Order. Through most of 2009 the band were practicing and working on their songs, waiting to unleash six
months of hard work onto an unsuspecting audience. They played their first gig in
December 2009, and that's where it all began... 2010 saw the band venturing into
London with their first ever London gig, and then on to other areas of the UK, to
much acclaim. They've been featured in Dominion Magazine and were Band Of
The Month for December 2010 on Germany's Static Magazine Website. They have
a self-titled EP available and an album in the pipeline. So, come and check them
out and see what they're really all about, because you can't beat seeing a Dutch
Order live performance.
Inertia
Inertia was formed in 1992 by Reza Udhin. After an extensive period with
other industrial acts, Reza decided to concentrate on a solo project which
brought together elements of Industrial and Techno to form something quite
different to anything in the scene at that time, and following several name
changes, Inertia was born. Inertia were immediately signed to Germany’s
Celtic Circle Productions within a few weeks of forming, and released their
debut ‘Infiltrator’, in June 1995. This CD was a re-recording of the band’s
first demo tape and was an immediate success. Since then, the band have
continued to grow stronger for the best part of two decades with numerous releases and several line up changes with
the current line up featuring Reza Udhin (Killing Joke), Alexys B (Electro Falco), Kneill X (ex Killing Joke/Killer B Movie)
and Andrew Lowlife (Swarf). Their most recent album ‘Deworlded’ brings together the band's unique mix of electronic
sequences, harsh rhythms, crunching guitars and dark song structures to present the band's best work to date.
Fangs On Fur
Fangs on Fur are a female fronted goth-punk-deathrock band from Los Angeles and put on shows full of energy and
fun. They cite their influences as The Clash, The Slits, and Gun Club and from the
recorded material so far released (one EP and and one of the most eagerly
awaited debut albums of recent years) they're underselling themselves. Imagine
those artists mixed with a small pinch of Bow Wow Wow and a large chunk of
eighties UK goth and you're heading in the right direction, as F-Girl says “Either
a band sounds too much like the old school, or not enough. We just write the
music that comes out. Sometimes it sounds like THIS and sometimes it sounds
like THAT. People can put us in any category they want. That's not our concern.
You need to know your identity before someone chooses it for you”.
Mesh

Mesh was formed in 1991 by Mark Hockings (vocals, guitars, keyboards,
programming, lyrics) and Richard Silverthorn (keyboards, programming)
after the two met at a gig where Silverthorn’s band was playing. They were
soon joined by Neil Taylor (keyboards, programming), a former band-mate of
Silverthorn, and continued as this line up until 2006 when Taylor announced
that he was leaving the band to pursue other interests. Hockings and
Silverthorn unequivocally stated their desire to continue making music as
Mesh, and the band recruited keyboardist Geoff Pinckney to act as a
replacement for Taylor during their live performances, also taking this
opportunity to incorporate a live drummer - Sean Suleman. 2009 saw the
band working hard in their studio in Bristol writing and recording a ‘Grittier
and more Rockier’ album which would become ‘A Perfect Solution’ which
was released later that year. The album spawned 2 singles, and they
followed this with the release of ‘An Alternative Solution’ which contained all
remix tracks of ‘A Perfect Solution’ by bands like Zeromancer & Assemblage 23 among others. In August 2011 the band
announced via twitter that Geoff Pinckney “will no longer be playing live with Mesh”, and in September of the same
year the band announced that work had commenced on their next album and they’re excited by the results so far.
event - BAND biographies
Angels Of Liberty
Formed in 2011 the band spent years on painstaking research. The task was undertaken by getting
monstrously drunk out on the UK scene following some of the best Goth Rock bands during the nineties.
After years of snakebite fuelled antics, worn out winklepickers and working as glorified skivvies in
recording studios they set about the task of creating something themselves. So more than a little
fashionably late, showing signs erotic crystallization inertia and with moth eaten frock coats, here they are!
The Last Cry
The Last Cry hail from the UK’s south coast. They are: Andrew Birch (Vocals), Chris Carey (Bass Guitar) & Tim
Green (Guitar). The group originally took it cues from bands like The Cure, The Cult and Depeche Mode, and over
time have created a dark, atmospheric and dramatic wall of sound which
exhibits coherency, intensity and emotional depth. Their music can take many
guises, from a slow ballad to a hard edged industrial track. The Last Cry do it
all with a belief that, “as long as their music remains dark, the choice of what
they do, and where they go with their music remains open”. The groups debut
album 'Walking to the Edge' has won critical acclaim within the industry and
with fans alike, and they are currently working on their second album 'Living
in Grey'. The band pride themselves on their live performances which offer intensity, passion and honesty.
All Living Fear
All Living Fear are a familiar name to WGW as the band opened the first
festival in 1994 and have played 3 times since, the last time being 5 years
ago. The band, best known for songs like Crimson, Stranger To None and
Jessica started in 1992 and have released 6 albums and played over 300
shows in the UK. All Living Fear haven’t played live since 2010 (apart from the
odd low key acoustic show) and have just been working in the studio - recent
releases include 2 acclaimed EPs ‘Broken Dream’ and ‘Breaking the Fire’. Now All Living Fear will play a special 20th
anniversary one off show at the heart of Goth, The Whitby Goth Weekend with a new line up and with live drums for the first
time. All Living Fear are now Matthew North (Guitar and Vocals), Steve Williams (Bass Guitar), Mike Soundy (Drums).
Blitzkid
Blitzkid is a horror punk band that began in Bluefield, WV in the winter of 1997, with
guitarist/vocalist/songwriter TB Monstrosity and bassist/vocalist/songwriter Argyle
Goolsby. In the 15 years that they have been a band, they have toured consistently all
over the US and overseas, released multiple albums and EPs, a Live DVD and participated
on the soundtrack for a film. In 1998, the trio began songwriting, rehearsing, and started
playing local gigs. In May of 1999, they recorded the 7-song ‘Revisited EP’. This particular
release showcased a more hookladen ‘horror rock’ approach that the band had already
hinted at. Now, after 15 years Blitzkid are calling it a day at the end of 2012, and this will
be one of the last chances you get to catch them live. Don't miss them!
Alien Sex Fiend
Having emerged from London's notorious ‘Batcave’ club in the winter of 1982, the legendary Alien Sex Fiend - the
uncompromising and progressive musical organism - is about to celebrate its 30th year anniversary. Led by veteran
visionaries of space, time and sound, the beautifully bizarre duo of Nik Fiend and Mrs. Fiend, aided and abetted by
an ever-shifting squad of henchmen, the band has consistently forged new, unorthodox musical terrain. Persisting
on this mission in 2010 Alien Sex Fiend introduced yet another amalgamation of style, beat and discord on their
13th studio album, "Death Trip", declared by Mick Mercer to be "Pure classic Sex Fiend". Alien Sex Fiend's
infamous live shows are must-be-seen events. A
ghoulish spider-webbed stage set, comprising mutilated
mannequins, assorted severed body parts, skulls, bones and
garbage cans, acts as the backdrop. With Mrs. Fiend's
analogue armada of twisted beats and mutated sounds
driving the spontaneous, insane theatrical antics of
ringleader, Nik Fiend... expect the unexpected! The
gruesome twosome will be joined by long-term ally, the
mysterious Gonzo, on wig-city guitar. Fifth on the all-time
list of artists with the most independent single chart entries,
Alien Sex Fiend often blast out songs spanning their entire
career. From early hits like ‘Ignore The Machine’, ‘R.I.P. (Blue
Crumb Truck)’, and the classic ‘Now I'm Feeling Zombiefied’,
through to flashes to the future, the hair raising Alien Sex
Fiend Live Experience is a total audio visual assault.

Weekend?
A. The Whitby Goth Weekend (WGW)
was founded in 1994 by Jo Hampshire
of Top Mum Promotions and has
grown to become one of the world’s
premier Goth events. Taking place in
Whitby, North Yorkshire, UK, the WGW’s
official line is to provide musical
entertainment with bands and DJs,
although the culture of the WGW has
far outgrown that simple agenda.
Whitby Goth Weekend now has
something for everyone with an
interest in goth and all things
alternative. It’s a celebration of the
non-conformity, diversity and freedom
of expression the scene embodies.
Thousands of Goths and alternatives
of all ages and from all walks of life
head to the town for an amazing
long weekend. Whether they spend
the nights dancing or drinking, the
days shopping in the various
'Bizarre Bazaar' locations, or just
wandering around town in their
finery, it's a weekend they never
forget!
Q. Where does it take place?
A. The main event takes place in the Spa
Pavilion which is situated on West Cliff

Q. What should I do with my ticket?
A. Tickets should be exchanged for
wristbands at the WGW info stall in The
Spa Pavilion preferably between the
hours of 10am-5pm on Friday or
Saturday. This helps us by easing
congestion at the door, but please
don’t worry if you are arriving late as
tickets may be also exchanged on the
door. Your wristband entitles you to
two nights of live bands and DJs
between the hours of 8pm and 2am at
the Spa Pavilion.
Q. What time do the bands start and
finish?
A. Generally the bands start at 8.30pm
and finish around 1.00am, though we
recommend you ask at the info stall
during the weekend for up to date
information especially if you wish to
see a specific band.
Q. When will my ticket(s) arrive?
A. Tickets ordered through the WGW
website are usually posted in one
batch approximately 28 days before
the event, though other outlets may
ship them earlier.
Q. Is there a dress code?
A. Not as such, no. However, we
expect a level of taste and
decency. Festival goers are pretty
non-judgmental so anything from
jeans and a t-shirt to full Victoriana is
fine… just wear whatever you feel
comfortable in!
Q. Is the Spa Pavilion open at times
other than for the evening events?
A. The Spa Pavilion is also open during
the day for the Bizarre Bazaar
Alternative Market and for making
enquiries at the WGW info stall. The
Spa also has a bar and a kitchen open
during the day for the sale of alcohol,
soft drinks, tea, coffee and food.
Q. Can I get a refund?
A. Refunds are not available but in
some circumstances we may be able
to transfer your ticket to the next
event.
Q. Where can I get info during the
festival?
A. You can get more info from the
info stall which is in the foyer of
The Spa Pavilion. You can’t miss it
really, there’s usually a huge banner
and a mass of people hanging about
there. The info stall will be available
all weekend, should you need any
help.
Q. This will be my first time
attending the WGW, any tips?
A. We run a ‘WGW Virgins’ meeting on
the Friday morning of each festival at
11am in the Spa Pavilion. This is
hosted by Loki who has attended every
WGW so he has lots of tips and helpful
info. Please wait in the foyer and Loki
will make himself known when the
meeting is about to start.

Simon B-Movie
Once the world famous International Rescue puppet and gothic-punk Count Von Sexbat, WGW resident Simon B-Movie changed his DJ name just too
late for it to make any difference. Now wanted by the US Military he exists on the periphery of your subculture and wonders why his records don’t fit in
the CD players. Best known for an eclectic mix of goth, punk, industrial, and some amazingly random stuff that you’d really think he shouldn’t have the
temerity to be playing at WGW. Every time you hear him play out is probably the last gig he will play. “The manifesto of the B-Movie Sound System,” he
explains, “was entertainment not education. Whitby is a place designed to have fun, the sort of fun you can’t have elsewhere. It’s like DJing in Vegas,
except the toilets work and there are fewer fruit machines. I am looking forwards to remembering what all the light-up buttons do on the mixer.” He
will be supported by a mystery guest; you should all come and dance like little drunken gothic bees!
DJ Cymek
Hailing from Manchester, DJ Cymek is an avid enthusiast of goth rock, darkwave, shoegaze, dreampop and ethereal ambient, as well as a solid dose of
EBM, industrial and dark electro. With slots under his belt at such Manchester nights as Unpretention, Ara and Beta Complex (including an infamous battle
set with the legendary AD3K from Analoguetrash), he is very honoured and excited to be bringing his own unique blend of darkwave with a touch of
electro goodness to the Spa for the Friday and Saturday, as well as enjoying yet another fun filled WGW with the rest of the black clad, party mad hordes.

Back to the fray on the UK scene after some years away (working the alternative clubs of Iberia and beyond), playing the best in old-school Goth,
Post-Punk & Positive Punk, Darkwave and a sprinkle of related goodness. Past residencies and slots in places as diverse and wide-spread as: Hades,
Beer Keller, Góticas Siniestro, Youthanasia, Pink Toothbrush, Rock Club Marbella etc.
